Moree Winners - Tips For Thursday 8th August

By Jack Webster

Tips and race by race preview by Jack Webster for Thursday's Moree meeting. Selections based on a soft/heavy track.

Race 1 - 12:55PM PATRONS COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

8. Meddlesome did her best work late in the race to secure a placing on debut at Inverell. The move up to 1300m should work in her favour, and she looks talented enough to strike here if she can repeat her last effort.

Dangers: 7. Lady Of The Hunter displayed signs of potential prior to her spell but has been inconsistent with her performances. She has placed here over 1400m previously. Resuming now and looking to improve. 5. Glorien came close with some decent efforts last campaign but is yet to secure a win in her fifteen runs, finishing in the placings just twice. She showed signs of improvement with a solid performance at Gunnedah prior to her spell but had a disappointing effort first up at Inverell over a shorter distance that didn’t suit. She moves back to a more suitable distance here and has a chance to show up. 6. Holy Mackerel resumes here following a respectable trial at Scone. While she hasn’t seen much success in the past, she has the potential for a better performance this time.

How to play it: Meddlesome WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:35PM MOREE CUP 1ST SEPTEMBER MAIDEN HCP (950 METRES)

3. Weather fought reasonably on a wet track first up at the Sunshine Coast. He returns to country level here, and with a 3kg claim from apprentice Jade Metcalfe, he deserves consideration.

Dangers: 4. Buy Me A Birkin hasn’t seen much success since her debut, but after a stable change during her last spell, she’s shown improvement at country picnic meetings since resuming, with three placings, including a second-place last start at Wean. She has shown enough to be a potential threat here. 2. Winny Bee is fresh from a strong trial at Inverell over 1050m. He’s drawn an inside alley here and is in the running to be a threat on debut. 6. Hollywood Gold is another coming off a commendable trial win at Scone and looking to strike on debut. Worth considering.

How to play it: Weather WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:10PM EQUIMILLION 2024 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

10. Hot Gospel enters this race off the heels of a dominant victory in similar company last start at Dubbo on a heavy track over this distance. She hasn’t done much wrong in the three runs prior, with two placings over this distance since resuming. Certainly no harder here, and with an inside barrier, she will look to repeat that effort.

Dangers: 13. Relentless Ruby ran well over this distance in her first two races since resuming, including a respectable win second up at Gunnedah over this distance. She appeared to struggle last start on a Heavy 9, but she should be kept in the mix, as any improvement in the track is in her favour. 3. Invincible Red showed sound improvement from his previous efforts last start at Tamworth over 1400m. The jump up to 1600m and a good barrier here all point towards a positive race setup for him to be a major player in this race. 8. Ahoy saw some success with a win first up this campaign but disappointed last outing at Wean. She handles wet tracks and can improve from her last showing with the drop in weight, looking to return to her previous form.

How to play it: Hot Gospel WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:45PM MOREE AG SUPPLIES & STEEL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (950 METRES)

2. Prince Of Sepang was previously trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and has been tested in city races. With a 4kg apprentice claim, he will need to overcome the poor draw here but is worth considering.

Dangers: 9. Super Sioux came out on top in her last race at Tamworth, leading throughout and holding on. Back from a let-up here, she has previously won on a wet track. A key player in this. 13. Balletto led and won at Gladstone last start but hasn’t been tested on a wet track. Freshened, she will face some competition for the lead here, but with barrier one, she has every chance to be a contender in this race. 6. Freakshake likes to run on pace and withstood the competition last showing at Kilcoy. He presents today with a 2kg claim and a good draw. Right in this.

How to play it: Prince Of Sepang WIN ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:20PM PICONE BOOKMAKING GWYDIR HANDICAP BM82 HCP (1300 METRES)

9. Toulon Factor has a quick five-day turnaround coming off a well-run race at Gilgandra, with a strong late effort to win on the last stride. Racing at his preferred distance here with a 4kg apprentice claim and an inside barrier, he has form on wet tracks and will be a strong competitor in this race.

Dangers: 5. Foreign Brother is another with a quick five-day turnaround who can play a major role in this race. He meets Toulon Factor again, whom he battled in a photo finish last start. He will go close here and is sure to be among the finishers once more. 4. Buffet Buster is freshened coming into this race and returning to country level after not seeing much success in his last two starts at Hawkesbury and Newcastle. Worth considering. 1. Ma And Pa has been disappointing since resuming this campaign but put up a fair effort at Tamworth last start over 1600m. He can build on that performance and improve here. Could show up.

How to play it: Toulon Factor WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 3:55PM MOREE VETERINARY HOSPITAL COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HCP (1400M)

3. Jakat was outdone in his last start but ran home well from a wide position. He has seen success at this distance in the past and gets a 3kg claim. He should be among the front runners in this race.

Dangers: 6. Stock The Rose will have to overcome an unfavourable barrier here but put in a solid performance last start at Tamworth, just missing out on a place after running on well. Fitter third up and one of the chances. 9. Leica Model was unplaced in her first preparation but showed signs of improvement when resuming at Quirindi, narrowly missing out on a victory. She looks set to benefit from the jump in distance and, with a decent barrier here, will aim to build on her last performance. 7. Allay might have started her run too early in a reasonable effort last start at Muswellbrook. She can handle wet tracks, and with a good draw, is given every chance to run well here. Worth considering.

How to play it: Jakat WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:35PM SINCLAIR RACING CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. Power Beau was impressive at Tamworth last start, winning convincingly after making a strong finish from the back of the field. He’s fitter third up here, and everything seems to be in his favour this time with a good gate and a 2kg claim. One to keep an eye on in this race.

Dangers: 14. Adviser has had solid recent form in his previous outings and has been threatening to strike for quite some time now. He was runner-up at Inverell last start, where he was on pace and just beaten in the last strides of the race. With a 4kg claim here, he can be in the running again. 2. Air Combat set the tempo and secured a victory in a similar race at Dubbo last start. He draws an awkward gate here but is still among the top contenders in this race. 5. Off The Press has struggled to return to his previous form since his spell but is fitter third up and draws barrier one here. He has a chance to redeem himself.

How to play it: Power Beau WIN ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
