Neil Evans' Tips For Bathurst (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Heavy 8 and rail out 2m from 1200m to 350m into a Cut/Away

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Tricky maiden sprint to start. Honest and consistent filly 8. Soho Sushi can break through second-up in her second prep. Was in and around the money right through her initial prep in better maidens than this, and returned with a tough close-up effort at Queanbeyan. Has a 50 percent place rate from eight starts.

Dangers: Keep safe improving filly 5. Aviadora who hit the line late when resuming at Cowra in heavy going. Watch the betting on Canberra two-year-old 9. Cougars who lost his rider on debut in that same race as the top selection after being supported at each way odds. 1. Green Pineapple can improve at fourth start and first time on rain-affected ground. Include lightly raced local duo 2. Lanwar with gear changes; and 3. Someway in wider exotic bets.

How to play it: Soho Sushi to win

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

Progressive three-year-old 4. Resurrected from the Annabel Neasham stable emerges third-up. Held his ground in a much deeper maiden at Wyong when resuming before missed by a long head as a hot favorite in the country. Costly for punters last time, but dictates from the inside draw here and with enough experience on wet tracks, he can finally break a run of placings at his 10th start.

Dangers: Stablemate to the top selection 6. Jawharat Dubai is a natural threat having built a similar record from the same number of starts. Has beaten all but the winner in four of his last five, including a much deeper Super Maiden on the Kensington track. Drawn out here, but having only missed a place twice from nine starts and relishing wet tracks, he only needs to find some sort of cover to again be in the finish. 3. Nay Pee Cee will appreciate a sharp drop in grade third-up after finishing near the back at Newcastle. Watch for any market support aboard 10. Legs Power, a gelded two-year-old first starter from the John Thompson stable; while a third Neasham runner 7. Phazed also drops back from deeper provincial opposition.

How to play it: Resurrected to win

Race 3 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1800m):

Well suited is underrated metro six-year-old 3. Buff In Disguise who hit the line late over a shorter trip second-up. Can peak here over this trip and drawn to be tucked away with cover back in the field

Dangers: 1. Weave That Web has been up for a long time, but keeps finding the line and racing well. 4. Slipstreaming defied a market drift to run home late and snatch a weaker class race fourth-up; while 2. Grenoble improving third-up; and 7. Damascus Gate slipping further down in weight; are the best of the rest.

How to play it: Buff In Disguise to win

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Another Neasham-trained visitor, two-year-old filly 10. November Air can break through at her second start. Despite being unwanted in betting on debut, still found the line okay in a much better affair at Newcastle after sitting on speed. A daughter of Pierata who is bred to relish wet tracks.

Dangers: Lightly raced 1. Luna Field reloads in weaker company 17 days after a fair closing run at Newcastle over a shorter trip. Has more than enough natural ability, but struggles to finish off, and must be some query at the price up in distance and weight in heavy ground. Keep safe improving 2. Sturty second-up; while watching the market on 3. Blanchette, a six-year-old mare on debut behind three very quiet trials for the Richard Litt yard at Warwick Farm.

How to play it: November Air to win

Race 5 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1300m):

Progressive 4. Who Ever Thought can make it two wins from his last three. Was given a freshen-up after a fighting BM 58 win at Scone, then worked home okay in deeper grade at Quirindi when not having the best of runs. Well placed on the map with a weight claim from the inside draw.

Dangers: Stablemate to the top selection 5. Climate Control was dominant as a short-priced favourite in heavy ground at Dubbo 15 days ago, loves the conditions, and rarely runs a bad one. Big watch on 2. Naval Destroyer who resumes off a nine week freshen-up and quiet trial. Capped a consistent and progressive prep last time by surging home as a heavily backed favourite to claim his maiden at Dubbo. Untested in heavy, but is a reliable weight carrier who comes to hand quickly. Both 7. Time Ruler and 9. Feirme Prince can run in the minor money.

How to play it: Who Ever Thought to win

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

Tough metro filly 5. Shisuta Bo can pick up where she left off last prep in a moderate affair. Kept improving through some handy country maidens last campaign, capped with a dominant front-running win at Goulburn as a hot favorite. Handles all conditions, and fitted for this with two progressive trials.

Dangers: 3. Commando Jack has ability, and is a clear threat dropping back from a much tougher CL3 Highway. Keep safe at good odds 9. Chesteray who went down by a whisker in a CL2 at Taree third-up. Watch for 6. One More Thing running home late third-up. Include 1. Endorsement fourth-up, and 4. Chico Casino, improving third-up; in all exotic plays.

How to play it: Shisuta Bo to win

Race 7 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1100m):

Plenty of chances here headed by versatile and provincial-based 1. Big Apple who reboots 33 days after running home hard in deeper grade, and was good though the line winning a recent trial.

Dangers: Watch for talented mare 3. Star Link hitting the line late second-up. 4. Invasive is also second-up, and will find this much more to his liking; while 5. Zenti third-up and 8. Gold Counter who resumes with multiple gear changes behind two trials; can both run into the money.

How to play it: Big Apple to win

Race 8 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1100m):

Progressive Kembla mare 2. Sussu can claim the closer second-up off a month-long freshening. Held her ground in deeper provincial company before motoring home late to miss by a long neck in similar company at Moruya. Drawn to stay well off the fence, and thrives in rain-affected going.

Dangers: Keep safe consistent mare 3. Life's A Party who resumes without publicly trialing, but took on much deeper races last prep. Capable 4. Zoom Outcome broke a long run of outs last start, flooding home in heavy ground to beat a smart BM 74 field at Dubbo. Watch the betting on metro filly 8. Picasso's Dream second-up for the Bjorn Baker stable; while 5. Pyromania dropping in weight fifth-up is an each way chance.

How to play it: Sussu to win

BEST BETS:
R3 3. BUFF IN DISGUISE
R6 5. SHISUTA BO

BEST VALUE:
R7 1. BIG APPLE
