John Schell's Tips For Orange Cup Day (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 12:35PM WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

6. Sparklenglitter has had two trials since joining the Pat Murphy stable for a second at Goulburn in November and then a win at Canberra earlier this month. She’s making her race debut here and looks to have the ability to give a bold showing. 10. Supreme Style was a trial winner before debuting with a second at Coonamble and a repeat of that would have her figuring prominently again. 8. Joy Of The World finished third at this track when last produced and could get into the minor money again, while 4. Sesto is on debut and was placed in two trials late last year.

How to play it: Sparklenglitter WIN.

Race 2 - 1:10PM ENDEAVOUR MEATS SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1280 METRES)

1. Jolly Good Fellow showed ability with a city placing to his name last preparation. He since joined a new stable before resuming with a fifth at Warwick Farm and that form looks strong for a race like this. 5. Northern Eagle disappointed at Goulburn last time out but can improve. 7. Still Excited wasn’t beaten far at Newcastle last time out and is worth thought. 3. Matilda No More started at big odds when placed on debut at Wellington and another forward showing is on the cards.

How to play it: Jolly Good Fellow WIN.

Race 3 - 1:45PM KENNARDS HIRE ORANGE BM58 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Pleasurize has only had two starts and has won each of them impressively. She led and won by a big margin at Moruya on debut and then fought to the line well to score at Goulburn. She’s drawn well here and can go on with the job. 5. Cumnock resumes here after a trial win and had solid Highway form at the end of his last campaign. 8. Dame Annie ran well when resuming with a second at Muswellbrook, while 10. Itszarbaby won well at this track last time out and warrants respect.

How to play it: Pleasurize WIN.

Race 4 - 2:20PM SABIN SUBEDI CUP DAY SHOWCASE SPRINT (1000 METRES)

2. Extravagent Lad won at Gundagai and Queanbeyan last campaign before following a third at Mudgee with a third at Randwick and then being spelled. He resumes here and is a two-time winner first-up. 1. Pokerjack performed well in a number of city grade races last campaign and resumes here after a strong Goulburn trial win. 3. Crop Duster won at Newcastle before being spelled and can sprint well fresh in this. 5. Wilbury won as favourite here two starts ago and can show up if he can run up to that.

How to play it: Extravagent Lad WIN.

Race 5 - 2:55PM THE OPHIR HOTEL BM66 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

11. Exotic Dancer has won two of her four starts and resumes here after a recent trial win a Warwick Farm. She won on the Acton track at Canberra on debut and hasn’t raced since finishing fourth at this track back in October. 4. Plenitude wasn’t too far away when resuming with a last at Newcastle and then finished fourth in the WRA Country Championships at Coonamble. 9. Miss Emma hasn’t been too far away in three runs since joining a new stable and she warrants thought, while 10. Onyspeed was midfield last time out and has place claims.

How to play it: Exotic Dancer WIN.

Race 6 - 3:35PM ON-TRAC AG CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Written Gold won well at Wyong on debut and has performed well enough in both runs since then when not beaten far despite being unplaced in each. He gets his chance to bounce back to winning form here. 4. Crown Legend has been placed in his latest two starts and can figure in the money again. 5. Feimazuo was a Dubbo winner in February and has since been placed in two runs at this track. 10. Tulipwood followed a Dubbo win at her second start with a last start third on the Beaumont track at Newcastle.

How to play it: Written Gold WIN.

Race 7 - 4:15PM PIRTEK ORANGE - ORANGE GOLD CUP (2100 METRES)

***BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY***

1. Aimpoint is racing as well as ever and comes into this on the back of a strong victory in the Wellington Cup. He also won the Quirindi Cup four starts ago and was placed at Eagle Farm before the Wellington success. The step up in distance here should suit and he can play a part in the finish again. 3. Campaldino has had two runs back from a spell and finished second in each of them on the Kensington track at Randwick. That form should hold up here. 2. Rematch is a handy performer with a good record and should not be underestimated. 4. Steel Blaze is third-up from a spell and ready to peak.

How to play it: Aimpoint EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:55PM ORANGE MOTOR GROUP BM58 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

8. Goodnight Barlow justified favouritism to score a victory at the Sapphire Coast two starts ago and then followed that up with a last start sixth at Canberra. This is easier and he can bounce back to winning form. 1. Extravagant Choice raced on the speed and did the job well to score at the Sapphire Coast when last produced and he can take running down again. 11. One More Thing hasn’t been too far away in his latest two runs and can make an impact here without surprising. 12. Rich Street won well at Coonamble two starts ago and ran well again when a last start placegetter at Wellington.

How to play it: Goodnight Barlow WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (1) Jolly Good Fellow.
Race 4 (2) Extravagent Lad.

Best Value:
Race 7 (1) Aimpoint.
