Lismore Turf Club is planning a double whammy raceday and fundraiser for injured secretary-manager, Scott Jones.
LTC deputy chairman, Mike Cleaver, said the club has a major raceday on Saturday 17 March which doubles as a family raceday to be followed by a massive fundraiser on Sunday 18 March. The fundraiser will also be held at the track.
“We’ve organised a big family day for the mums and dads and their kids on the Saturday and then a big fundraiser on the Sunday. Helen (Sinclair) is looking after it all for us. That will include a big auction and we already have some brilliant memorabilia promised for that auction.
“We’ve had so many offers from everyone. Racing NSW has also been a big help. At this stage, we are sorting through it all and have a lot in the pipeline.”
Scott Jones is recovering well from a terrifying explosion at the course on November 23. Scott suffered burns to 45% of his body and was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital where he underwent a number of operations and skin grafts. He has been released from hospital and is now recovering at home, said Mike Cleaver.
“He came into the club and had a chat last week,” he said. “He’s doing his rehabilitation at home now but does go back up to Brisbane to see his specialists. He’s going well though and way ahead of where they thought he would be.”
Mike Cleaver said the club will race again next month (Monday 17 February) before the special family day meeting on March 17. Any enquiries about the special family day meeting and fundraisers can be forwarded to Mike Cleaver at the LTC (0455 183 541).
