Local galloper Street Cred is poised to repeat his last start victory when he lines up in the Queanbeyan Leagues Club Boxing Day Races Benchmark 58 (2000m) at Queanbeyan on Thursday.
Street Cred recorded the fourth win of his 31-start career at Canberra on November 26 when he was able to dominate after racing in the lead.
The six-year-old will again be ridden by apprentice jockey Amy McLucas with her 1.5-kilogram claim reducing the gelding’s weight to 59 kilograms.
Street Cred has raced three times at Queanbeyan for a second and a third and will again be at his preferred distance of 2000 metres.
Raced by a large syndicate of owners, Street Cred has recorded three of his four victories over 2000 metres.
Queanbeyan trainer Mick Smith has enjoyed a winning run of late with four winners from his past 13 starters.
Smith won with Pahruli at Queanbeyan on October 12 and either side of that victory was successful with Radio Head (Canberra) and Hello China (Wagga).
Last start winner Goodradigbee has been consistent of late and is coming off a last start victory in the Cooma Cup last Saturday.
His trainer Mark Gee celebrated a long-priced winner earlier in the week at Wagga with Who But Roo ($41) and he will again team up with jockey Brendan Ward.
The senior rider landed a winning double at Wagga on Monday with his other winner, Gottaluvtrucks, prevailing in a thrilling finish at odds of $14.
Confident Lad has won two of his five starts at 2000 metres and can be expected to run a forward race after racing in provincial grade at his past three starts.
Meanwhile, jockey Brodie Loy ticked off a milestone this week and has the opportunity to add to it on Thursday.
Loy landed a winning double at Wagga on Monday which brought up the 400th win of his career.
The 25-year-old’s best hope could be Accrue which has a win and four placings from his past four starts at Queanbeyan.
Accrue will contest the Britton Taxis Benchmark 58 (1400m) where one of the favoured runners, Sly Song, has been withdrawn.
