Neil Evans' Tips For Coffs Harbour (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track improving to around Heavy 8/9 and rail out 4m from 1000m to 350m into a Cutaway

Race 1 FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HCP (1012m):

We start on another rain-hit track rating with the girls. Taree filly 4. Outreach Belle is banging on the door, and right at home on heavy ground. Draws to roll forward and either lead or sit outside.

Dangers: Improving mare 2. Kat Kiss has been given a nine week freshen-up coming back in distance. Draws the inside, is hard fit, and only win so far came in heavy conditions two runs back; while local filly 6. Vaporetto has shown a liking for wet tracks.

How to play it: Outreach Belle to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 2 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 HCP (1012m):

Now the boys' edition, and there are several hopes. Local five-year-old 9. Supreme Prince has been mixing form on wet tracks all prep, but is well in at the weights in a race with less depth, and the drop back in trip is a big plus.

Dangers: Capable three-year-old 1. Married To The Mob is an obvious threat from the inside gate resuming for a new Gold Coast stable. Has had an easy trial, and won his only start on soft ground last winter. The conditions should also suit four-year-old 4. Bilbao who is deep into the prep, prefers wet ground, and down sharply in weight for a tougher test. Must respect 6. Rutto who surged home to win on a Heavy 10 at Taree in only his third start.

How to play it: Supreme Prince to win and box trifecta 1,4,6,9. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1315m):

Resuming mare 3. Seething Zonkey is aiming to break through at her 18th start, and was close-up in the second of two recent trials on a heavy rating.

Dangers: Local filly 7. Percontation wasn't beaten far second-up in a handy maiden, although a query in genuine heavy; while expect improvement second-up from 2. Rizzoli with blinkers coming off.

How to play it: Seething Zonkey to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 4 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (1315m):

Now the boys, and progressive three-year-old 5. Ferlaxing can strike at just his second start with blinkers added. Came off two handy trials to miss narrowly on debut in a deeper race and should relish these conditions.

Dangers: Hard fit and adept in this going, local three-year-old 6. Hypertension is the immediate threat with blinkers back on; while another former Victorian now trained on the track 8. Luz Long has been freshened for the shorter trip, with blinkers added among several key gear changes.

How to play it: Ferlaxing to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (810m):

Could be several vying to lead here over the short course scamper. Liked the way tough filly 3. Golden Fantasy fought on strong here on a Heavy 9 before being collared late by a handy provincial sprinter. Drawn to stay off the fence, and this is a shade easier.

Dangers: Big watch on 4. Demykani Miss resuming without the blinkers for a new local stable; while provincial filly 10. Shootforthestar can improve sharply second-up off a lengthy break significantly back in trip.

How to play it: Golden Fantasy to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 (810m):

Same dash for the older horses. Provincial filly 8. Superel charged late to win here two starts back on a Heavy 9 before outclassed in deeper grade at Muswellbrook. Dropping back to the short course is a big plus.

Dangers: Tough seven-year-old 2. Bangalley Lad has struggled in his last two, but gets a significant weight drop after the claim and will be closing off late; while watching the betting on 9. La Miska returning for her first run in nearly a year, and only win in five starts so far came at this track on heavy ground.

How to play it: Superel to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 7 CLASS 3 HCP (1615m):

Local five-year-old and proven weight carrier 1. Saintly Sunrise is the one to beat. Surged home carrying a kilo more to trounce a handy BM 58 field here on a Heavy 10, and while tackling some better ones here, he's at peak wet-track fitness.

Dangers: Improving three-year-old 5. Swanston finished best in soft ground three starts back before twice hitting the line well in similar grades. Reacts on wet tracks, although a query from the inside gate late in the day; while 6. Hurricane Max is well treated under 55kg coming back from a solid effort in BM 66 grade.

How to play it: Saintly Sunrise to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Saintly Sunrise wins at Coffs Harbour on April 1

Race 8 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1215m):

Promising and lightly raced provincial filly 8. Tawfiq Lass can send punters home on the right note second-up. Only missed by a neck resuming as a hot favourite in weaker grade, but bolted in at second start last spring on a Soft 7 rating. Headed for bigger targets.

Dangers: Consistent mare 7. Memphis Squaw is a real wet-tracker, with all four wins from 40 starts coming on soft or heavy ground. Surged home from just off the speed to win her latest here, and wider draw may well be a bonus late in the day. Keep safe 5. Bay Of Bengal at bigger odds after an impressive CL2 win in soft ground two runs back, and the second horse then won his next start.

How to play it: Tawfiq Star to win. Odds and Evens: Split a special
