John Schell's Tips For Scone (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 1:15PM VINERY YEARLINGS COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES):

3. Don’t Call Me Honey started favourite on debut at Tamworth and ran well when finishing second, with the winner of that race since running a good race in city grade in Brisbane. Don’t Call Me Honey has had a trial leading into this and should be primed to run well.

Dangers: 2. Super Story had been racing well with a string of placings before a midfield effort at Walcha last time out. He can bounce back into the placings here. 1. More Szyslak had one start at Muswellbrook last September and was midfield there. He resumes here and is a recent trial winner. 7. Silent Invasion is a filly on debut and finished second in a recent trial at this track.

How to play it: Don’t Call Me Honey WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM DARREL TUCKEY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (900 METRES):

9. Dozen Kilpatrick is a speedy customer which is suited by the 900m in this. He’s been thereabouts since winning at Moree four starts ago and has the assistance of apprentice Braith Nock’s claim.

Dangers: 3. Sardonyx ran third on debut at Dubbo before resuming from a spell with a win at that track. She since led up and finished fourth when not beaten far in her only other run and only needs to run up to that to be a leading contender here. 2. Who Ever Thought ran well on debut at Canberra before winning at Moruya and then being spelled. He resumes here and has had a trial to prepare. 1. Jo Jo Sun was a winner at Muswellbrook four starts ago but hasn’t figured in the placings since then. He can improve in this.

How to play it: Dozen Kilpatrick EACH WAY.

R3 - 2:25PM WWW.WIDDEN.COM ‘AUSTRALIA’S LEADING VENDOR’ MAIDEN (1200 M):

12. Nettles is a lightly raced filly which has had four starts and hasn’t been further back than fifth in any of them. She resumed from a spell with a solid fourth behind River Pat and Cross Your Heart and that form has stood up well since.

Dangers: 4. Coastal Groove is on debut here but has had a number of trials and could run well without surprising. 1. Braven has only had three starts but ran his best race yet when second at Hawkesbury before being spelled. He’s had two trials to be readied for this. 8. Hell Of A Show failed when resuming at Newcastle but can show improvement in this.

How to play it: Nettles WIN.

Race 4 - 3:05PM SCONE EQUINE HOSPITAL MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES):

7. Resurrected has been placed in two of his latest three starts and comes into this on the back of a last start fifth at Canterbury against better opposition when beaten just over a length. This race looks easier and he gets his chance to break through.

Dangers: 4. Draco’s Fire finished second on debut at Bathurst and should have derived benefit from that assignment. He is worth plenty of thought against these. 2. Dashing Power missed a place as favourite at Tamworth last time out but wasn’t beaten far and can improve in this. 5. Mad Harry ran well at this track at his second start and can figure in this with a repeat.

How to play it: Resurrected WIN.

Race 5 - 3:40PM DARLEY COUNTRY BOOSTED BM 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

8. Night Patra hit the line well for a last start second at Tamworth behind Sidenay over this distance and the big track here looks like it will suit. He can go one better this time.

Dangers: 3. Burraneer Buoy failed at Muswellbrook two starts ago before improving with a fifth in Highway grade at Rosehill last time out. A repeat of that would give him a hope in this. 2. Zoffany’s Gaze won at Tamworth in good style at his latest start and is worth plenty of thought here. 7. Capaldi had been racing well before finishing seventh in Highway company at Randwick. He should run well against these.

How to play it: Night Patra WIN.

Race 6 - 4:15PM BJ HOWES METALAND CONDITIONAL BM 68 HCP (1350 METRES):

8. Loving Angel broke through to win her latest two starts at Wellington and Parkes before being spelled. She resumes here and is a recent trial winner at Gilgandra. She’s drawn wide here but has the speed to overcome that.

Dangers: 10. Dolly Jayne was placed at this track two starts ago then was spelled after a midfield Muswellbrook effort. She resumes here and warrants thought. 11. Snowdrop resumes here on the back of a trial at this track and was a last start winner at Dubbo. 3. He’s Purring finished second at Muswellbrook two starts ago before failing last time out. He can improve here.

How to play it: Loving Angel WIN.

Race 7 - 4:50PM CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW- CLASS 4 HCP (1200 METRES):

2. Super Extreme was resuming from a spell when hitting the line to score a win as favourite at Dubbo. His for last campaign was solid with it including a second behind Bandi’s Boy in Highway company at Randwick. He’s drawn well in this and gets his chance to go on with the job.

Dangers: 4. Demitasse has been contesting city races and running well having followed a midfield Rosehill effort with a last start second on the Kensington track. That form looks strong for a race like this. 5. Transplant returns from a let-up here and was a last start winner at Orange. She should run well if she repeats that performance. 12. Melody Again was a Highway winner at Rosehill before being spelled then resumed with a disappointing effort at Randwick when again in Highway company. She can improve here.

How to play it: Super Extreme WIN.

Race 8 - 5:30PM PRYDE’S CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

4. Know Thyself had performed well in his trials before debuting at Newcastle as a short-priced favourite and overcoming a tight run in the straight to end up running away with an easy win. He steps up in grade and distance for this but has plenty of upside.

Dangers: 12. Sabana debuted with a second at Scone before winning in good style at Nowra when hitting the line well. She has solid claims again here. 14. Himorher broke her maiden at Muswellbrook when last produced and has solid claims again. 3. Hasty Honey was an odds-on favourite when scoring her maiden win at Newcastle before being spelled. She resumes here and should sprint well fresh.

How to play it: Know Thyself WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (12) Nettles.
Race 8 (4) Know Thyself.
