John Schell's Tips For Quirindi (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:55PM MEL BROWN CATERING MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

8. Calico Miss is a three-year-old filly by Better Land that had a trial at Tamworth around this time last year then went out for a break. She has since returned and won a recent trial at Armidale in preparation for this debut effort. She has the advantage of barrier one in this event and can begin her career in winning form. 9. Lightning Princess is a Tamworth trained filly that is also on debut, and she finished fourth in her only trial leading into this. 10. Zousilence had a number of trials either side of a break before debuting with a midfield effort at Port Macquarie. He is drawn well here and can improve. 1. Cooma Hut resumed from a spell with a third at Armidale and he can be placed again if he can run up to that effort.

How to play it: Calico Miss WIN.

Race 2 - 1:35PM QPP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

10. The Piccolino has been racing well with second placings in his latest two starts behind Divine Bene on the Beaumont track at Newcastle and then behind Lady Olenna at Scone. That form looks solid for a race like this, and he looks to get his chance to break through. 1. Rivana resumed from a spell with a third at Gosford and followed that up with a seventh at Wyong. He should find this easier. 6. I’m Opinionated was midfield at Coonabarabran when last produced and could sneak into the minor money against these. 4. Nickers Boy battled on well when third at Taree last time out and can give cheek again from the good draw.

How to play it: The Piccolino WIN.

Race 3 - 2:10PM PURSEHOUSE RURAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Cashaway Gold looked good in a trial against Hawker Hall before resuming from a lengthy spell with a dominant win at Port Macquarie when leading throughout. She can win again here if she can run up to that performance. 2. Hollywood Gold scored at this track before being spelled and has finished third in a Scone trial leading into this return to racing. He’s drawn well and has solid claims. 5. She’s A Bad Girl has been placed in her two latest starts and can figure in the money again, while 9. Atoka is a last start Armidale winner that is not out of this.

How to play it: Cashaway Gold WIN.

Race 4 - 2:45PM WILLOW TREE CUP 31ST MAY MAIDEN PLATE (1450 METRES)

6. Perasta has been racing consistently and finished third on the Beaumont track at his latest start. He’s been placed in four of 12 starts and can break through against these. 8. Closetothinkitover resumes here having finished fifth on debut at Scone in December. She’s a nine-year-old but has had a solid trial leading into this return. 11. Lady Lilibet resumed with a seventh at Scone and should be improved by that effort. 3. Mr Chips ran well at Armidale at his latest run and is deserving of thought.

How to play it: Perasta WIN.

Race 5 - 3:20PM ELDERS KILLARA FEEDLOT BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

5. Finger Bun resumed with a sixth when not beaten far at Armidale and strips fitter for this. The step up in distance suits and a bold showing is expected. 1. Image Of The Sun is second-up and has had a trial after a first-up failure. The step up in distance is in his favour. 3. Enterprise Lassie had her first run for the new stable when a solid fourth at Scone and should get every chance from the inside gate. 11. Newfangled Jill is resuming from a long spell and bears close watching.

How to play it: Finger Bun EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 3:55PM GOWINGS TOYOTA COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

1. Cumboogle has been racing in fine form with two wins from as many starts since resuming from a spell. He has looked good winning at Wellington and Orange of late and while he’s up in weight again he still has the benefit of Zoe Hunt’s claim and a good barrier. 3. Outta De Lady resumed from a spell with a Warren victory, and he hasn’t been far away in his three starts since then. He’s drawn wide here but can take up a forward position and be hard to hold out. 6. Too Darn Lovely won well at Scone before being spelled and while she hasn’t done much in two runs since resuming, she can lift on those efforts and show improvement here. 2. Octavian Treasure is returning from a break and is talented at best and could be placed without surprising.

How to play it: Cumboogle WIN.

Race 7 - 4:35PM DISABILITY & AGED CARES SERVICES BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Sammiballerina resumes from a spell here having not been disgraced in her latest three runs before the break which followed a Highway run at Randwick. She’s had a Scone trial leading into this and is poised to sprint well fresh. 2. Insightful Award won by a big margin at Scone two starts ago and was midfield at Wyong following that. She has the talent to give this a major shake. 7. Archaic Force resumed from a spell with a fourth at Port Macquarie when beaten less than a length and despite being drawn wide here he has the talent to make an impact again. 12. Dolly Jayne wasn’t beaten far when a last start third at Armidale and she can get into the money again without surprising.

How to play it: Sammiballerina EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (3) Cashaway Gold.
Race 4 (6) Perasta.

Best Value:
Race 7 (3) Sammiballerina.
