Meet And Greet The Grey Wonder At Tuncurry Open Day

By Mark Brassel

Tuncurry-Forster trainer Terry Evans will be hosting an open day in five weeks’ time where attendees can meet and greet his stable star Sir Ravanelli.

The grey stormed home to win the final race of The Coast meeting that was transferred from Gosford to Newcastle a fortnight back.

“We’re inviting everyone to attend our open stable day on Sunday 30th June starting at 11am,” Evans said.

“I’ll have my hardworking team there with a free BBQ and people can come along and meet our grey superstar Sir Ravanelli.

“There’ll also be prizes to be won and anyone can learn how to become involved in racehorse ownership with a parade of new incoming horses to the stable.

“And there will be the chance to meet our special guest, former champion jockey Kevin Langby who will be signing giveaway photos on another past champion grey, Gunsynd.”

Meanwhile, Scone trainer Scott Singleton will be taking two talented gallopers to Thursday’s Wellington race meeting with both horses having strong prospects of success.

The Singleton stable has been in hot form recently with 10 winners from the past 47 starters.

First of the duo is four-year-old Aquarter who is entered for the Benchmark 66 Handicap (900m).

Aquarter is a last start winner at Muswellbrook over 1000m when having his first start for 20 weeks.

The gelding was a Gunnedah 1000m winner back in December and has recorded four wins and two placings from his 13 starts.

And Thor’s Lightning has been nominated for the Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1100m).

The gelding has only raced on five occasions with his best performance being runner-up to Exsensible at Armidale in November.

He’s a late bloomer as Thor’s Lightning did not make his debut until he was a five-year-old when unplaced at Armidale last September.

Thor’s Lightning last raced in December when fifth to Monazel at Dubbo (1200m) after being solid in the market but has since trialled well.

In his Muswellbrook 1000m barrier trial Thor’s Lightning finished strongly to score a narrow win.

The Singleton camp was relieved smart mare Dollar Magic broke a run of six seconds on end to claim the final race at Scone last Saturday.

Bathurst trainer Dean Mirfin is also heading to Wellington with a couple of gallopers, De Forerunner (Benchmark 74 Handicap, 1400m) and Bulla Vinaka (Country Boosted Class 1 Handicap, 1400m).

De Forerunner is a last start winner at Mudgee over 1100m having previously been placed at Orange (1310m) and Bathurst (1400m).

Bulla Vinaka was unplaced at Cootamundra (1200m) last time out in his first appearance for 12 weeks.

The Mirfin stable has also been having a successful run of late with recent winners Tokyo Run (Wellington and Dubbo), Don Stefano (Goulburn) and Ida’s Rules (Bathurst).
