John Schell's Tips For Moruya (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 1:15PM KINGS MAINTENANCE GROUP MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

6. Sassen wasn’t beaten far when finishing third in a barrier trial. This looks a race that is well within her grasp.

Dangers: 1. Peruno is a handy galloper in this grade that should be thereabouts. She’s a well-bred mare that is deserving of respect in this. 3. Our Patino is on debut and has had a trial in preparation for this. 7. Sassy Missile has also had a trial to prepare for this debut ant warrants respect.

How to play it: Sassen WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM CAMERONS HARDWARE CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

3. Tolima led throughout and did the job well to score at the Sapphire Coast at her latest start. She battled on well to the line and a repeat of that would have her in the thick of things again in this.

Dangers: 1. Manzoni is talented at best and despite being down the track last time out at Kembla Grange, he has the ability to figure prominently in this. 2. Your Not The Boss won well at Canberra last time out and is worth some thought again, while 6. Feng is a last start winner in easier grade.

How to play it: Tolima WIN.

Race 3 - 2:25PM STITCHING SISTERS NAROOMA COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN (1650M)

8. Fudge ran the best race of her career when finishing second at the Sapphire Coast at her latest start. She is only lightly raced and she should figure prominently again.

Dangers: 9. Hotlips Houlihan was placed at Nowra and can figure again with a repeat effort. 4. Guard is yet to break through but is far from the worst. 6. Flying Jewel was placed last time out and is worth some thought again.

How to play it: Fudge WIN.

Race 4 - 3:00PM HARCOURTS BATEMANS BAY CHRISTMAS CUP BM58 HANDICAP (1425M)

4. Breakaway Week is a last start Wagga winner that has a solid overall record and warrants plenty of respect in this. She’s been placed in 10 of her 17 starts and she should be in the thick of things again here.

Dangers: 1. Mr Metrics was a winner at Albury two starts ago and has claims with a repeat of that. 2. Twig hasn’t been disgraced of late in tougher grade. 5. Captain Corelli has place claims.

How to play it: Breakaway Week WIN.

Race 5 - 3:40PM DALMENY IGA AND LIQUOR NAROOMA TOWN PLATE (1010 METRES)

8. Merc was resuming from spell when he settled back in the field and hit the line well to finish third at the Sapphire Coast at his latest start. He will strip fitter for this and looms as a leading chance here.

Dangers: 2. Incentive looked the goods when leading throughout to score last time out. He is clearly the one to beat again here. 1. Kattegat can figure in the placings, while 5. King Gutho is resuming from a spell and can be in the money without surprising.

How to play it: Merc WIN.

Race 6 - 4:20PM CLEANAWAY COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

1. Denarau tackled metropolitan class last time out and held on well enough at Warwick Farm despite finishing down the track. Her trainer has a handy record and she can figure prominently here with a similar display.

Dangers: 3. Les Goh was favourite at the Sapphire Coast last time out and can improve here. 5. Two Aye hasn’t been too far away of late and is worth thought again. 6. Monomakh could sneak into the placings without surprising.

How to play it: Denarau WIN.

Race 7 - 5:00PM ADVANCED MODULAR RAILINGS NAROOMA CUP (1300 METRES)

3. One Aye is a handy performer which tackled city grade earlier this year and while she didn’t figure, she was far from disgraced. She was close-up when finishing fourth at Randwick two starts ago and a repeat of that effort would have her hard to beat again against these.

Dangers: 1. Miss Ostend has class on her side and she can show up. 4. Napoleon Solo has talent on his day and is not out of this. 7. Stratum Pride is a handy performer at best and can figure in the placings without surprising.

How to play it: One Aye WIN.

Race 8 - 5:35PM MITRE 10 NAROOMA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1010 METRES)

11. Quire has been racing well of late without winning. The mare finished second at Nowra five starts ago and has since not been beaten more than 2.7 lengths in any of her starts. She has drawn in the inside gate in this event and warrants plenty of thought against these.

Dangers: 5. Must has been racing well in Queensland and only needs to maintain that sort of form to be a chance again in this. 3. Forbes failed at this track last time out but is capable of improvement here. 2. Lord Remy is first-up from a spell here and a bold showing fresh is on the cards.

How to play it: Quire WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (6) Sassen.
Race 6 (1) Denarau.
Best Value:
Race 5 (8) Merc.
