Track is rated a Good 4 with the rail in the True position.
Race 1 (2:05pm) RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1375m) |
---|
We start Diggers Cup day with a tricky maiden on a track that may be downgraded with some rain forecast. The betting will have a big say, but like the placement of Counterattack debutante 2. Come On Harry ($4.80 on TAB) behind a solid trial. Drawn to get a good run and sire was dominant on rain-affected ground. The horse was scratched from Queanbeyan on Sunday to run here.
Dangers: Provincial four-year-old 4. Renard ($19) can figure resuming behind two quiet trials, while 6. Bracewell ($2.50 favourite) drops in grade and is well weighted on the limit 55kg. Include 5. Al Murree ($4.80) in exotics with winkers being added.
How to play it: Come On Harry to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 2 (2:40pm) ROYCES BIG WALK DONATE NOW MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) |

Like the way 11. Boongarra Girl ($2.70) has been finding the line this preparation and she can settle closer here from the inside draw fourth-up.
Dangers: Improving five-year-old 4. Suomenlinna ($7.50) finished off okay in a deeper maiden last time, and has been placed in three of his last five. Provincial filly 13. Orreza ($2.40 into $2.25 fav) is well placed third-up off a good effort on Canberra Mile day. Include 2. Jianzhang ($15) in exotic plays.
How to play it: Boongarra Girl to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 (3:15pm) RAILWAY HOTEL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (950m) |
---|
Back to the short course and there's a stack of speed on. Like consistent Mudgee filly 6. Kora Magic ($4) is coming through a clear superior formline. Hasn't missed a place this prep and last start at Scone was run down by a couple who are way better than this grade. The second horse from that race then bolted in at Dubbo on Friday.
Dangers: Speedy seven-year-old 1. Byzantium ($4) has been beating the handicapper all prep, winning four straight. Rises further to a hefty 62kg and won't want it too wet - is flying. 5. Add On ($3.10 into $2.70 fav) has speed and comes off consecutive wins and 3. Expect A Hero ($4.40) was rolled in a picnic trophy race last start, but also has plenty of speed and the tighter track suits.
How to play it: Kora Magic to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 4 (3:50pm) COWRA FREIGHT BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1700m) |
---|
Consistent provincial mare 1. Chooseday Nights ($2.70 fav) is banging the door down having run three consecutive second placings since resuming two months back. Can again park right behind the speed from a handy draw. Superior soft tracker and is the one to beat over a little more ground.
Dangers: Improving filly 9. Mystic Flame ($9) has only missed a place once in five runs since mid December and gets a nice weight drop, although a genuine query if the track gets well into soft range. Honest 5. Madison Point ($4.80) has been gradually working towards another win. Placed twice this prep before working home late at Dubbo and the extra 100m is a plus. Expect sharp improvement third-up from 3. Port Douglas ($12) who got too far back last start at Nowra, while last start BM 50 winner 7. Judicator ($7.50) is best of the rest.
How to play it: Chooseday Nights to win
Odds & Evens: Odds a special
Race 5 (4:30pm) THE COWRA PHOENIX NEWSPAPER CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1375m) |
---|
Good depth here for this grade. Progressive metro filly 5. Rivabrook ($4.40) has won two of her last three, including a tough fighting effort to hold off some handy ones on Canberra Mile day. Ready for this grade now and bred to handle the wet.
Dangers: Progressive three-year-old 7. Loose Love ($9.50) will drift back from the wide barrier but can peak third-up, especially if the track gets well into soft or even heavy range. Emerging three-year-old 6. Soloist ($5) carted 60kg to a first-up win, although this is a much deeper race and he's drawn wide. Another one on the rise, 8. Almahero ($2.60 fav) was well backed from a double-figure price before getting home late in a deeper field second-up.
How to play it: Rivabrook to win and trifecta 5,7/5,6,7,8/5,6,7,8/5,6,7,8
Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 6 (5:10pm) COWRA SERVICES CLUB DIGGERS CUP BM74 HANDICAP (1375m) |
---|
Wide-open feature race. This shapes up nicely for underrated seven-year-old 8. Obelos ($6) fourth-up. Hit the line nicely in a Canberra Federal two runs back before again working home late in a provincial BM 64. Primed to peak here although won't want it much worse than a Soft 6.
Dangers: Tough six-year-old 1. Zouologist ($3.40) is on the quick back-up after sticking on okay in a handy BM 68, although he is rising to 61kg. Talented five-year-old 2. Blitzar ($2.90 fav) will find this easier than the SERA Country Championships heat, but his record on rain-affected ground isn't flash, while 7. Son Of Spartacus ($19) steps up from winning the weaker Tumut Cup and is drawn well. 10. Divine Future ($5) is a rough chance at odds.
How to play it: Obelos each-way
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 7 (5:50pm) CLANCEY SMITH CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100m) |
---|
Keen on smart three-year-old 2. Calmer Karma ($2.60 fav) who returns off a nice trial having led all the way on debut last spring.
Dangers: Included in exotics 4. Hot As Hell ($9.50) third-up and 5. Ronny Rock Art ($4.80) fourth-up, while perennial backmarker mare 10. Miss Parmigiana ($6) resumes and will be rattling home late.
How to play it: Calmer Karma to win
Odds and Evens: Evens
