Murwillumbah Winners - Tips For Sunday 23rd June

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Murwillumbah meeting. Selections based on a good to soft track.

Race 1 - 12:31PM TAKE IT EZY MEAT CO. MDN HCP (1550 METRES)

3. Winter’s Promise gave a good sight up front when run down late in a 1200m maiden two weeks ago. Up in distance here a small query but back onto a firmer surface on her home track she should take running down again.

Dangers: 4. Wee Kahuna was a beaten favourite at Coffs Harbour two runs back then not disgraced at Scone finishing better than midfield in a maiden there. Perhaps the extra ground will help him and he’s struck a winnable race. 1. Twisted Mistress made her debut in the same race as Winter’s Promise and held her ground okay. Gets blinkers and a step up in trip and she could be a big improver. 2. Labarna was plain here last start but prior to that his fourth at Grafton was a handy enough performance so perhaps worth another chance.

How to play it: Winter’s Promise WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:11PM WRIGHT MACHINERY COUNTRY BOOSTED MDN HCP (1200 METRES)

6. Barron is clearly the horse to beat on the back of seconds at this track at his past two, albeit on heavy ground. Made a long run from the back last time over the 1010m and just missed, getting back to 1200m suits. Go well.

Dangers: 2. Rock Composer was a minor drifter in betting second-up here on heavy ground and just battled into fifth. In top local yard and inclined to give another chance on a firmer track. 9. Odette’s Orchids made a bid for home just before the turn and boxed on okay to run third here at her second start. Interesting to see how she performs on top of the ground and she stays under notice. 10. Temple Of Gold hasn’t raced since November but was in the market in all three runs for new stable and finished close up. Fitter for a recent trial and any support would be significant.

How to play it: Barron WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 1:51PM SOUTHERN AUTOS REPAINT & PANEL MDN PLT (1100 METRES)

1. Back On De Quo was resuming when a game fourth here two weeks ago and was softened up quite a bit after leading. Fitter for that and firmer ground looks a big plus for him. Expect improvement and to be one of the main chances.

Dangers: 11. Margot’s Bullseye was placed at Doomben back in April then always well back when safely held at Ipswich. First run for new trainer and blinkers come off. Any support will be a significant pointer. 10. Fayogold is on debut and will be better for a recent trial where she did a bit of chasing and held on okay to run second. Gets the favours from gate one and could show up. 12. Brooklyn Daisy is an interesting runner who was a drifter in betting when debuting at Bathurst on Anzac Day. Had a Rosehill trial a month ago. Pay to keep safe with blinkers on.

How to play it: Back On De Quo EACH-WAY ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:26PM CLUB TWEED GRAFTON CUP PREVIEW BM82 (2020 METRES)

3. Mindspace is very easy to like with three wins from his last four starts and if anything he’ll be better suited away from a heavy track which he revelled in to win at Coffs last time. Strikes a very winnable race and if he continues to hold his form he’ll be hard to beat.

Dangers: 2. Full Press will relish a dry track and he wasn’t disgraced finishing midfield in the Wingham Cup two weeks ago. Has won here and up to 2100m so should be competitive. 4. Sherriff Cody chased Mindspace home at Coffs last time out and while his best is also on wet ground he has drawn to get a nice run and could be in the finish somewhere. 1. Thought Of That isn't the horse he once was but comes back in class sharply on his three runs this time in.

How to play it: Mindspace WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:01PM VIVA RACING COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HCP (1010 METRES)

1. Ostracised showed improvement second-up at this course two weeks ago and has a few things in his favour here. Firmer track and the promise of a genuine tempo, and a good gate, should allow him to be strong late and hard to hold out.

Dangers: 3. Dusan ran them off their feet despite a small betting drift when scoring a Class 1 win here two weeks ago on heavy ground. Claim helps and could take running down. 2. Lady Tulessa should appreciate some firmer footing though she did give some cheek at Coffs Harbour on the heavy when placed last start. Keep in mind. 5. Golden Dubai has some patchy form but best effort to date was a win on a good track last preparation so may appreciate a return to better footing here.

How to play it: Ostracised WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 3:36PM NORTHERN RIVERS PROPERTY GROUP BM58 HCP (1200 METRES)

12. Intoexel showed a return to form with a narrow defeat at Grafton on a soft 6. Good record at this track and if she can back that effort up she’s a good chance to go one better.

Dangers: 5. Super Duck is versatile as far as track conditions go and while beaten favourite at Dalby last time he can be a player with even luck from the barrier. 8. Atomic Selfie ran a nice race when resuming at Beaudesert from a 10 month break. Can only be fitter and has a case. 11. Another Pedrille was a first-up winner at the same meeting. Consistent enough and with so many scratchings has to be considered.

How to play it: Intoexel EACH-WAY ($11 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:11PM MURWILLUMBAH SERVICES CLUB BM58 HCP (1550 METRES)

13. Hardley Grey is an honest type who has placed at his last couple including Lismore earlier in the week when back in trip. Has won here and the trip holds no fears if he can have a bit of early luck. Good each-way chance.

Dangers: 12. Electric Miss comes through the same race where she was big odds but closed late to run a close fourth. That was her first run since April so fitter and no surprise if she backs it up in a wide open race. 4. Hayaku was a popular winner at Gatton second-up. Broke maiden status at Grafton earlier in the year and getting up further in trip is within his reach. Must be included in the chances. 6. Westoak is racing well in easier company and knocked over a maiden win on a heavy 10 at Beaudesert earlier this month. Draws kindly and at first run for new trainer is worth some thought.

How to play it: Hardley Grey EACH-WAY ($9.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
