Moruya Winners - Tips For Sunday 3rd March (Country Championships)

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Moruya Rosehill meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 12:55PM ALL ABOUT GLASS BATEMANS BAY MAIDEN PLATE (1650 METRES)

2. Jukebox Money is a 15 start maiden but on the evidence of his third-up run he might not be far off that elusive win. Strong at the end of 1500m at Goulburn last time when specked in betting. Not a lot of depth here so has a good chance.

Dangers: 5. Pauji Power started $26 on debut at Canberra and sat handy before staying on fairly for third in a six horse field. Imagine the rise in trip is a plus so stays under notice. 8. Grunade is lightly raced and has run on from the back to just behind the placings in both starts to date. Might be looking for this trip and has a case. 3. Ferghana has been disappointing in two run since a Canberra placing. Chance to improve here up in trip.

How to play it: Jukebox Money EACH-WAY ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Jukebox Money runs second at Goulburn on February 15

Race 2 - 1:35PM THE DOCK KINGSTON SHOWCASE BM66 HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

7. Sunchyme hasn’t raced since a dominant and well supported win here back in September. Form out of it has been pretty good and while no public trials she’s found a top rider and barrier one. Should be competitive.

Dangers: 1. Blue Grotto went to a break completing a hat-trick with a runaway win in a Class 3 here in August. Has a big weight but he’s hard to fault and must be respected. 8. Ticklebelly was a huge drifter when resuming at Goulburn but nobody told her as she ran out a solid winner over 900m. Can only be fitter and is one of the chances. 2. Lord Remy is in good form with two wins from his last three including one here. Must be considered.

How to play it: Sunchyme WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:10PM WILD OATS COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

3. Xspiritous was far from disgraced off a wide gate on debut at Wagga a month ago behind a smart one and lands in a very suitable race. If she’s come on from that then she should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 4. Missile Maiden is an interesting runner, she ran two handy races back in the spring and returns without a public trial. Betting a good pointer. 1. King Lane ran a nice race on debut on a heavy track back in September then failed badly here at only other start. Likely pay to forgive given the lengthy beaten margin. 6. Completely Package is back from a Class 1 at Goulburn where she finished midfield at a big price. Good chance here to make some sort of impact.

How to play it: Xspiritous WIN ($2.25 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:45PM THE JETTY CANBERRA SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

9. Wal’s Angels is entitled to be a short priced favourite after a narrow defeat at Albury two weeks ago. Ideally drawn, fitter and this looks a very winnable race. Take some beating.

Dangers: 7. Prophet’s Magic made a handy debut at Canberra in September then disappointed at Coonamble and spelled. Stable in good form and he should run a nice race fresh. 6. Point Out was a small drifter at his first start and made some ground to finish midfield at Goulburn a few weeks ago. Fitter for it and shouldn’t be far away. 11. Red Niccerz has put a couple of good runs together of late and was a huge drifter at Sapphire Coast but still battled on well. Each-way claims.

How to play it: Wal’s Angels WIN ($1.70 TAB Fixed Odds).

Wal’s Angels runs second at Albury on February 18

Race 5 - 3:25PM HECK OF A DECK - OBVIOUSLY GRILLED BM58 HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

8. Jewel Approach ran right up to solid support to score a popular win at Goulburn to break through at start six. Will need a bit of luck but seems to be appreciating the step up in trip and could go on with it now.

Dangers: 6. Sucrose led them up and fought on pretty well for third at Sapphire Coast in a much improved showing. Likes this sort of trip and is one of the chances. 7. Steamed Hams led throughout to win here in January then close up when straight to Class 2 a month ago. Honest and could give a sight. 2. Blaazay has an excellent record at his home track and can improve on latest even effort for fourth at Goulburn three weeks ago.

How to play it: Jewel Approach WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:05PM AMH AUTO GROUP MORUYA BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Montebello’s Charm has been going around in Highway company for the most part and has run a few handy races. Right back in grade here fresh and while 1200m is possibly short of his best this is a good chance for him to get the confidence up.

Dangers: 5. Serafima was fair in a Class 1 at Hawkesbury last time and there’s some question over whether she’s come back. On her form last prep she’s a real contender here so worth one more chance. 1. Jalmari has his first run for the new stable and his last win was at this track to start last preparation. Could be short of his best but any support would be significant. 2. Greaves drew wide and went back when not a factor at Sapphire Coast a month ago. Good record on his home track and has a chance to improve.

How to play it: Montebello’s Charm WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Montebello’s Charm runs fifth in a Randwick Highway

Race 7 - 4:45PM NEWHAVEN PARK SERA COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS (1400 METRES)

8. Bandi’s Boy is a promising galloper who ran a cheeky race in the Barn Dance in the spring and returned with a BM78 win at Randwick. Overcame a setback to run an eye-catching third at Rosehill last week and while drawn awkwardly it looks a truly run race and he’ll get his chance.

Dangers: 7. Atmospheric Rock has been dealt to by wide barriers of late but overcame one to win impressively at Randwick two starts back in a Highway, gave too much start at Rosehill last week up to 1400m. Draw a bit kinder to him and he has the talent to feature. 1. Zouatica hasn’t raced since he easily won the Moruya Cup back in January leading all the way on a wet track. Trial was okay recently. He will roll forward as usual and if he’s given any control he can take running down. 6. Associate has freshened up since winning over a mile at Goulburn where he was left in front a fair way out. Always shown some talent and he’s not without an each-way chance.

How to play it: Bandi’s Boy WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Bandi’s Boy runs third at Rosehill on February 24

Race 8 - 5:25PM ADELAIDE HOTEL COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 2 PLATE (1425 METRES)

5. Occhiata is pretty hard to fault of late with a couple of dominant wins at Canberra and Nowra. Put a gap on them last start at this trip, should roll forward and if she holds her form she’s the one to beat.

Dangers: 9. Destructive Diva ran okay behind Sir Ming at Goulburn then got back and worked home okay at Canberra in the Guineas Preview. Should be competitive here. 10. Heavenly Legend ran up to the $1.35 quote when scoring a maiden win at Sapphire Coast by a large margin. Could measure up. 11. Gypsy Romance is back in grade after failing in a Highway at Rosehill. Had a few chances but on best efforts could show up here.

How to play it: Occhiata WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds).
