Neil Evans' Tips For Lismore (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Good 4 and rail out 2.5m from 950m to 300m; 1.5m to the WP & True the remainder:

Race 1 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (2100m):

Tough on-speeder 4. Bendolirra is ready to peak fourth-up, and get punters off to a flying start. Has fought on okay finishing behind only the winner in his last two, and a significant weight drop and back 100m in distance can combine for a breakthrough win.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by 2. Majestic Teako who debuts behind two trials, and gets first use of the inside ground. Respect too for 1. Boulanger who was three times in the placings before running home well 12 days ago in a stronger maiden. Both 5. Icon Of Style deep into her prep; and ex-Victorian 6. Belle Tycoon resuming for the new stable with key gear changes; can figure in the minor money.

How to play it: Bendolirra to win

Race 2 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1210m):

A testing affair, but very keen to back Dissident three-year-old 3. Iobject who has been mixing his form all prep, but finds a weaker race now fifth-up. Draws to get a nice trail just off the speed, and is well weighted in this moderate company after the 2kg claim. The one to beat.

Dangers: Home tracker 4. Stoinka similarly drops in class deep into the prep, and gets a soft run behind the speed. Be surprised if anything else wins, but keep safe progressive 2. Dubai Nights second-up.

How to play it: Iobject to win

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1110m):

Another tricky maiden at set weights. Resuming 4. I Am Good At This has the ability to strike first-up off a long break, and two improving trials. Draws the outside gate, but this is moderate in depth.

Dangers: Big watch on Brave Smash two-year-old 11. Bravezel who debuts as a gelding for a strong metro yard, and won his latest trial over the border in fair time. Keep safe too another two-year-old first starter, Toronado-sired 12. Watchguard who has been taken along slowly in three improving metro trials in Sydney. Gap to the rest.

How to pay it: I Am Good At This to win

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1110m):

Same set-up here, and it augurs nicely for Spieth three-year-old 5. Wolf Point to hit the ground running on debut for the Annabel Neasham yard. Prepared via two strong and improving trials over the border, and has since been gelded, with key gear additions. Well capable of producing a superior final 400m sectional getting to the outside.

Dangers: Watch the betting on lightly raced 2. Bowdarcie resuming; while 4. Lion King deep into the prep; and two-year-old 11. Chase The Sun second-up from the fence draw; can figure in the minor money.

How to play it: Wolf Point to win

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1526m):

Always difficult to assess middle distance maidens around here and naturally there are a stack of chances, but at the big value tough and honest mare 9. Enterprise Fuse emerges as a good bet. Was in and around the money over similar trips across three slightly deeper races before collared after leading into the straight at Grafton against better opposition over a furlong further. Back to this journey is ideal, again rolling forward from a low draw, and jockey change is significant.

Dangers: From the same stable, improving 2. Enterprise Success is a threat with a much-needed 2kg claim, although has to get across from a wide barrier. Expect 5. Primary Finish to be in the battle fourth-up from the inside draw over more ground after finishing hard to miss by a long head over the border. Included in wider exotics, improving filly 12. Sistine Chapel fourth-up with winkers back on; and 13. Super Sweet fifth-up.

How to play it: Enterprise Fuse each way

Race 6 FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1210m):

It doesn't get much easier here, despite a smaller sprint field, although no better value than improving four-year-old 6. Allay who can peak second-up at big odds. Liked the way she worked home from well off the speed in a much deeper BM 58 at Muswellbrook, and she swept home second-up last prep to land her maiden under a similar weight.

Dangers: Resuming three-year-old 9. Miss Boom Boom is the clear market threat. Was all around the money in her first prep, capping it with a breakthrough win as a hot favourite at Ballina, and she looked even stronger winning the second of two progressive trials over the border 11 days ago. Watch the market on Sunshine Coast mare 1. Petite Missile who crosses the border three weeks after a sound closing effort in tougher grade; while another Qld-based filly 8. Miss Wallflower drops sharply back from a metro BM 68 fourth-up. Both improving mare 3. Chickerartie second-up; and 7. Lady Falvelon fourth-up; go in trifecta and first four bets.

How to play it: Allay each way

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1410m):

No shortage of chances in this one too. Again siding with some great early value in five-year-old mare 16. Princess Zeddy at double figure odds who gets a jockey change fourth-up. Ran home okay from the back behind a dominant winner in a better race two starts ago before again working home nicely from near last just 11 days back. Right at her peak now in what should be a truly run affair, and the more track firms up the better served she is.

Dangers: Naturally from the inside draw with a 2kg allowance and off an encouraging first-up run, 4. Burdekin will be hard to hold out, although threatens to jump under the odds in a big field. Much further out in the market, keep safe 9. Ultimate Man fourth-up; while 8. Taikun Tommy with a fair record at the track; and underrated mare 11. Door Into Summer; head the rest at big odds.

How to play it: Princess Zeddy each way

Race 8 CLASS 1 HCP (1110m):

Confident lightly raced Gold Coast filly 8. Smile Upon A Star can pounce fresh off an 18-week break. Swept home to comfortably win a handy Grafton maiden at her second start, and was tuned up for this with a strong trial over the border. Capable of churning out good short-course sectionals.

Dangers: Keep very safe resuming 5. Quick 'N' Dandy from the inside barrier behind a quiet trial. Both 4. Bean Groovy dropping significantly in class fourth-up; and 6. Still Ready resuming off a seven week spell with blinkers removed; can run into the minor money.

How to play it: Smile Upon A Star to win

Race 9 CLASS 1 HCP (1526m):

Capping a marathon meeting over the middle distance, and very keen on improving four-year-old 3. Showman on a nine day back-up and back a fraction in distance. Hit the line nicely last time in better grade than this, and only needs a half decent tag into the race from the 600m to finish over the top of these.

Dangers: Plenty of respect for consistent and improving filly 4. Dragon Song who peaks third-up from the inside draw, with winkers being added. Gap to the rest headed by reliable 1. El Asteroid; while 5. Enterprise Phoenix on a quick turnaround fourth-up is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Showman to win

BEST BETS:
R2 3. IOBJECT
R8 8. SMILE UPON A STAR

BEST VALUE:
R9 3. SHOWMAN
