John Schell's Tips For Lismore (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:00PM JOCKEYS CELEBRATION DAY 3/8/24 MAIDEN HANDICAP (1310 METRES)

3. High Class Roller has had five trials over a number of months and he comes into this on the back of a latest seventh of seven at Doomben. He is from a leading stable and this looks a nice race for him to start his career in.

Dangers: 1. Rodeo Dealer has had three runs back from a break and finished second in the first of them at Kempsey. He was since midfield at Ballina at Grafton and can show up here with a repeat of those. 2. Back On De Quo has been placed in two of his five starts and this looks within his capabilities. 4. Millennium Prayer was placed at Kempsey two starts ago, then was down the track at Grafton when last produced. He can improve in this.

How to play it: High Class Roller WIN.

Race 2 - 12:40PM VIVA RACING MAIDEN PLATE (1526 METRES)

1. Clubhouse has been placed in six of his 13 starts and followed three straight placings with a last start fifth at Grafton. He’s drawn the inside gate in this and he can be in a prominent position from the outset.

Dangers: 3. Gold Prince is yet to be placed from six starts but has been just behind the placings in his latest two starts. He can figure here without surprising. 7. Viking Blood was midfield in city grade at Doomben at his latest start and while he’s had plenty of chances, he looks to have solid claims against this field. 13. Tosen Dreamer hit the line well when second at Grafton at her last start and she only needs to run up to that to be rated a leading chance here.

How to play it: Clubhouse WIN.

Race 3 - 1:20PM WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER SERVICE MAIDEN PLATE (1110 METRES)

12. Rainbow Lass had looked good in a couple of trials before debuting with a fifth at Grafton when beaten less than one length. She’s drawn the fence here and has the advantage of an apprentice allowance.

Dangers: 5. Amnesia is a former John O’Shea trained galloper having her first start for a new stable and comes into this on the back of a Gold Coast trial win. She’s shown enough ability in her career to be rated a leading contender here. 4. Rock Composer wasn’t beaten far when placed at Murwillumbah at his latest start and he is lightly raced with plenty of potential. 1. He’s Poplar was having his first trial for a new stable when fourth at Ballina and he makes his race debut here. A bold showing is on the cards.

How to play it: Rainbow Lass WIN.

Race 4 - 2:00PM SOMERVILLE LAUNDRY LOMAX BM58 HANDICAP (1410 METRES)

1. Nickelback wasn’t beaten far in a couple of Eagle Farm runs back in April and then went for a break. He resumed at Grafton last time out and while he was beaten by a fair margin, he did a good job to finish third.

Dangers: 10. Manic Light has won two of 12 starts and led throughout to score at Grafton in April. He has the talent to figure against these. 11. Hardley Grey hit the line well enough for a last start third at Grafton and can run into the money again here, while 13. Boulanger had finished fifth in his latest two starts at Grafton and Ballina and should figure prominently again in this.

How to play it: Nickelback WIN.

Race 5 - 2:40PM OUR KIDS F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1210 METRES)

1. Alpine Lady was a winner at Kilcoy last month before running second at that track and then again at Warwick. She wasn’t beaten far when midfield at Kilcoy last time out and she’s drawn to get the run of the race.

Dangers: 4. Chockablock took on city grade at Doomben when last produced and that followed a Warwick victory. She has the talent to give this a shake again. 5. Hermanita resumed from a spell with a victory at Gatton and she followed that up with placings at Gatton and Ipswich in two of her three runs since then. 6. Montana Rising was spelled after winning at Port Macquarie last May and resumes here after a Grafton trial win.

How to play it: Alpine Lady WIN.

Race 6 - 3:20PM NEWTON DENNY CHAPELLE CG&E BM58 HANDICAP (1210 METRES)

1. Written Fame was a winner at this track back in January when hitting the line well. He has won two from seven and his other victory was an easy one at Murwillumbah. He’s been fitted for this return with two trials including a third at Doomben and a Gold Coast win.

Dangers: 4. Straya Pride was placed this track at his latest start and that followed a fifth at Grafton. He has the ability at his best to give this a shake. 5. Grey Effects resumed from a spell with a Murwillumbah success and then was close-up when placed at Beaudesert last time out. That form looks strong for this. 7. Monte Drifter was a Grafton winner three starts ago and then followed a Coffs Harbour failure on a heavy track with an improved Ipswich effort. He can be placed here.

How to play it: Written Fame WIN.

Race 7 - 4:00PM LISMORE WORKERS CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1526 METRES)

7. Highland Hill is resuming from a spell here for a new stable and has had two good trials in preparation. His Victorian form is solid enough to be rated one of the leading contenders in this field.

Dangers: 6. Embolden resumed from a long spell with a safely held effort at Ballina, and has a had a trial since then leading into this. He has shown enough ability to be rated as a chance here. 4. Explicable is a last start Ipswich winner and looks like he can figure again if he repeats that performance. 1. Stylised has had one run back from a spell for a new stable and is capable of a sharp improvement on his resuming effort.

How to play it: Highland Hill WIN.

Race 8 - 4:40PM TNR CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1110 METRES)

5. Supidoman was placed at Murwillumbah two starts ago and then followed that up with a game second at Grafton when racing on the speed and battling on well. He’s racing well enough to give this a shake.

Dangers: 1. Immortality resumed for a new stable on the back of two trials with a fourth at Grafton. He was safely held in that but this looks easier. 2. Jewels Statement won on debut at Ballina earlier in the year and then ran second at Grafton and Ballina before being spelled. She’s won a Grafton trial leading into this return and cab overcome a wide alley. 7. Super Jaie was a winner at Grafton back in February and was then spelled. He resumed with a fourth at Murwillumbah and then ran third at that track last time out. He could be placed here without surprising.

How to play it: Supidoman EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (12) Rainbow Lass.
Race 5 (1) Alpine Lady.

Best Value:
Race 8 (5) Supidoman.
