John Schell's Tips For Mudgee (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:25PM ORIENTAL TAVERN MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

13. Ritarachele was heavily backed when making her debut at Dubbo last month. She wasn’t disgraced when finishing midfield in that event and should be better for the experience. She’s drawn wide here but has the talent to overcome that.

Dangers: 2. Egyptologist was resuming from a spell for a new stable when finishing second at Dubbo as favourite, and he only needs to repeat that performance in order to be a leading contender here. 4. More Voltage wasn’t beaten far when seventh at Hawkesbury at his latest outing, and that form should hold up well in this. 11. Sashabella ran home well when third at Forbes at her last start, and she can figure again if she runs up to that effort.

How to play it: Ritarachele EACH WAY.

Race 2 - 2:00PM MUDGEE SOLDIERS CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

7. Scathingly had two trials before debuting at Scone and running home well to finish fourth as favourite. He looks to have some ability and can figure prominently if the breaks go his way.

Dangers: 2. Kimberley Moon is a mare on debut and she’s had three trials in preparation, winning the latest two at Tamworth. She is primed to run well and should figure in the finish. 1. Where’stheprofit is also on debut and won a trial at Scone leading into this. He’s drawn the inside barrier and can be thereabouts. 5. Point Loma ran last at Kembla Grange on debut in April, and then had a stable change. He’s had two trials at Tamworth, and won the latest of them, indicating he is ready to run well fresh here.

How to play it: Scathingly WIN.

Race 3 - 2:35PM XXXX ULTRA HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX WALKER BM58 (2000 METRES)

2. Mazita resumed from a spell with an eighth at this track when not beaten too far. He followed that up with an eighth at Wyong when racing on the speed and weakening, only to show improvement when third at Muswellbrook when last produced. He steps up in distance in this and has drawn to get the run of the race.

Dangers: 4. Rapid Impact was a narrow winner at Muswellbrook, then finished second at this track before tackling provincial grade at his latest two startswhen not disgraced in either of them. He can make an impact here. 1. Raiding bolted in at Dubbo three starts ago, then followed a second at Gunnedah with a last start failure at Tamworth. She can figure here if she can bounce back to her best. 3. Zounile has looked good winning each of her latest two starts, and she can give plenty of cheek again.

How to play it: Mazita WIN.

Race 4 - 3:15PM KELLY'S IRISH PUB BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. No Second Thoughts has a good record with a win and five placings to her name from just seven starts. She ran second in her first two runs back from a spell at Muswellbrook and Bathurst, and then followed a third at Nowra with another third at Goulburn last time out when she raced on the speed and battled on well. She should take up a prominent position again here and take plenty of beating.

Dangers: 5. Who Ever Thought was a winner at Scone three starts ago, and comes into this on the back of a midfield effort in Highway grade at Rosehill. His form is solid for a race like this. 7. Canadian Express contested the same race as No Second Thoughts last time out and while he disappointed in that, he has shown enough talent in his career to be a chance here if he’s anywhere near his best. 6. Awaygoesthebunny finished alongside Who Ever Thought in Highway company at Rosehill last time out and can figure here with a repeat of that.

How to play it: No Second Thoughts WIN.

Race 5 - 3:50PM WOOLPACK HOTEL BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Touch Of Navy has been racing in great form, having won three of his last five starts. He ran well when finishing third at Scone at his latest start, and that followed two victories at Muswellbrook and Dubbo. The apprentice claim will assist Touch Of Navy, and he can give his rivals plenty to chase down again.

Dangers: 2. Aimpoint ran home well to score at Dubbo three starts ago, and since followed a last at Canterbury with a third at Coffs Harbour. He is a winner at this track and warrants respect in this. 3. The Hungarian has been midfield behind Touch Of Navy in his latest two starts and can figure prominently now he’s had those runs under his belt. 4. Dream Game won a couple on end at Wellington and Dubbo, before following a third behind Touch Of Navy at Dubbo with a fourth in the Moree Cup. He has claims on the strength of that form.

How to play it: Touch Of Navy WIN.

Race 6 - 4:25PM XXXX MUDGEE MUG CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Rock Hard Love is a well bred four-year-old and has shown ability in his three-start career. He ran third at Newcastle on debut in February, then scored by a narrow margin at Gosford. He was spelled after a solid fourth at Warwick Farm behind McHale and has had two solid trials in preparation for this return to racing.

Dangers: 7. News Bound debuted with a win at Tamworth in January and was spelled following that impressive victory as favourite. She has had a solid trial leading into this resuming run and only needs to overcome a wide alley in order to be competitive. 4. Sanzeno was a winner at this track in July, and since then followed a second at Gunnedah with a 10th at Dubbo. He can improve on the latest effort here. 3. Hell Of A Show has been down the track in two recent Hawkesbury runs, but is capable of lifting on those efforts.

How to play it: Rock Hard Love WIN.

Race 7 - 5:00PM FEDERAL HOTEL BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Sammiballerina resumed from a spell with a down the track effort in a Randwick Highway event, but will find this much easier. She’s drawn the rails and a sharp improvement is on the cards.

Dangers: 6. Pyromania has been racing well with a win and three placings from his last six starts. He is rarely far from the action and can run boldly again in this company. 7. Hit The Rim ran third at Gilgandra three starts ago, and has since finished fourth in each of his two subsequent runs. That form looks food enough for him to be rated an each-way chance here. 2. Burraneer Buoy resumed from a spell at Tamworth at his latest start and he fought on strongly to score a good win. He’s drawn wide here but can make an impact again.

How to play it: Sammiballerina WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 5 (1) Touch Of Navy.
Race 6 (1) Rock Hard Love.

Best Value:
Race 1 (13) Ritarachele.
