John Schell's Tips For Murwillumbah (Friday)

By John Schell

Race 1 - 12:35PM TOOHEYS NEW TYGALGAH CUP (2020 METRES):

1. Mirann is from the form stable of trainer Matthew Dunn and he will find this easier than his latest two starts, the latest in which he finished fourth at Eagle Farm in Saturday grade. He is drawn to get the run of the race from barrier one and the distance poses no problems.

Dangers: 5. A Deel Of Humour wasn’t disgraced at Eagle Farm two starts ago then backed that up with a solid second at Coffs Harbour. A repeat of that would bring him into contention here. 4. Savvy Lad has been thereabouts in his three most recent runs and could figure in the placings again. 2. Eiger has been down on form of late but is more than capable on his day.

How to play it: Mirann WIN.

Race 2 - 1:10PM CHG INTEGRATED WEALTH COUNTRY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

2. Fairway Choice is on debut for trainer David McColm and comes into this having won a Deagon barrier trial when having his second hitout. Fairway Choice hasn’t struck the toughest maiden here and has James Orman to ride from a good alley.

Dangers: 6. Texas Fireball was midfield in an Ipswich event earlier this year and resumes here in a winnable race. 4. Rocky Rogue resumed with a solid fourth at Casino and has place claims here, while 3. Kirsten has been placed in her last two starts.

How to play it: Fairway Choice WIN.

Race 3 - 1:45PM GOSELS BUS SERVICE COUNTRY BM 58 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

7. Playgirl did the job well to score at Casino last time out, albeit by a narrow margin. She has drawn wide in this and will need some luck but has upside and can go on with the job.

Dangers: 6. Tread Softly is ready to peak now having had three runs back from a spell. She has the advantage of barrier one. 5. Supidoman has shown enough in his seven-start career to suggest he can figure prominently against these, while 2. Tigertude is better on rain affected tracks but is not out of this.

How to play it: Playgirl WIN.

Race 4 - 2:25PM TAB IT'S ON MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE (1550 METRES):

3. I Am Good At This has had two runs back from a lengthy spell and has figured in the placings in each of them at Lismore and Ipswich. He should be cherry ripe for this assignment.

Dangers: 4. Matsuyama is a stablemate of I Am Good At This and strips fitter for a resuming fourth at Ballina. 5. Nassau County is capable of showing sharp improvement here, as is also the case with 7. Word From Above.

How to play it: I Am Good At This WIN.

Race 5 - 3:05PM OATLEY WINES CLASS 2 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1550 METRES):

6. Daedalus doesn’t win out of turn but his form has been solid of late with the exception of a failure at Grafton two starts ago. He ran home well for a last start second at Coffs Harbour and can figure prominently again here at his best.

Dangers: 1. Al Ash Lad and 2. Desert Mist are stablemates of Daedalus, being in the Matthew Dunn stable, and both have been running well enough in their recent starts to be rated chances in this. 3. Enterprise Jewel could figure in the placings without surprising.

How to play it: Daedalus EACH WAY.

R6 - 3:40PM BOUTIQUE THOROUGHBREDS MURWILLUMBAH NEWMARKET HCP (1200 M):

7. Miss Super was resuming from a spell when running well at Coffs Harbour to finish third last time out. She will be better for the run and has won twice when second-up from a break.

Dangers: 6. Oakfield Twilight ran well at his resuming run at the Sunshine Coast and can figure here, while 3. Greyworm is classy on his day and can show up here if at his best. 1. Starspangled Rodeo is resuming here and can improve on a disappointing campaign last time in work.

How to play it: Miss Super WIN.

R7 - 4:15PM RIVERVIEW HOTEL *BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY* MURWILL CUP (1550 M):

8. Wategos resumed from a spell with a fourth at Randwick and since then he has been strong in winning twice at Rosehill, the latest by a big margin over King Of Naples. Wategos has a wide gate to contend with here and steps up in distance, but he should press forward and prove hard to run down.

Dangers: 9. Eaglemont won a TAB Highway at Rosehill two starts back before finishing midfield at Eagle Far when beaten just over two lengths. 5. Battleton is a stablemate of Wategos and comes into this having run well in the Coffs Harbour Cup. 2. Kinloch has been placed in his last three starts at Eagle Farm and only needs to hold that form to be rated a good hope in this.

How to play it: Wategos WIN.

Race 8 - 4:55PM WILLIAMS GROUP AUSTRALIA C1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

3. Shaquila is from the powerful Matthew Dunn stable and cannot be discounted after a last start midfield Eagle Farm effort. A couple of key scratchings brings him right into contention.

Dangers: 1. Dubai Nights has raced well in both runs back from a spell and could sneak into the placings again. 7. Super Sprocket and 12. Steal The Field have sound place claims, while 6. Ellie’s Dream can be thereabouts without surprising.

How to play it: Shaquila WIN.
