Neil Evans' Tips For Moruya Cup Day (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail True:

Race 1 - 1:35PM DANIEL "ICKSTA" ICK MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

13. Show Rhythm is one of two fillies from the Matthew Dale stable accepted for the opener, and rates clear on top. Ran home well to beat all bar the winner on debut when well specked at double figure odds, suited over a furlong further, and drawn to settle closer in the run. 3. Oh What A Night can improve sharply second-up despite drawing wide. Both 6. Evokes who did his best work late on debut; and lightly raced 11. Uytaahkoo who is trained on the track; go through trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: Show Rhythm to win

Race 2 - 2:10PM ADELAIDE HOTEL MORUYA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1425 METRES)

1. King Taurus is building a nice record in his first full prep. Was right behind the winner in two consecutive efforts, the latter as a hot favourite, before careered away to easily win from the front here 15 days ago. Will take a tonne of beating if he gets his own way. Metro raider 4. Puntin led them a merry dance on debut at Nowra, although has to do it from a wide gate this time. 6. Blue Bayou charged home second-up to miss by a whisker behind a smart one fourth-up at Canberra, and a change with the blinkers is significant. Gap to the rest headed by 7. Reward With A Rose third-up with blinkers going on.

How to play it: King Taurus to win

Race 3 - 2:45PM TEAM THOROTEK BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

One of the wider and toughest races on the program shapes best for city raider 1. Russian Assassin dropping back from provincial level third-up. Led for a long way when resuming in a country CL2, then wasn't far away in a blanket finish in deeper company at Hawkesbury. A big weight rise has been off-set with the booking of a 3kg claiming jockey. 2. Selhurst Park resumes back in grade from a low draw. 6. Santorini Sun is back in distance, and slowly working towards an overdue third career win. 7. Beau Rock has been running home well all prep, but drawn off the track here with a junior 4kg claiming rider aboard. 5. Princess Halo drawn better fourth-up and is on the next line.

How to play it: Russian Assassin to win

Race 4 - 3:20PM MORUYA GOLF CLUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

9. Fudge is an underrated mare trained on the track. Won three starts back at the Sapphire Coast before two handy on-speed efforts in slightly deeper races. Tackles an even better class here at huge odds, but gets an ideal on-speed draw; and this is a CL3 lacking in depth. 3. Stallone rises sharply in class shooting for a third straight win this prep. Will jump a short-priced fancy, but under the odds. 4. Vermicella will relish a distance rise having charged home from the back to win first-up before again hitting the line from well off speed 19 days ago. 8. Capicella is chasing back-to-back wins at the track fourth-up. Came back from provincial company to track the speed and charge away beating a handy BM 58 field, although has to get over from a wide draw.

How to play it: Fudge each way

Race 5 - 3:55PM PRETTY VIEW RETREAT SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

2. Century Song is an emerging provincial filly by a Group 1-winning sprinter beautifully placed to break through, resuming with gear changes for only his second start. Fitted for this with a comfortable trial win, and drawn to get the right run. Big watch on 5. Insain, by Zousain, and on debut for the Bjorn Baker yard behind a runaway trial win, but is drawn off the track. Gap to the rest headed by 1. Bengal who drops back from city class fourth-up, with a key gear change. 10. Torquin, by Toronado, and another debutant from the Baker yard; and 13. Zoutastic improving second-up; both go in wider exotic plays.

How to play it: Century Song to win

Race 6 - 4:30PM MORUYA MITRE 10 MORUYA SHOWCASE TOWN PLATE (1200 METRES)

10. Stupendo is a tough five-year-old still on the up, and well placed to make it two straight wins fifth-up. Liked the way he swept home to easily beat a CL2 field at Bathurst, and while this is tougher, he has plenty of scope and gets a 5.5kg weight drop. 4. Fine Vintage was no match for a smart winner here a fortnight back, and while he scored at Albury earlier in the prep, is a risk over 1200m in this company. 11. Cani Cancan was very poor in the weaker Narooma Cup failing to run home after a tough win at BM 66 level. Not convinced the inside draw in this field will do her any favours. 3. Kattegat is over the odds fourth-up with some weight relief after leading for a long way in the Narooma Cup third-up. 9. Lang Park can run into the minor money.

How to play it: Stupendo to win

Race 7 - 5:05PM NORTH RYDE RSL MORUYA SHOWCASE CUP (1425 METRES)

12. Smarter Than You is a tough Canberra mare who hasn't missed a place in four runs this prep, and suited at the weights here despite tackling the deeper feature Cup. Surged home to beat weaker opposition two starts ago before beaten narrowly into a place in a strong BM 80 Federal at home. The 10 day back-up is a further sign of stable confidence, and she's well over the odds. 11. Toes In The Water is tracking to peak third-up on a sharp weight drop. 6. Charlemagne is very honest, and also a recent Federal winner when charging over the top late. With any sort of speed on, he can be in the finish again.1. La Sante is another Canberra visitor going great guns, won his last two Federal races, both times hammering home from well off speed, although likely to be forced even further back here from a wide draw. 3. Prophet's Pride comes through that same Federal form-line, having beaten all bar the winner in his last two; while both 5. Bon Frankie deep into the prep; and 2. Clever Art can run home into the minor money.

How to play it: Smarter Than You to win

Race 8 - 5:40PM AMH AUTO GROUP COUNTRY MAGIC CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Twin Telepathy is a progressive four-year-old well placed to claim the closer and make it three wins on the bounce. Bolted in a Super Maiden first-up before again blitzing his rivals as an even hotter favourite in a CL1 three weeks ago. More depth here, but drawn to get the right run over a furlong further. 5. Keikoku flashed home late to win first-up at Goulburn, although this is tougher. 1. Vella Fox will relish this lineup after twice running home gamely without luck in Highway company at Randwick. Gap to the rest headed by 10. Tokyo Ice second-up and down in weight.

How to play it: Twin Telepathy to win

BEST BETS:
R2 1. KING TAURUS
R5 2. CENTURY SONG

BEST VALUE:
R8 2. TWIN TELEPATHY
