Narromine Winners - Tips For Sunday 16th August

By Brad Gray

Tips and race by race preview by Brad Gray for Narromine on Sunday.

Race 1 - 11:55AM DUBBO EQUINE HOSPITAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (800 METRES)

Mark Milton looks to have a pretty handy filly on his hands in 10. Mighty Minnie if her Wellington trial is any guide. The Magic Albert three-year-old put herself on speed, settled and quickened under little pressure to win going away.

Dangers: 5. Aquilla Skye looks suited over 800m. She is a speedy galloper but is weak at the end of her races. Has race experience on her ride, draws to hold the fence and ran second to Skara Brae over 900m at Scone three runs back.

How to play it: Mighty Minni WIN ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 2 - 12:35PM 2DU/ZOO FM MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Siding with another first start here in 9. Five Bob for Kody Nestor. The Headwater filly trialled up very nicely at Gilgandra charging to the front and holding her rivals at bay including four time winner The Frick back in second place.

Dangers: 1. Potts Point has been around the mark in all three of his career runs. It was a handy enough race he ran in first up when third at Tamworth. 5. Hinvictus the knockout.

How to play it: Five Bob WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 3 - 1:15PM TEAM THOROUGHBRED NSW MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

Like the way 3. Little Jerry ran through the line at Dubbo last Sunday and on the back up out to 1300m, he’ll run better than his opening odds suggest. Is untried at the trip but the son of Deep Field gives every impression he’ll relish it.

Dangers: 10. Japingka ran on well from a long way back last start, but has had so many chances to crack her maiden. 11. Peroxide Blonde disappointed last start as the favourite. Not sure she loves wet tracks. 7. Tank Attack is in the mix too.

How to play it: Little Jerry WIN ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 4 - 1:55PM GILGANDRA NEWSPAPERS CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

11. Time To Dazzle loomed as the winner at Scone last start but ran out of gas at the 200m mark. That was over the mile after six weeks between runs so she was entitled to knock up. Strips fitter for that and there is less depth to this Class 1. Very well placed at the set weights too.

Dangers: 1. Fever Tree wasn’t beaten far by the flying Wild Rocket last start which stacks up well for this. Failed on a heavy track at Wagga three runs ago but has never raced better. 9. Pepita is the knockout.

How to play it: Time To Dazzle WIN ($5 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 5 - 2:35PM DANDY CUP DAY 17TH OCTOBER 2020 CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Resetting Edge is flying for his new trainer Wayne Martyn. Beat himself two back at Warren with a slow getaway when second to 6. On Time before reeling in Japingka to break his maiden. Senior hoop Grant Buckley goes on.

Dangers: 2. A Room Somewhere finds a winnable race off a five week freshen. Was racing like he wanted 1400m and probably a dry deck prior to his little break but there’s not a great deal of depth to this.

How to play it: Resetting Edge WIN ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS

Race 6 - 3:15PM KOOL ICE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Poster Man finally got the maiden monkey off his back last start at run number 19 so it might be a stretch to think he can go back-to-back but he loves wet tracks this horse. The drop back to 1200m doesn’t look ideal but he is four weeks between runs. Looks big odds.

Dangers: 1. Costas warrants respect but is always well found, 2. Epimetheus launches another preparation for Rob Potter and if he’s forward enough, he’ll run well as will the lightly-raced 7. Sir Finn having won well on debut.

How to play it: Poster Man EACH WAY ($17 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 7 - 3:55PM DOUGLAS EGAN MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (800 METRES)

For all of her convictions, five-year-old mare 8. Legarde performs well fresh and is a dead-set short courser so expect her to relish the 800m journey. Has her first start for a new stable and if she brings her best, she’ll take beating.

Dangers: 5. Mameli is a fascinating runner having won on debut at Wyong way back in January 2019. Was given a very quiet time in a recent trial. 6. Just A Flash is a slippery customer and fits into this race well.

How to play it: Legarde WIN ($10 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS

Race 8 - 4:35PM NARROMINE GOLD CUP (1600 METRES)

What a pickup 3. The Sledgehammer has been for Michael Mulholland winning all three starts for his new stable including the Forbes Cup last start. This isn’t any harder and the flying six-year-old handles all surfaces. He’s the horse to beat.

Dangers: Like the way 10. Hamogany savaged the line first up with 60.5kg. Imagine this is a second up target race and the early money was all for this horse. 2. Herzegovina is racing well without winning but does bring city form.

How to play it: The Sledgehammer WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 9 - 5:15PM NARROMINE SHIRE COUNCIL BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

If 1. Bravissimo can stride to the front in this the seven-year-old won’t be easy to run down. He is a proven wet tracker and thought he was brave to finish third last start at Forbes. Has plenty of weight but that’s somewhat negated if he is let roll.

Dangers: 4. Magic Charlee gets the winkers on after running in two Highway Handicaps. Back in trip off the freshen suits. 12. Lookin’ Alive looks primed third up on his home track while like what 13. Bid To Fame did first up.

How to play it: Bravissimo EACH WAY ($11 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT
