Neil Evans' Tips For Coffs Harbour (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 3m from 1000m to 350m into a cut/away & True the remainder:

Race 1 - 1:50PM CKM TEST AND TAG MAIDEN PLATE (1405 METRES)

7. Cool Machine is a lightly raced mare trained on the track. Was only beaten a neck in a better maiden third-up here 25 days ago, a more experienced jockey goes on, and she's ready to break through staying at the distance. 1. Kid Billy is sparingly raced, and ran home late second-up behind a progressive winner. 6. Rock The Machine has been up for a while and yet to run a place, but draws to get a cheap run, and blinkers come off. 4. The Riddler is hard fit with gear changes, and has been hitting the line late from well off the speed all prep.

Race 2 - 2:25PM TREVOR HARDY SPRINT BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP (1205 METRES)

Progressive mare 3. Moskeeta has never raced better. Came off a freshen-up with a dominant all-the-way win here in a similar BM 82 field despite a tactical change when ridden in front. Naturally up in weight and trip, but she has an outstanding record over 1200m, and a winning strike rate of 30 percent. 2. Light Of Boom returned off a long break with an eye-catching run in deeper Saturday company at Eagle Farm nine days ago, and drew to find a trail. 4. Olivia's Spirit is over the odds third-up from the inside draw. 8. Starzam is first-up for 10 weeks down in weight with a gear change. 8. Extreme Merger rises in grade but drops sharply in weight; while 1. Full Press is a market watch at big odds, resuming off a dominant trial win.

Race 3 - 3:05PM JV'S BRICK & BLOCKLAYING MAIDEN PLATE (1205 METRES)

11. Next Pay Run is very well placed getting on to a drier track second-up in what is a weak affair. Ex-Victorian who was never comfortable in the heavy going resuming for a new stable off a 28 week spell, and will also relish the extra trip. 8. Monte Tiana resumes off a soft trial with gear changes for a local stable, but shapes under the odds from a tricky draw. Big watch 3. Northern Boogie fourth-up with winkers going on. Gap to the rest.

Race 4 - 3:40PM CELEBRATING SAM BREWSKI MAIDEN HANDICAP (805 METRES)

Despite three mixed runs this prep, improving filly 11. Queen Of A Hand can find her best dropping back from deeper races. Held her ground in a stronger provincial maiden two starts back before disappointing as favourite at Scone when drawn in the slowest part of the track. Parks behind the speed, and she's nice and fresh six weeks between runs for the drop back to this short course. 1. Power Spark resumes off a long break and smart trial win, but has to get over from a wide draw. So too provincial-based 4. Rebellious Red on debut behind two forward trials. 2. Stavritzel, resuming with gear changes; and debutant 12. What A Rush can both add value into trifecta and first fours.

Race 5 - 4:15PM PIER HOTEL COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1305 METRES)

9. Crown'm is an underrated six-year-old who can claim just his second win from 41 starts resuming off a handy trial win. Was never far away in deeper and longer races last prep, and this shapes as an ideal starting point. Has placed a further 13 times, often without luck. Improving 6. A Pound Of Salt was well supported when hitting the line first-up. 8. Tara Koda resumes for a second prep without publicly trialling, but she's in good hands and loves dry ground. 3. Knot Another Kiss is a lightly raced home tracker reloading off a fast-finishing maiden win, with winkers added. 2. Key Legend is over the odds fifth-up. 11. I Am Convincing is the best of the rest.

Race 6 - 4:50PM STEWART MEREDITH MEMORIAL BM58 HANDICAP (1605 METRES)

4. Shannon's Legacy is a lightly raced Gold Coast mare who can make it two straight this side of the border in only her third start. Dominated when resuming in heavy going, and has more scope than the rest. 3. King Cornelius bounced to the front here and gave nothing else a chance last start, but would prefer it softer. 1. Casino Bear is honest and comes back significantly in class, but facing his fifth run in 29 days with a junior 4kg claimer aboard. 7. Hypothermia has won two of her last four up to this level. 5. Spills can improve third-up.

Race 7 - 5:30PM SVEN'S BIG SUMMER BLOWOUT BM58 HANDICAP (1005 METRES)

2. Cardsharp is a locally-trained and sparingly raced five-year-old, resuming off a quiet trial. Held his own against stronger opposition last prep, comes to hand early in the campaign, and relishes firm tracks. 5. Toyager is over the odds two weeks after a tough maiden win. 1. Cool Shalaa is good value fourth-up with gear changes from a handy trailing draw. 11. Miss Mazerati who has won two of her last three in weaker fields; and 12. Poitawho is hard fit; both go in exotic plays.
