Neil Evans' Tips For Goulburn (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Heavy 8 and Rail and rail out 3m from 900m to 400m and True the remainder

Race 1 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

Lightly raced four-year-old 1. Razment finished best here second-up on a bog track, and plenty of room for progression with blinkers added. Superior wet tracker.

Dangers: Improving mare and likely leader 3. All That Sass can peak third-up.

How to play it: Razment to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 CLASS 2 HCP (1000m):

Provincial mare 2. Never Second didn't have much luck or room first-up, but still found the line, and bred to relish wet ground.

Dangers: Talented mare 3. Princess Of Meydan was sent straight back for a strong trial win after dropping out at Gosford six weeks back. Careered away to win her maiden by more than six lengths here in late May. Big gap to the rest headed by 4. Nostre Re and 5. Skaifee who can fill the minor end of the prizes.

How to play it: Never second to win; quinella 2 and 3; and first four 2,3/2,3/4,5/4,5. Odds and Evens: Split a special

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1000m):

On the balance of good second-up progression with blinkers added, and the fact this is a weak sprint, four-year-old mare 4. Single Tonite can break through.

Dangers: Three-year-old filly 10. Mayrose debuts off a narrow trial win in soft ground.

How to play it: Single Tonite to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1500m):

Speed should be okay for this journey. Very keen on improving mare 4. Contract Signed who stuck on well here after doing plenty of work over the mile, and with a softer run can strike fourth-up.

Dangers: Front-running five-year-old 2. Good Deed is also on the cusp fourth-up in suitable ground.

How to play it: Contract Signed to win; Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

Like Dundeel filly 13. Left Reeling resuming for only her second start off a nice strong trial. Flashed home from well back to be beaten narrowly on debut at Canberra in autumn, and is headed for much bigger prizes than this lot.

Dangers: Capitalist three-year-old 12. State Capital was good first-up at the provincials behind a smart galloper. Finds the easiest race so far of her brief career, but a query in heavy ground. Expecting improvement from 2. Beholder back in country grade at his second start; while four-year-old 3. Hoost is also over the odds resuming off two trials.

How to play it: Left Reeling to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 (1200m):

A few chances in this, headed by lightly raced seven-year-old 6. Timperley who surged home to win a handy Cl1 at Nowra before again making up a tonne of ground here in a similar race. Will again be tucked away back in the field, and thrives on wet tracks.

Dangers: Capable 1. El Prados won here in stronger grade two runs back, and this is the weakest race he's contested for a while, but still under the odds carting 60.5kg. Provincial seven-year-old 9. Jonjo's Comet surged late to claim a thinner BM 58 last start, and has far more to offer than the market suggests; while nine-year-old 3. Denim Street returns home after finishing well first-up in heavy ground.

How to play it: Timperley to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1400m):

South Coast mare 6. Boom And Zoom is a rock hard performer around this grade. Found the line well from a wide draw third-up, and with a much more economical run here, can put them away on her preferred surface.

Dangers: Improving mare 7. Foxy Xenia can peak third-up over a bit more ground, but doesn't want it too heavy; while under-rated six-year-old 1. Howlowcanyougo is best of the rest with a crucial 4kg claim.

How to play it: Boom And Zoom each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1600m):

Consistent mare 5. Lady Kirkham has been in the placings in four of her last five runs, and can finally add a third win at her 21st start. Typical Camelot girl who loves rain-affected ground, and this is a drop in quality.

Dangers: Tough mare 3. High Tribute also comes back in class, although drawn off the track; while keeping safe 8. Dom Tycoon from a low draw.

How to play it: Lady Kirkham to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

BEST BETS:
R4 4. CONTRACT SIGNED
R5 13. LEFT REELING

BEST VALUE:
R6 6. TIMPERLEY
