Neil Evans' Tips For Moruya (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Heavy 8 and rail True:

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1010m):

The maiden sprinters get us underway on a track that is unlikely to get out of heavy range. Promising Starcraft three-year-old 1. Airliner proved he's ready to take off for a second prep with an eye-catching provincial trial win in heavy ground. Was close-up in two handy runs here last prep, and is advantaged under the set weight conditions.

Dangers: Canberra three-year-old 6. Vella Fox is a serious threat off his debut effort when he charged home to beat all bar the winner on a Heavy 10, and there was nearly four lengths back to the third place-getter. Gap to the rest headed by home tracker 2. Defcon One who resumes with blinkers off again; while two-year-old 8. Balleistic Kids can run into the placings on debut.

How to play it: Airliner to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (2000m):

Over a longer trip now. Provincial three-year-old and likely short-priced favourite 1. El Lago drops significantly in class fifth-up from a metro BM 72 and is the clear one to beat. Hit the line well in a deeper affair at Newcastle the start before, and he's the best-credentialled runner.

Dangers: Keep safe locally-trained 4. Last Quest who finished best to win a similar race here two starts ago, although would prefer the track to improve into soft range.

How to play it: El Lago to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (920m):

Same grade back to the short journey, and like the value around improving filly 5. Cosmic Serenade third-up. Has weakened after showing speed in two runs this prep for a leading stable, but the little drop in trip and a more senior and stronger rider taking over, can provide the keys.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by capable home track mare 2. Blue Glass who returns for her first run since late October behind a nice forward trial. Include home filly 6. Awesome Audrey who has more than enough ability second-up, but a query from the inside barrier in this going for one who likes to settle well back. Honest six-year-old 7. Canzonet can run into a place at odds first-up.

How to play it: Cosmic Serenade to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 CLASS 1 HCP (1010m):

Plenty of chances in this sprint. Progressive Canberra mare 6. Stunning Sunrise can put two wins together deep into her second prep. Backs up in nine days after finishing best to win her maiden when ridden closer, and she's advantaged at the weights in heavy conditions.

Dangers: Big watch on provincial five-year-old 1. Our Fox who resumes off a strong open class trial, and blinkers come off. Similar to her stablemate in the previous race, emerging filly 4. Brave Maso finds a suitable first-up race, but may also have to steer away from the inside draw from well off the pace. Included in exotics 5. Super Riff who resumes behind a fair trial, and gets a significant 4kg weight allowance.

How to play it: Stunning Sunrise to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1650m):

Improving and tough four-year-old 5. Hombre Grande is ready to break through deep into this prep, and a month between runs. Was only collared in the last few strides here after working to the front from a wide gate, and drops 2.5kg for this. Prefered in this to an earlier race.

Dangers: Winkers replacing blinkers over further can do the trick for 7. Devilish Dude who has worked home from the back nicely in his last two. Include honest mare 3. Another Star in trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Hombre Grande to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

Most open and biggest field of the day, with a stack of chances. Keen on Kembla-based 7. Bonus Tempus, the only two-year-old in the race, at her second start. Backs up in 11 days after charging home late in a handy juvenile race at Taree despite drifting in betting, and bred to handle these conditions.

Dangers: Big market watch on progressive wet track mare 9. Lady Redwood who resumes without officially trialling. Beat all bar the winner in three straight runs last prep up to provincial BM 58 level over much further, and under only 55.5kg will be getting home hard. Another Kembla filly, 4. Gridare debuts in winkers behind two trials; while four-year-old 10. Bracewell stuck on okay in tougher company first-up at the provincials. Include stablemate to the top selection 15. Angry Liam who is hard fit in wider exotics.

How to play it: Bonus Tempus each way and box exacta 4,7,9
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1300m):

Plenty of chances in the closer as well headed by another Kembla visitor in four-year-old 2. Viking Power who resumes under a big weight. Was very good in deeper races last prep, surging home to win a CL2 in heavy ground, and close up in a stronger CL3 before being spelled. Thrives on rain-affected ground and is drawn to get right to the outside.

Dangers: Local five-year-old 7. Tornac has by-passsed the official trials for his first run in 15 weeks. Blinkers are back on, and thrown in at the weights after the junior rider's 3kg claim. Include provincial mare 6. Deepfield Magic third-up; six-year-old 11. St Anton fourth-up with a claim; and 1. Gorush Lightning off a one month freshen-up; in the exotics.

How to play it: Viking Power to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

BEST BETS:
R5 5. HOMBRE GRANDE
R7 2. VIKING POWER

BEST VALUE:
R3 5. COSMIC SERENADE
