John Schell's Tips For Lismore Cup Day (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:34PM XXXX GOLD COUNTRY BOOSTED SHOWCASE MAIDEN (1526 METRES)

3. Max ‘O’ Max has only been placed in one of 15 starts and that was three starts ago when finishing second at Grafton. He’s been just behind the placings in two more Grafton runs since then and has the rails alley here. He gets his chance to break his maiden.

Dangers: 7. Three Graces has been placed in five of 16 starts and comes into this on the back of a last start second at Murwillumbah. She’s had a trial leading into this and is primed to run well. 2. Hudson’s Lenny followed three straight fourths with a third at this track when beaten narrowly. 1. Back To Black ran his best race yet when sixth last time out and could sneak into the placings.

How to play it: Max ‘O’ Max WIN.

Race 2 - 1:09PM OATENS CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2110 METRES)

4. Monte Kahuna did the job well to score a win at Tuncurry two starts ago when racing on the speed and fighting on too well. He followed that up with a fifth at Grafton He has the talent to bounce back to winning form

Dangers: 8. Perri Lass followed a second at Taree with a strong finishing victory at the same track in maiden grade. She finished fourth at Muswellbrook last time out when far from disgraced and is worth including among the main chances here. 9. Pleadeel was just behind the placings in a couple of runs before a close second at Doomben and then finishing seventh at the same track when last produced. She is racing well enough to give this a shake. 7. Backlit Beauty has finished fourth at the Sunshine Coast and Beaudesert at her latest two starts and can show up here with a repeat of those.

How to play it: Monte Kahuna EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 1:44PM O'BRIEN ELECTRICAL & PLUMBING BM82 HANDICAP (2110 METRES)

2. Classic Deel hit the line well to go down narrowly when second at Coffs Harbour two starts ago, then again ran home well to finish second at Doomben. She failed to fire at Doomben last time out but can bounce back in this.

Dangers: 5. I’mtimmyzou followed a second at Murwillumbah with a last start runaway win at this track by a big margin. He’s drawn the rails here and should give plenty of cheek. 3. Sheriff Cody won at Grafton three starts ago and has been close-up in both runs since then. He should run well again. 1. Mr French was placed at Casino at his first run for the new stable and has had a trial since a last start midfield effort at Doomben.

How to play it: Classic Deel WIN.

Race 4 - 2:19PM LISMORE WORKERS CLUB SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1210 METRES)

8. Quality Miss has finished second in three of seven starts and two of those placings have been in each run since resuming. She’s drawn to get the run of the race from barrier two.

Dangers: 12. Wheeper is on debut and has had three solid trials to suggest a strong showing is on the cards. 9. Airswing was midfield on debut at Eagle Farm in May and resumes here on the back of two good trials. 5. Crumpets ran well at her first start for the new stable and warrants respect.

How to play it: Quality Miss WIN.

Race 5 - 2:54PM BENNETT CONTRUCTIONS CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1210 METRES)

1. Immortality ran well in this region at his first two starts for the new stable, before failing at Doomben at his latest start. He can improve on that in this.

Dangers: 7. Wolf Dancer was racing well before being spelled and should be ready to go well fresh after a strong trial. 9. Chockablock ran second at Murwillumbah two starts ago and can improve on the last start Gold Coast effort in this company. 3. Lunar Eight has been racing well at the Gold Coast of late and should show up again if she runs up to those efforts.

How to play it: Immortality WIN.

Race 6 - 3:29PM GLOBAL LUBRICANTS UNTAMED SHOWCASE SPRINT (1210 METRES)

4. Majorelle has a great record with seven wins and six placings from 18 starts. He’s won two of three since resuming and did the job well to score here last time out.

Dangers: 5. Boncassie was back to her best when scoring at Coffs Harbour just over two weeks ago. She’s good at her best and should take plenty of running down. 6. Lady Wardell is a last start Murwillumbah winner that has a good record and should play a prominent part in the finish. 8. Andy is racing well and only needs to maintain his recent form to make an impact.

How to play it: Majorelle WIN.

Race 7 - 4:09PM RODNEY LEES CABINETMAKING LISMORE CUP (1526 METRES)

*BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY*

4. Flashing Steel is a well performed galloper from a leading stable and comes into this having finished third at Eagle Farm when last produced. He’s an on-pace runner that can push forward from a wide draw and he is a multiple city winner.

Dangers: 5. Menazzi has had four runs in Queensland since resuming from a spell and has run well in each of them when finishing third in each of them. He’s also an on-pace runner that has a wide gate to deal with. 6. Sizzling Gal did the job well to win at Doomben three starts ago and has finished second and fourth in two runs since. 9. Genetic Freak is a last start Ipswich winner that is talented.

How to play it: Flashing Steel EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:49PM PAK VENDING COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1310 METRES)

3. Guru Class had been racing well in a number of runs before making it win two from 22 starts when scoring narrowly as a well backed favourite at Grafton at her latest start. She’s drawn wide here but the apprentice allowance will help.

Dangers: 4. Desert Mist is resuming from a spell on the back of two barrier trials. He ran fifth at Grafton before being spelled and should sprint well fresh here. 13. Vetoed was beaten just over two lengths behind Guru Class at Grafton at her latest outing. She can show up in the minor money. 2. Super Jaie has looked good winning each of his latest two starts and should take beating again.

How to play it: Guru Class WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (8) Quality Miss.
Race 6 (4) Majorelle.

Best Value:
Race 7 (4) Flashing Steel.
