John Schell's Tips For Muswellbrook (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a soft track)

Race 1 - 12:20PM TWO RIVERS WINES COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1280 METRES):

8. Red Rags To Bulls has two trials before debuting with a solid second at Scone when hitting the line well. She’s drawn a good gate in this and should have derived benefit from the first start performance.

Dangers: 7. Read ‘Em And Weep was beaten less than a length when finishing fifth at Tamworth last time out and only needs to run up to that effort in order to be a leading chance in this. 4. Uncle Moonlight has only had two starts and has run well in each of them with a fourth and a third at Taree. That form looks solid for a race of this nature. 1. Kitsilano was safely held at Taree last time out but is capable of improving.

How to play it: Red Rags To Bulls WIN.

Race 2 - 12:55PM RACING AT MUSWELLBROOK 2YO HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

3. Bullfighter is on debut for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable and comes into this on the back of two barrier trials which have resulted in a second at Hawkesbury and a win at Randwick. He’s a well-bred colt that has drawn ideally and is primed to run well.

Dangers: 4. Firework has had two trials leading into this debut. He won the latest of them at Wyong by a big margin and is bound to run well here despite the wide barrier. 5. Paralia has had four trials in preparation for this debut and he has shown enough talent in those to be rated a top chance here. 6. Pride To Follow won her only start when lining up at Scone and there’s no reason she can’t go on with the job.

How to play it: Bullfighter WIN.

Race 3 - 1:35PM KOSCIUSZKO TICKETS ON SALE NOW 3YO&UP MAIDEN (1000 METRES):

6. Lady Ichikawa had three starts late last year and finished third behind Genzano in the latest of them at Scone before being spelled. She’s had a trial leading into this return to racing and should strip better for that hitout. She finds a nice race here to be able to break through with a win.

Dangers: 12. Vercelli debuted at Tamworth in December and ran well enough when finishing fourth. She resumes here having had a recent trial and should sprint well fresh. 10. Sizzling Tale has finished fourth in her latest two starts at Hawkesbury and a repeat of those runs would give her a chance in this. 9. Ranhita has been thereabouts in three runs since resuming from a spell and another forward showing is on the cards.

How to play it: Lady Ichikawa WIN.

Race 4 - 2:10PM THE REMINGTON MUSWELLBROOK CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1450 METRES):

4. Scalextrics has looked good when racing on the speed to win his latest two starts at Goulburn and Nowra. He’s had a tick over trial since then to be kept up to the mark for this assignment and he should again race in a forward position from a good barrier and take plenty of beating.

Dangers: 1. Bangetta did the job well to score a last start win at this track and she has the ability to figure prominently again. 2. Tartana has won two of her last four starts and is racing well enough to give this a shake if she holds that form. 3. Fiorsum Fred won her two starts ago and ran well again when a last start second at Tamworth.

How to play it: Scalextrics WIN.

Race 5 - 2:45PM MUSWELLBROOK STEEL SUPPLIES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1450 METRES):

9. Rampazetto showed improvement at his second start when finishing fourth at Hawkesbury. If he can run up to that effort here then he should take plenty of holding out.

Dangers: 5. Bertie was placed in a couple of runs at Wyong and Newcastle before finishing fourth in each of his latest two runs in provincial grade. He gets his chance in this company. 10. Jed was placed at Dubbo two starts ago, then was midfield at the same track last time out. 5. Tarrant County wasn’t beaten far at Scone on debut and could be placed here without surprising.

How to play it: Rampazetto WIN.

Race 6 - 3:20PM BENGALLA CUP DAY 28 JULY 2024 CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

2. Willingale resumed from a spell with a solid effort when finishing third at Scone. She backed that up at Scone last time out when she hit the line hard from back in the field to finish a close-up second.

Dangers: 4. Hawkwind finished second in her first two starts late last year, then broke through to score a maiden win at Gosford before being spelled. She resumes here and was placed in a recent trial. 8. No Second Thoughts was a winner at Nowra at the end of last year and finished fourth at Orange before being spelled. She resumes here on the back of two trials. 7. In My Dreams was a maiden winner at this track three starts ago, and has since fourth and third at Scone and Wyong.

How to play it: Willingale WIN.

Race 7 - 3:55PM HORSEPOWER BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1280 METRES):

4. Consenza has had two runs since resuming from a spell and has looked good in each of them when finishing third at Scone and fourth at Tamworth. She’s drawn well here and has the ability to give this a shake.

Dangers: 7. Miss Cartel battled on well when finishing second at Hawkesbury when resuming from a spell, and she has since found winning form having scored at Scone and then at Taree in her latest two starts. She should give plenty of cheek again. 6. Kennedy Choice is resuming from a long spell but has shown talent in his career and has had a trial in preparation for this return to racing. 11. Foolish comes into this on the back of a last start second at this track and has place claims again.

How to play it: Consenza EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:35PM TAB.COM.AU COUNTRY BOOSTED BM 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

4. Robarge was racing in good form in March and April when scoring a couple wins on end at Taree and Tuncurry. She has since been midfield and then down the track at Taree, and while they were below her best, she is capable of bouncing back in this.

Dangers: 1. Cupid’s Kiss has won two of her last four starts, with both victories being at Taree. She ran third and second in the other two runs, with both of them also at Taree. She has claims if she runs up to those recent efforts. 3. Sunday Bell won over 900m at Scone two starts ago and followed that up with a second at Gunnedah. He is racing well enough to give this a shake. 7. Simply Better scored in solid style at Wellington two starts ago, and since then ran well when third at Narromine when she was last produced.

How to play it: Robarge EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (3) Bullfighter.
Race 7 (4) Consenza.

Best Value:
Race 8 (4) Robarge.
