Moree Winners - Tips For Sunday 1st September

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Moree meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 1:05PM MOREE SERVICES CLUB MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE (1400 METRES)

4. Suit Day went to a break with a couple of solid second placings in the space of four days back in April. No public trials but strikes a winnable race and if he can hold that form from last prep should be in the finish.

Dangers: 6. Barrieanna has improved with each start and kept coming into fourth on a heavy track at 1200m two weeks ago. Shapes as though the trip may suit and is worth keeping in mind. 8. Just Breathe ran a couple of handy races around this trip last time in and if fitter for two runs back. Even effort at Tamworth and the quick back-up might be in her favour. Blinkers on so stays under notice. 3. Santos El Halper started a well supported favourite when a battling fifth here back on August 8. Needs to improve on that but chance to do it.

How to play it: Suit Day WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:40PM MOREE CHAMPION SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (950 METRES)

9. Te Pani is ex-Annabel Neasham and joins the Lundholm stable with three thirds on end. Even effort at Sunshine Coast just a couple of weeks back, gets in well with the claim and you’d expect her to be competitive.

Dangers: 1. Hollywood Gold made a promising debut over this course almost a month ago charging home into second. Draws wide so likely gets back again but is well worth including in the chances. 2. Savagoodtime makes his debut after a couple of trials at Scone and Tamworth including one earlier this week. Draws well and if there’s any support for him he’s in the mix. 10. Brea Ex had support at debut and led before holding on for a sound second at Tamworth. Wide draw but has speed and could take some catching.

How to play it: Te Pani WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:15PM ORICA CLASS 1 & MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE (1600 METRES)

6. Reflecting Fame ran right up to expectation as an odds-on favourite scoring easily on a heavy track at Tamworth two weeks ago. If he can carry that form onto a good track this isn’t a big step up and he’ll be hard to beat again despite the barrier.

Dangers: 9. Descending Mist isn’t far off a win and tried hard when chasing Reflecting Fame home last time. If the good track is more in his favour then he could turn the tables. 5. More For Us showed improvement second-up when running into third at Grafton over 1700m. Strike rate a bit of a worry but every chance to improve on it from the inside gate. 11. Mariner’s Dream is a little harder to line up with three handy runs in the south including his fourth on the synthetic at Canberra. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Reflecting Fame WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:50PM B & W RURAL CLASS 3 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (950 METRES)

1. Acotango is an interesting runner resuming, he has a handy enough fresh record and has tackled better races than this and run well. Fitter for two trials and gets in well with the claim soi if he’s within reach on the turn he’s a good chance.

Dangers: 4. Jet Empress has done little wrong and had excuses when unplaced for the first time before a spell. No public trials but she fires fresh and should be competitive. 3. Puerto Rico is yet to win first-up but he’s also yet to miss a place when fresh so he stays under notice from the favourable draw for his racing style. 6. Too Darn Lovely disappointed first-up at Newcastle a month ago but all her previous form was honest and she’s capable of improvement.

How to play it: Acotango WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:26PM WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER SERVICE TOWN PLATE (950 METRES)

8. Spinosaurus is an honest sprinter who fought on hard when narrowly beaten at Wagga a few weeks ago. Draws to be prominent in the run, interesting to see how the form lines up but his Kembla placing prior reads well too. Good chance.

Dangers: 5. Outishka looks the logical danger, was too good at Newcastle over 900m before an even effort up in class at Warwick Farm. Gets in light with the claim and should feature. 9. Hiraishin is unbeaten after three runs at this track including his last start easy win in a Benchmark 58 over this course. Up in class but hard to leave out of the discussion. 7. Dubbo Wanderer hasn’t raced for a year but has trialled okay leading in. Wide gate may be an issue but look for a positive return.

How to play it: Spinosaurus EACH-WAY ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:01PM BOLAND PETROLEUM CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Paris Lad showed promise in his first preparation winning easily on debut then notching a couple of placings up to Class 2 level. Has trialled and not badly placed with the claim. Should be around the mark fresh.

Dangers: 5. Wolf Bay was right in the market when resuming at Dubbo and just weakened late into third. Fitter for that and drawn ideally so can only expect improvement on that. 1. Rura Penthe hit the line when the race was all over first-up on a heavy track at Tamworth. Might want a shade further but firmer track suits and should be running on again. 7. Night Fighter disappointed at this track last time out over a mile so perhaps the distance drop is in his favour. So he could bounce back.

How to play it: Paris Lad WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:36PM GRAYSONLINE MOREE CUP (1400 METRES)

4. Prophet’s Pride has to run out the 1400m but she’s a game on pacer who is racing in good form in the south of the state. Placed at Canterbury four runs back and drawn to either lead or be right there. Should give a good account.

Dangers: 8. Rajnish has been honest in a couple of strong Highways in Sydney and gave 4.5kg to the smart Intervarsity at Rosehill two weeks ago. Is due another win and has a good chance. 2. Indifference gave a sight at big odds when a close sixth at Rosehill in a Benchmark 78. Won over a mile at Tamworth prior and has to be respected. 6. Dream Game sat handy and boxed on when resuming over this trip at Dubbo. Fitter for it and with the light weight and soft draw stays under notice.

How to play it: Prophet’s Pride EACH-WAY ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Prophet’s Pride runs second at Canberra on August 23

Race 8 - 5:11PM MCGREGOR GOURLAY BM58 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

8. Magic Flyer has been favourite in both runs back and wasn’t disgraced on a heavy track at Tamworth last time out. Much better suited on top of the ground here and the extra 100m is in his favour. Well worth another chance.

Dangers: 1. Gold Counter led under 62kg first-up at Dubbo and gave a good sight in the lead before being run down late. Fitter for that and should run well again. 3. Wanda River wasn’t fancied in betting first-up at Tamworth but finished too well to score. Building a good record and if he can hold that form he’ll be in the finish again. 5. Leica Model is unbeaten in two starts at this track and proved a bit too good despite a betting drift when scoring over 1400m here almost a month ago. Definite chance.

How to play it: Magic Flyer WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).
