John Schell's Tips For Taree (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a heavy track)

Race 1 - 12:55PM GET YOUR KOSCIUSZKO TICKETS MAIDEN PLATE (1250 METRES):

1. Ferrimo has been placed in three of his eight starts and was midfield at this track last time out when an odds-on favourite and running fifth of eight. Ben Looker sticks with him in this and he doesn’t strike an overly strong field here. This looks a nice race for Ferrimo.

Dangers: 2. Kitsilano was beaten under a length when finishing third at Muswellbrook when second-up from a spell. He’s been placed in three of his eight starts and is worth plenty of thought here. 4. Quiet Approach has been placed in seven of his 13 starts and has finished third and second in his latest two runs at Tamworth. This looks a nice race for him. 10. Welcome Back has had plenty of chances but was placed at this track last time out and could be placed without surprising.

How to play it: Ferrimo WIN.

Race 2 - 1:35PM STACKS LAW FIRM CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2000 METRES):

6. Special Day has only won one of 20 starts but has been placed in a further seven of her starts. She finished third at Newcastle and then at Wyong before running second at Muswellbrook when narrowly beaten, and she was solid again when third at Wyong last time out.

Dangers: 1. Born Conqueror was a winner at this track in April and has performed well in each run since then. He was narrowly defeated when a last start second at this track and is one of the leading chances here. 3. Killzy finished third at this track in the same race Born Conqueror finished second in last time out. He’s got the talent to give this a shake. 4. Merapi has the same formlines having run fifth here at her last start in the race Born Conqueror and Killzy contested. She could be placed here.

How to play it: Special Day WIN.

Race 3 - 2:10PM TAREE CUP NEW DATE 18 OCTOBER 2&3YO M HCP (1000 METRES):

4. Laizabout is a Zousain two-year-old on debut here on the back of a barrier trial victory at this track on a heavy surface last week. He won that trial by a big margin and looks hard to hold out in this.

Dangers: 1. So Outrageous started his career with the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable and finished second on debut at Rosehill before failing at Canterbury when eased out of the race in November and then being spelled. He’s had two recent trials leading into this and can make an impact. 12. Monrainia finished second in a recent Hawkesbury trial and looks to have the talent to give this a shake, while 13. Shalamiyna ran well enough when midfield on debut at Grafton and can figure in the money here without surprising.

How to play it: Laizabout WIN.

Race 4 - 2:50PM SKY INTERNATIONAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

4. Bertie was a well backed favourite when doing the job well to score a win at Muswellbrook at his latest start. This looks a nice race again for him and he should be in the thick of things.

Dangers: 3. Mosgiel Daisy had been racing well before breaking through with a win at this track when last produced. She has the ability to race well again in this grade. 5. Hotzino ran third at this track when resuming from a spell and she looks to have the talent to give this a shake. 6. Royal Teens ran fourth behind Know Thyself at Rosehill in Highway grade and that form looks strong for this race.

How to play it: Bertie WIN.

Race 5 - 3:25PM JW ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

1. He’s A Copy Boy had been racing very well with a fifth at Scone behind Dances With Hooves being followed by a couple of safely held Highway efforts in town. He since bounced back to near his best when finishing second behind Imperial Hilton at Grafton last Sunday week. That was a sound effort and he only needs to run up to that performance in order to be rated the one to beat in this.

Dangers: 7. She’s Got Teeth was placed here three starts ago and then won at Kempsey. She was close-up when third at Tamworth last time out and should figure prominently here. 8. Lake Mac Lily won at massive odds at Muswellbrook two starts ago and then ran well enough at the same track when sixth there last time out. She has claims in this. 2. Ashim wasn’t beaten too far at Grafton behind Imperial Hilton at his latest start and is far from the worst in this line-up.

How to play it: He’s A Copy Boy WIN.

Race 6 - 4:05PM HYDRAHOSE HOSE & FITTINGS CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1250 METRES):

1. Shihab is a talented galloper that was a winner here four starts ago before finishing second to Know Thyself at Rosehill. He then was down the track at Rosehill before running well again when a last start second at Grafton. He has a good record and this looks well within his reach.

Dangers: 2. Lady Soames powered home to score a narrow victory at Tamworth at her latest start and she only needs to run up to that effort in order to be rated one of the hardest to hold out in this. 3. Simplicity is a former Godolphin galloper that has shown enough talent in her career to be worth plenty of though in this company. 6. Foolish wasn’t beaten far when second at Muswellbrook last time out and he is worth including among the main chances here.

How to play it: Shihab WIN.

Race 7 - 4:40PM CLEAVERS TYRES COUNTRY BOOSTED BM 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

5. Monte Cruise resumed from a spell with a dominant victory at Coffs Harbour as favourite. She backed that up with a third at Grafton when favourite again and while she was soundly beaten in that event, she ran well enough to be rated the one to beat again in this.

Dangers: 1. Cupid’s Kiss had been racing in great form with two wins here and a third and a second before settling last and powering home out wide to score a strong Muswellbrook victory last time out. She’s a talented mare and should take plenty of beating again in this. 4. Floss’s One was a winner here three starts ago and hit the line well to finish third here at her last start. She has claims again here. 10. Maasai Mara is resuming from a spell here and has been placed in two recent trials. She can figure in the placings in this without surprising.

How to play it: Monte Cruise WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (6) Special Day.
Race 5 (1) He’s A Copy Boy.

Best Value:
Race 4 (4) Bertie.
