Neil Evans' Tips For Beaumont Newcastle (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Good 4 and rail out 4m from 800m to 400m & 2m the remainder:

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1350m):

The maidens get us rolling & keen at the early value on Rubick three-year-old 3. Ruode who peaks third-up in a slightly thinner race. Liked the way he worked home from the rear into a place in two runs back from a five month spell, and from a good cover draw here, can settle much closer to the action.

Dangers: Coffs filly 6. Revealer is also knocking on the door fourth-up after charging home third-up in a country maiden at double figure odds. Tamworth mare 7. Suva May is the most talented runner in the field, and looms to break through third-up at her 25th start. Well placed here after hitting the line in a blanket finish across deeper provincial company 18 days ago. Gap to the rest headed by improving 2. Johnny Ravioli who has been right on the heels of the winner in his last two in much weaker grades, although gets an 8kg weight drop stepping up from picnic level.

How to play it: Ruode to win and box trifecta 3,6,7
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 CLASS 1 HCP (1300m):

Very keen on improving filly 1. Cannoli third-up. Chased home a smart filly at Armidale in similar company 13 days ago, and that horse swept home again to win a handy BM 58 at Coffs on Friday. The extra trip and bigger tracks are plusses, and so too the leading country jockey taking over.

Dangers: Drawn inside second-up, 2. Ollie's Secret gets a charmed run behind the speed; while consistent four-year-old 3. Vain Rich has been placed in his last two against similar opposition, but shapes under the odds from a trickier draw here.

How to play it: Cannoli to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (2100m):

Out over the longer trip now, and six-year-old home tracker 2. Winter Thorn can improve sharply second-up off a nine week break when unwanted in betting, and this lacks depth.

Dangers: Tough 6. Spoke To Rajiv will need some early luck from the wide draw, but comes off a smart country win in similar grade before working home bravely in a much tougher CL3 Highway at Randwick nine days ago. Included in exotic bets, 7. La Brea with winkers going on fourth-up; and 8. Croatian Madame off a last start win against weaker country opposition.

How to play it: Winter Thorn to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN HCP (1150m):

Tough maiden for the girls with plenty of new ones on show, and three metropolitan visitors can fight it out. Like debutant three-year-old 8. Just Easy by multiple Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist from the Gerald Ryan-Sterling Alexiou yard. Has been given two easy trials, and draws to get cover.

Dangers: Better Than Ready two-year-old 7. Firebolt is the natural threat on debut for a strong metro stable. Has been taken along steadily at the trials, and jumps from the inside gate. Keep safe Headwater three-year-old 2. Blue Thorpedo who starts her career behind two trials. Included in exotics, improving local 1. Lika Sun at her second start.

How to play it: Just Easy to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN HCP (1150m):

The boys' edition is an equally challenging affair headed by provincial three-year-old 6. Sidenay who can make light of his ordinary strike rate and break through fourth-up. Has worked home okay from both nearer the speed and well back in three runs this prep, but this is a handy drop in depth and quality, despite coming back 150m in trip.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by honest home tracker 1. Sir Tom who has been running home into the money all prep, but still has a task from an awkward gate. Watch the betting on Brave Smash two-year-old 9. Power Of The Brave who debuts for the leading provincial stable behind two improving trials; while metro-based 2. Ice Kat at his second start; and 13. Hellivit deep into his prep; are both capable of finishing in the minor money.

How to play it: Sidenay to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1150m):

Over the same trip again for the restricted girl sprinters, and hard to go around progressive metro three-year-old 3. Shiffrin third-up from a soft draw. Made a mockery of her double figure price in the country a fortnight ago charging home from near last to win, and can park even closer on this map in what is a very modest line-up.

Dangers: Keep safe 5. Nephradiva dropping in class third-up; while improving filly 4. Borrowed Luck will also find this more to her liking fourth-up, with a superior jockey aboard. From the second widest barrier 7. Miss Barty's Party can run home hard from back in the field third-up and a month between runs.

How to play it: Shiffrin to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1150m):

The boys' turn is also an open affair, although very keen on tough three-year-old 3. Iron Hat second-up with a claim in what is a weakened race after finishing well in a good quality CL2.

Dangers: One well over the odds is metro four-year-old 6. Ovoid back to a more suitable distance fourth-up; while 10. Metal Bar deep into his prep and 11. Peterzano third-up; can both add plenty of value into exotic bets.

How to play it: Iron Hat to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 8 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1350m):

Metro mare 9. Golden Gate has some quality about her, and this shapes nicely staying at the distance fourth-up. Has worked home late in two provincial runs since winning the Jardel Cup at Tamworth fresh off a long break, and gets a nice little weight drop with blinkers going.

Dangers: Big watch on local three-year-old 8. Par Five who hit the line late resuming in similar company, and has won two from three when second-up. Expect smart improvement from metro three-year-old 2. Piraeus also second-up; while 4. Royal Charge is over the odds second-up from a softer draw. Both home tracker 6. Rockbarton Roman from a soft trailing draw; and 7. Watch Me Rumble 17 days after finishing hard fresh in similar company; can both run into the minor money.

How to play it: Golden Gate to win
Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R6 3. SHIFFRIN
R8 9. GOLDEN GATE

BEST VALUE:
R7 3. IRON HAT
