John Schell's Tips For Nowra (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:35PM BERIHURIKARI COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

2. Ken’Ker has had two runs back from a spell and has finished second in each of them. He has raced on the speed in each of those Moruya efforts and while he was beaten as an odds-on favourite last time out, the run was still sound.

Dangers: 8. Outback Angel has performed well in both runs to date when finishing second in each of them. She has drawn awkwardly here but must be respected on what she’s shown thus far. 1. Big Ray has performed well in his only trial and has claims, while 3. Lake Hume looks the best of the rest.

How to play it: Ken’Ker WIN.

Race 2 - 2:10PM TURFCO EDDIE LATTA MEMORIAL - CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Santorini Sun was a strong winner at Moruya two starts ago then hit the line well at the same track last time out when finishing second. She’s a consistent mare and has drawn to advantage here in barrier three.

Dangers: 4. Discreet Miss is resuming from a spell in this on the back of some solid form last campaign. She looked good winning a barrier trial at Moruya leading into this return to racing and is deserving of plenty of respect. 3. Aleia is resuming for a new stable here and a bold showing is on the cards, while 1. Man Of Reign could show up in the placings without surprising.

How to play it: Santorini Sun WIN.

Race 3 - 2:45PM MICHAEL "MICK" LOCKE MEMORIAL BM58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Deep Fury had been racing well with a string of placings at Nowra, Kembla Grange and Goulburn, before missing a place as favourite at Cootamundra at his latest start when finishing fourth. He was far from disgraced in that when beaten just on two lengths, and this race looks well within his grasp.

Dangers: 2. A Silvery Warrior has won one race from 10 starts, and while his form is a bit patchy, he has the talent to show up in this. 4. Face The Day won at this track last time out and can be thereabouts again, while 5. Man Of Mine has been racing well and has claims here.

How to play it: Deep Fury WIN.

Race 4 - 3:25PM BEDE MURRAY MEMORIAL BM58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Stasera was a winner at Goulburn earlier in the year before being spelled. She resumed this campaign with a last placed finish in a small field on the Beaumont track at Newcastle, but wasn’t beaten too far. Stasera has since been placed in two runs at this track and then finished a close second at Goulburn when she led the field up. She’ll give her rivals plenty to chase here.

Dangers: 2. Disoney has been midfield in recent runs and can be in the thick of things here without surprising. 5. Ballistic Therapy won two in a row at Moruya before finishing fourth there last time out. She is racing well enough to be rated a place chance again here. 10. Weekend Affair was placed two starts ago and could be thereabouts again with a repeat of that.

How to play it: Stasera WIN.

Race 5 - 4:00PM AIS CERTIFIERS MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

10. Shamus Rocks has been fitted for his debut here with three recent barrier trials on top of the two that he had earlier this year. The latest trials have all been sound efforts, and he has drawn well in this. Expect a bold performance.

Dangers: 3. Separatist is a lightly raced gelding that disappointed last time out but wasn’t disgraced in his runs before that. He can improve sharply in this. 4. Atomic Forty Seven has performed well in each of his three starts either side of a spell and only needs to run up to those efforts to be a chance in this. 11. Sir Maurice wasn’t beaten far on debut at big odds and is an improver in this.

How to play it: Shamus Rocks EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 4:39PM CKB CIVIL MOLLYMOOK CUP - BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

6. Charlie Foxtrot has looked good leading throughout to score at his latest two starts at Bathurst. He’s drawn a shade awkwardly in this but expect him to push forward again and take plenty of running down. He has been placed in a further four of his 12 starts, so he is rarely far from the action.

Dangers: 7. Mad Darcey was in front until the shadows of the post when finishing second at Goulburn last time out. A repeat of that effort would have him right in the thick of things in this. 5. Titan Star wasn’t beaten far at Canberra last time out and should be in the finish again here. 4. Hasty Duchess is handy on her day and can sneak into the placings without surprising.

How to play it: Charlie Foxtrot WIN.

Race 7 - 5:14PM BROUGHTON LANDSCAPES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

10. Jamacri is on debut here for the Bjorn Baker stable and has had two barrier trials in preparation. She won her initial trial at Hawkesbury before finishing second in a Rosehill hitout. Jamacri has drawn ideally in barrier one here and is capable of starting her career with a victory.

Dangers: 5. Lone Force has had three trials leading into this debut to racing, and he has looked good enough in each of them to be considered a serious chance. 1. Russian Rose wasn’t disgraced despite finishing unplaced when resuming at Goulburn. 8. Amphora has had plenty of trial experience to be readied for this debut and a forward showing is on the cards.

How to play it: Jamacri EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (2) Santorini Sun.
Race 3 (3) Deep Fury.

Best Value:
Race 7 (10) Jamacri.
