John Schell's Tips For Murwillumbah (Friday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a heavy track)

Race 1 - 12:15PM OATEN'S CASINO 2YO SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1010 METRES):

2. Petticoat looked good in a trial before debuting with an impressive victory at Newcastle on a soft track. She followed that up with a solid effort in an Eagle Farm event and has been kept fresh for this event. She’s drawn the rails here and should take a power of beating.

Dangers: 3. Scion has only had two starts and has been placed in each of them at Grafton. He only needs to run up to those efforts to be rated a leading contender in this. 7. Shamadan has had two trials leading into this debut and has drawn well with Ben Looker taking the ride. 1. Spicy Duck was a debut winner at Ipswich and ran fifth at his only other start before winning a recent Deagon trial.

How to play it: Petticoat WIN.

Race 2 - 12:50PM RURAL IRRIGATION SUPPLIES BM 58 HCP (2020 METRES):

6. Mana Combat was narrowly beaten when finishing second at Grafton two starts ago, then finished third when last produced. This looks an open race and he should be prominent.

Dangers: 5. I’mtimmyzou ran third two starts ago in the same race Mana Combat comes out of. He then led when down the track at Grafton last time out but can improve here. 7. Without A Doubt has been racing well and comes into this on the back of a last start win at Grafton. She should run well here. 3. Giddy Gan’s Joy took on much stronger grade at the Sunshine Coast last time out and will find this more to her liking.

How to play it: Mana Combat WIN.

R3 - 1:25PM CASINO FOOD CO-OP CASINO SHOWCASE FLYING OPEN HCP (1100 M):

2. Easy Single resumed from a spell with a last placing at Doomben, then followed that up with a slightly better fourth on the Gold Coast Polytrack. He’s talented on his day and has a good overall record.

Dangers: 6. Brave Warrior was placed in his latest three starts before a spell and only needs to run up to those efforts to be rated a leading chance here on the back of a recent trial win. 7. Galbalan is resuming and has shown his share of ability. He should perform well against these. 3. Coat Of Arms has been placed in each of his latest four starts and should figure in the money again here.

How to play it: Easy Single WIN.

Race 4 - 2:05PM RICHMOND VALLEY MEATS MAIDEN HCP (1550 METRES):

1. More Elements has had two runs back from a spell and has performed well in each of them. He resumed with a fifth at Grafton, before leading and battling on well for a last start second at the same track. He should be primed to peak in this.

Dangers: 2. Casebolt finished fifth in the same race More Elements contested last time out and can make an impact again in this with a repeat of that effort. 3. Minister Garrett also comes out of the same race, having finished 10th when last produced. He can improve in this. 11. Three Graces ran fourth at Beaudesert at her second run back from a spell and, despite being a maiden, she can figure in the money here without surprising.

How to play it: More Elements WIN.

Race 5 - 2:40PM WAL'S CONCRETING SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES):

4. Impendor has only had four starts and has finished second in each of them. He resumed with a minor placing at Ipswich and is primed to break through with a victory in this.

Dangers: 12. Tapering was big odds when running second at Grafton two starts ago. 2. Cherbourg has been placed in its latest three starts and could run into the minor money again here, while 9. Game Star has place claims.

How to play it: Impendor WIN.

Race 6 - 3:20PM JUST BRAKES & EXHAUST C3 HANDICAP (1550 METRES):

8. Daedalus looked good when resuming from a spell with an Ipswich win at double figure odds, and he followed that up with a third at Beaudesert when again at good odds. He is set to give this a shake on the back of that form.

Dangers: 5. Introvert has had two runs back from a long spell and has been midfield or a touch worse in each of them. He should be ready to peak now and should not be underestimated. 2. Spill The Secret was a winner at Grafton three starts ago and has the talent to show up if he runs up to that effort. 3. Ocean Shores won at Lismore in December and ran well when fourth at Ballina in January. He’s fresh for this and should run well.

How to play it: Daedalus EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 3:55PM CASINO RSM CLUB BEEF WEEK CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1550 METRES):

2. Bean Foggy is a handy performer which had been racing well before scoring at Eagle Farm three starts ago. His latest two runs have been good, including a last start second at Eagle Farm behind Porky.

Dangers: 1. Avenue Of Stars won a couple on end at Gatton and Grafton before failing in tougher grade at Eagle Farm. This looks more to his liking. 8. Butch’N’Bugs wasn’t beaten far when second at Ipswich when last produced and this looks a race in which he can figure prominently. 5. Five Crowns was a winner at Doomben three starts ago on a soft track and has solid wet form

How to play it: Bean Foggy WIN.

Race 8 - 4:35PM CHARCOAL INN & BOTTLE SHOP BM 58 HCP (1200 METRES):

3. North Of Eli is a winner of two of eleven starts and comes into this on the back of three runs at Eagle Farm. He was fifth in his first two runs back from a spell and ran 12th last time out against much tougher grade. This looks an easier task for him.

Dangers: 2. Critical Time won well at Grafton when last produced and only needs to run up to that in order to be hard to beat again, while 9. Boulanger wasn’t beaten far at Grafton last time out and has a solid record. 8. Hardley Grey is resuming from a spell and could sprint well fresh.

How to play it: North Of Eli WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 7 (2) Bean Foggy.
Race 8 (3) North Of Eli.

Best Value:
Race 6 (8) Daedalus.
