Former jockey Pat Murphy will make the trek to Cowra on Sunday with talented galloper Victory Roll set to contest the $36,000 Breakout River Meats Cowra Cup (1700m).
Originally trained in Queensland by David Vandyke, Victory Roll has won four of his nine starts since joining the Murphy stable, and he heads to Cowra at his second run back from a spell.
“He’s a nice horse that has shown plenty of ability in his short career,” said Murphy.
“He won his first start for me and didn’t take long to win again when scoring easily at Goulburn.
“I stepped him up to Highway grade in the city and he ran well enough when finishing sixth in one of them at Randwick before he won at Randwick following that.
“Then he won again in midweek company at Canterbury before he wasn’t beaten far when fourth in Saturday grade at Rosehill.”
Murphy spelled Victory Roll after the string of runs in town and he resumed with a seventh in the Moruya Cup two weeks ago.
“He’s taken benefit from that first-up run and I expect him to run very well at Cowra,” said Murphy.
“Shaun Guymer rode him at Moruya, and he sticks with him at Cowra.”
Trainer Tim Donnelly and jockey Mathew Cahill will chase success in the other feature at Cowra, the $32,000 Cowra Lamb Cowra Japan Cup (1200m).
The pair combine with Letme Entertainyou, which is a four-time winner from 14 starts and was a last start winner on the Riverside track at Wagga.
Letme Entertainyou is a four-year-old mare by Hellbent, and she camped on the speed and fought on strongly to score at her latest outing. She has the advantage of barrier one on Sunday.
Cahill has a strong book of rides at Cowra, with the mount on Mathrin awaiting in the Cowra Cup for trainer Michael Travers.
He will partner the Michael Lynch trained trio of Only Need One, Sabatina and Goodbye Stranger in races one, two and four respectively, while Helluva Teen (Neil Osborne), Grins (Ross Lomax) and Railway Avenue (Kathryn Cahill) are his remaining rides.
