Neil Evans' Tips For Dubbo (Sunday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Soft 5 and rail out 3m from 900m to 400m and True the remainder:

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1110m):

Very tricky opener on an improving track, but Adelaide filly 7. Adelsun will be hard to hold out on debut. Liked her recent trial, and is fitted with blinkers.

Dangers: Another first starter, Shooting To Win three-year-old 1. Cheap Shot is the logical threat from the inside draw, and his open class trial was solid. Keep safe improving mare 11. Dollar Pursuit second-up with a 2kg claim and back on firmer ground; while 8. Alison Princess resuming off a long break; and 9. Anaro with a key gear change; head up the rest.

How to play it: Adelsun each way and quinella 1 and 7
Odds and Evens: Odds.

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1110m):

Weak race after the early favourite came out, and that augurs well for provincial three-year-old 3. Jac's Legacy who can finally break through fifth-up in his second prep. Missed narrowly last time at this track when driving home late; and had no luck last start when caught in the worst part of the track at Inverell. Given a month between runs to cater for the drop back in distance.

Dangers: Tough local 7. Yorker stuck on okay after being ridden in front third-up, and the little drop in trip is a plus. Expecting a big first-up run from 1. Down To Earth returning from a 14-month break; while 12. Zoisite can run into the minor end of the money.

How to play it: Jac's Legacy to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 3 CLASS 1 HCP (1110m):

Hard not to see speedy two-year-old 5. Gallant Star taking care of this lot. Ran them off their legs in the Silver Goblet here on debut, and draws the inside gate in a weak race for this class.

Dangers: Blinkers replace winkers for 2. Brief Statement who is consistently in the money and draws to get a nice trail; while first-up maiden winner 6. Eightsides is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Gallant Star to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (2200m):

This shapes well for underrated four-year-old 2. Corvo who drops in grade and draws nicely with a 3kg claim. Won a similar-graded race here two starts back finishing hard from midfield.

Dangers: Keep safe well weighted 12. Dunlee who will get a nice run just off the speed. Tough mare 5. Bring The Joy is hard fit, and over the odds in this grade; while 1. Careering Away; 3. Souchong and 6. Yak all go in trifectas and first four plays.

How to play it: Corvo to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 5 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1310m):

Any one of four runners could claim this with the right run. Honest home track four-year-old 3. No Debt is the best value deep into the prep. Hadn't finished further back than third in four runs in and around this grade until failing to carry the weight here last start. Is better when ridden quieter, and the drying track is a plus.

Dangers: Another regular placegetter, 7. Justfour is right in the race from a soft draw. Should park a few lengths off the speed with cover and be strong late. Consistent four-year-old 5. Foreign Brother can go back-to-back at the track after defying the chasers in a similar race 16 days ago, although up 2kg in weight. Canberra four-year-old 6. Dubai Centre fourth-up; and 1. Bondadosa, who has charged home to win her last two; are both well in the mix.

How to play it: No Debt each way
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1610m):

Capable provincial four-year-old 2. Scorched Land is ideally placed here down a little in grade to finally snap a long run out of the winner's circle. Charged home in a similar race at Tamworth before again very strong from the back in the deeper Gunnedah Cup, then again closed hard on a heavy track to beat all but the winner in the Wingham Cup. Back up in weight, but couldn't be any fitter, and will love the much wider and longer straight here.

Dangers: Local five-year-old 1. Ferus is an obvious threat after finishing best to win a CL3 here 23 days ago, and huge weight has been off-set by a 4kg claiming apprentice; while 6. Martian Queen is very honest over this distance, and drawn to get good cover. Big gap to the rest.

How to play it: Scorched Land to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 MAIDEN HCP (1410m):

Testing and open maiden. Understated filly 14. Sizzling Love is yet to place from six career runs, but she can peak big here third-up. Liked the way she worked home late from well back second-up carrying 2kg more, and the extra furlong and bigger track are right up her alley.

Dangers: Keep safe improving 4. Wasserman after four runs back; while 6. Irene Of Athens from a good draw with a 2kg claim; and 7. Antarctic Pride third-up; both go in the exotics.

How to play it: Sizzling Love each way
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 8 CLASS 2 HCP (1410m):

Open and competitive battle to finish. Like rapidly improving three-year-old 9. Possibly So third-up, and shooting for two straight wins at the track. Exploded home to easily claim his maiden 16 days ago, and carries 2.5kg less for this tougher test.

Dangers: The inside barrier should provide progressive three-year-old 6. Senseiche with a sweet run just off the speed, and he was strong through the line winning a BM 58 last start. Include 2. Norman; 5. Vascotto; and 10. The Pres; in trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Possibly So to win
Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R2 3. JAC'S LEGACY
R6 2. SCORCHED LAND

BEST VALUE:
R8 9. POSSIBLY SO
