Neil Evans' Tips For Goulburn (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 6 and rail out 5m:

Race 1 - 12:00PM HOMEBASE REAL ESTATE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

3. Bearings is a lightly raced filly by Tarzino who can return for a second proper prep with a bang in what is already a weakened maiden. Given two soft trials up to 1050m, and while she's yet to be tested in rain-affected ground, is bred to thrive. 2. Mission Grant with a clear edge in fitness fourth-up is likely to jump favourite, and also bred to handle soft conditions, being by Street Boss. Watch the betting on 6. Rocky Thinks So, a sparingly raced five-year-old having his first outing since late last spring, and also bred to get through the going. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Bearings to win

Race 2 - 12:35PM GOULPRO BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (2132 METRES)

7. Flying Argento is well placed to return to the winner's list dropping in class deep into his prep, and back on much preferred rain-affected going. Came off a heavy track BM 58 win at the provincials to tackle the Group 1 Derby as a rank outsider before running home okay in the Orange Cup run at BM 90 level. Both wins from 11 career starts so far have come in heavy going, so with any sort of decent run with cover just off the speed, presents as the clear one to beat. Keep safe 3. De Louviere who has placed in his last couple, the most recent running home hard in a CL1 at Scone. 1. The Right Rein is a tough and consistent local in and around the money, and is primed now for this longer trip. Twice a soft track winner, although asked to carry a hefty 63kg here. 6. Stay Tuned is an each way chance peaking fourth-up over a longer trip.

How to play it: Flying Argento to win

Race 3 - 1:10PM THE COUNTRY OUTFITTERS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

5. November Air, a progressive metro-based filly by Pierata, scored a tough breakthrough win leading all the way at Canberra 26 days ago. Given that was only her second run since early last spring, she's got plenty of scope, and from this draw can dictate again. 3. Deni Gal is a tough and fit mare gradually working towards another win, and drawn to get to the outside here, the extra furlong is a plus. 2. Adventure Seeker is trained on the track and shoots for a third straight win, although getting right up in the weights now. 7. The Mona Lisa deep into her prep, and at bigger odds 1. Ferrari Girl improving second-up; can both value into trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: November Air to win

Race 4 - 1:50PM GOULBURN AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

4. Cammi, an honest South Coast mare, can finally break through at her 13th start in what is a weak maiden at set weights. Mixed her form earlier in the year across deeper lineups before holding her ground when resuming off an eight week break at Nowra. Has a liking for soft ground, and can roll forward here staying off the fence. 7. Extremely Exciting represents handy each-way value rising 100m in distance fourth-up. 1. Bonnyville gets back on preferred soft ground third-up. 2. Evokes is capable of running into the minor money at his fourth start.

How to play it: Cammi to win

Race 5 - 2:25PM RADIO GOULBURN BM58 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

2. The Predictor is a genuine and consistent sprinter who likes to drift back and attack the line. Hasn't been out of the placings in his last four, including an impressive and fast-finishing BM 58 win at Wagga. Despite carrying a big weight, only needs to get through this going to run over them late. 6. Downtown's Abbey is a local mare who hasn't for a while, but draws to get a soft run inside, although she wouldn't want the surface to get any worse than Soft 6. 1. Dubai Centre is over the odds despite lumping a big weight coming back from much deeper races, and four of his five career wins have come on wet tracks. 4. Airliner can improve back in grade & in preferred conditions; while 7. Geostorm hasn't been far away in his last couple on rain-affected ground.

How to play it: The Predictor to win

Race 6 - 3:05PM DIVALLS EARTHMOVING F&M CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Everlasting Stars, an ex Qld-based mare, can open up with a bang for the new home track Danny Williams stable. Hasn't started since missing a place in moderate Qld country BM 55 grade last spring, but had previously tackled much better city company. Winkers come off for the new campaign, has sound form on wet tracks, and this is a very moderate lineup. 1. Explosive Torpido also looks primed, resuming in a suitable sprint behind two trials. Already a soft tracker winner at the provincials, she normally fires on the fresh side, and drawn to stay well away from the inside might prove a big advantage late on the program. Stablemate 2. Skiesthelimit is a big market watch first-up since spring off two trials. Home track filly 4. Isagura coming off a second-maiden win in Canberra is the other clear cut chance, with 5. Tenner a debut winner at this track last spring; and 7. Maybe Maureen trained on the course and deep into her prep; both capable of adding value into wider exotic bets.

How to play it: Everlasting Stars to win

Race 7 - 3:40PM COMPLETE PLUMBING SOLUTIONS CG&E CLASS 1 (1000 METRES)

3. Chemtrail, a promising three-year-old by Cosmic Force with tactical speed, can make it two straight wins to start his career for the same home stable as the previous on top selection. Tracked the speed before a smart debut win at Nowra as a well backed favourite, and he's bred to plough through this sort of going. Gets in 1kg under the limit weight after the little known and junior rider takes 4kg off. 6. Orthies is a big threat third-up, dropping back from a smarter provincial CL1 where she ran home well just behind the placegetters. 2. Majestuoso Phoenix shapes over the odds second-up coming back from a deeper provincial race. 5. Power Smash, a first-up winner at this track in a moderate maiden field, is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Chemtrail to win

Race 8 - 4:20PM PORTABLE HORSE STABLES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Quein Step looks very well placed to claim the closer after only missing by a neck here behind Orthies who is naturally a huge chance in the previous race. Did work early that day to track the speed, and with greater fitness and race experience, she's bred to fire in these conditions being by Sidestep. Rival metro filly 2. Honey Perfume is a danger returning off a seven week break and nice trial win. 6. Missie Lee ran home hard here into a place on debut, and berd to thrive on wet tracks. Gap to the rest headed by 10. Neeson, a local two-year-old unlikely to back up after debuting at Canberra on Saturday; and at bigger odds 11. Excess Capital second-up.

How to play it: Quein Step to win

BEST BETS:
R2 7. FLYING ARGENTO
R8 3. QUEIN STEP

BEST VALUE:
R5 2. THE PREDICTOR
