John Schell's Tips For Moruya (Monday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:05PM KEITH DRYDEN MJC TRAINER OF THE YEAR MAIDEN (1310 METRES)

6. Chentileeno has had seven starts but has managed to figure in the minor placings in two of them. He was just behind them at Hawkesbury before being spelled, and resumed with a seventh at Kembla Grange when only beaten 2.7 lengths. He looks well placed here from the inside gate.

Dangers: 5. Astrogazer has had two trials and finished second in each of them. He’s drawn well here and looks to have the talent to make an impact in this. 8. London Star was midfield on debut at Wagga earlier in the year and she looks to have the talent to figure in this. 3. Levis Criminalibus wasn’t disgraced at Canberra on debut earlier in the year and since was safely held there before being spelled. He resumes here and is capable of sharp improvement.

How to play it: Chentileeno WIN.

Race 2 - 1:45PM RADIO GOULBURN MAIDEN HANDICAP (1020 METRES)

1. Amont is a former Hong Kong based galloper which is resuming after more than a year away from racing in this. He finished second in two of his seven starts in Hong Kong, and since returning to Australia he’s had two Randwick trials for a win and a fourth. He looks primed to run well fresh.

Dangers: 8. Dekadance had a solid trial at Goulburn in January, and then debuted with a third at Wagga last month. That was a solid effort and she should figure prominently here. 2. Reward For Eric has been placed in both starts either side of a spell and has led in each of them. He should give plenty of cheek again here. 3. Molotov resumes here on the back of a trial and was placed at the Sapphire Coast on debut.

How to play it: Amont WIN.

Race 3 - 2:20PM MARKEYS SADDLERY COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1435 METRES)

10. Achieve Perfection has only had one start and that resulted in an eighth of 10 at Queanbeyan on the back of a third in a trial at the same track. The gelding by Pierro has drawn ideally in gate two here, and the step up in distance should be to his liking.

Dangers: 7. Stand In Line was a last start placegetter at Goulburn. He’s been placed in two of six starts and is not out of this. 3. Easement comes into this on the back of a last start fourth and warrants some thought on that run, while 1. Apache Deel hasn’t been beaten far of late and is far from the worst here.

How to play it: Achieve Perfection EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 2:55PM SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS FOODS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1020 METRES)

8. Xspiritous is a lightly raced mare with just the two starts to her name. She ran third on debut at Wagga back in February, and followed that up with a victory at this track in March when leading all the way. She’s run well when a close-up second in a trial here leading into this resuming run and looks the one to beat.

Dangers: 2. Fourth Spargo has only had six starts for a win and four placings. She’s finished second in her latest two starts at Wyong and Muswellbrook and is a leading chance here. 7. Noble Serenade disappointed last time out be can improve, while 6. Chiky Chiky Mama has the talent to make an impact.

How to play it: Xspiritous WIN.

Race 5 - 3:35PM NICK HEYWOOD MJC JOCKEY OF THE YEAR BM58 HCP (1210 METRES)

2. Thoughtful is a promising son of So You Think which didn’t debut until late in his four-year-old season when scoring a dominant victory on a wet track at Goulburn. He had won a trial before that and raced on the speed on debut, which should again be the case from a good barrier in this.

Dangers: 5. Downtown’s Abbey finished last at Hawkesbury before being spelled but was placed at Wagga at her first two starts and then won at Canberra in April. She looks to have the talent to make an impact here. 4. Santorini Sun has been racing well without winning of late and warrants plenty of thought here, while 3. Burrowa was a winner at Nowra in June last year, then finished second at Kembla Grange in October before being spelled. He resumed with a down the track effort at Kembla Grange but could improve sharply in this.

How to play it: Thoughtful WIN.

Race 6 - 4:10PM RONNIE BUNDY MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1660 METRES)

2. Vaaroom was a winner at Canberra late last year then failed to fire in a Highway at Randwick before being spelled. He resumed on the Acton track at Canberra with a safely held effort, but since improved when third at Wagga.

Dangers: 4. Wonder Brahma is a last start Queanbeyan winner that is getting on but has a good overall record. He could show up in this without surprising. 5. Sebastian’s Flyer was placed in a couple of recent runs at this track before a last start near last effort at the Sapphire Coast. He can improve in this. 3. Spiritly finished second behind Wonder Brahma when last produced and is far from the worst here with a repeat of that.

How to play it: Varoom EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:45PM FELIX PEREON MJC HORSE OF THE YEAR BM66 HANDICAP (1435 METRES)

9. Aunt Roberta won a couple on end at Wyon last year over 2100m. She was unplaced in a couple of runs late last year over longer trips than this and was then spelled. She resumes here for a new stable and should be primed to sprint well fresh.

Dangers: 3. Best Intent is a well performed mare on her best form and has shown enough ability in her career to be rated one of the leading contenders in this. She ran well enough when fourth at Goulburn last time out. 6. Star Buyer ran well when third at Corowa when last produced and he only needs to run up to that to be rated a leading chance again here. 4. Chairman’s List battled on well enough when midfield at the Sapphire Coast last time out and could be placed here.

How to play it: Aunt Roberta EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (8) Xspiritous.
Race 5 (2) Thoughtful.

Best Value:
Race 7 (9) Aunt Roberta.
