A cornerstone of Bathurst’s Legend's Cup meeting on Sunday 11 February is the Markey Saddlery Legends Rider Award.
In 2018, Markey Saddlery has generously increased their support to the meeting by providing a $2000 award for the leading rider across four key races:-
• Bathurst Cup
• Bill Aspros Cup
• The Barb
• The 'Ida Traille'
“Markey Saddlery is a great supporter and their best rider award has been a feature of every Legends meeting,” said Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing's GM, Michelle Tarpenning.
“So this year we have raised the profile of the award to cover four very interesting races - and Markeys has responded with increased support.
“The legend himself 'King' Billy Aspros - along with this year’s ambassador John Letts - will be the sole judges of the award across the four races and they will keep everyone informed through the day of who is leading the competition which will be judged on a 5,2,1 points score across each of the four events.”
Champion jockey now trainer, Ron Quinton, had some sage advice for one of Sydney's top apprentices Blaike McDougall, who took out a feature race at Bathurst in 2016: "I’m watching Blaike at the track most mornings and I’m impressed with his work ethic – if he keeps that focus and application his career can only keep going forward.”
Gates open at 11am with marquee packages still available and a free sausage sizzle held on the day. BTR hosts an eight-race program with the first race expected to start at 1:41pm.
