John Schell's Tips For Grafton (Wednesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 2:15PM REMEMBERING FRED SCHWINGHAMMER JACARANDA MAIDEN (1700M)

1. Libby was safely held at Armidale when on debut then ran an improved race when third at the same track. She since ran well when finishing second at Grafton and sticks at the same distance.

Dangers: 8. Yarra Princess hasn’t been disgraced in her recent runs and looms as a chance in this if anywhere near her best. 4. Righteous Brother had been racing well before being down the track when last produced at this track. He can improve here. 5. Sellinya was placed at Armidale two starts ago and is not out of this.

How to play it: Libby WIN.

Race 2 - 2:50PM REMEMBERING PAT MOY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Seymour Stars is a Cosmic Force filly making her debut here and she has had two trials in preparation. She ran seventh in the first of them back in July and then won the latest of them on October 22 at this track. She looks primed to run well in this.

Dangers: 9. Volare has been placed in one of five starts and comes into this on the back of a last start third at Taree. She has talent to give this a shake. 2. Sivo was a last start placegetter at Port Macquarie and a repeat of that would have him hard to hold out here. 3. Darling Take Care has run well in two recent trials and is not out of this.

How to play it: Seymour Stars WIN.

Race 3 - 3:25PM REMEMBERING WARREN TOZER SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

8. Ellro has had four starts and has been placed in two of them. He ran third in the latest of them at Gunnedah and was then spelled. She’s had two trials at Deagon since that last race start and has won each of them. She gets her chance to break through here from the good draw.

Dangers: 6. Crazy Mikki wasn’t far away when finishing fourth at Taree when last produced and a repeat of that would have her hard to hold out here. 5. Rockthemachine wasn’t beaten too far at this track last time out and is not out of this. 11. Classic Shriaz is on debut and looks set to run well here on debut.

How to play it: Ellro WIN.

Race 4 - 4:00PM JACARANDA CUP BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Single Touch had been racing well with a couple of minor placings before hitting the line well to score a strong last start win at this track two weeks ago. He can win again.

Dangers: 2. De Poet is a front runner that is never too far away from the action. He won at Port Macquarie two starts ago and wasn’t far away at Taree last time out when finishing third. 3. Hauraki Gulf comes out of the same race as De Poet and is not out of this, while 4. Lady Tulessa was a Ballina winner two starts ago and was placed here when last produced.

How to play it: Single Touch WIN.

Race 5 - 4:35PM HAPPY BIRTHDAY COBEY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1175 METRES)

6. Groovy Day debuted with a fifth here back in May and then followed that up with a win at Murwillumbah at her only other start when racing on the speed and doing the job well to score. She’s had two trials in preparation for this and should run well.

Dangers: 7. Thrownunderthebus broke her maiden when scoring a win at this track when last produced. She shows talent and is not out of this. 2. Spring Eagle has a bad winning record but has been placed every now and again and could be thereabouts again. 5. Fools Play has some solid form and is not out of this.

How to play it: Groovy Day WIN.

Race 6 - 5:10PM HAPPY 50TH DAMON SULLIVAN C1 & MAIDEN (2200 METRES)

2. Royal Rift made a move to race on the speed and battled to the line well enough to finish fifth when beaten less than two lengths. He only has the one win to his name but this isn’t overly hard and he can rack up a second victory.

Dangers: 4. Ya Love Her was a winner on the Polytrack at the Gold Coast two starts back and if he can run up to that he’ll be hard to hold out here. 1. Gangplank wasn’t beaten far last time out and can improve in this. 7. Memumza Diva wasn’t beaten far at this track when last produced and looks to have a leading chance again in this.

How to play it: Royal Rift WIN.

Race 7 - 5:45PM REMEMBERING DARRYL TAYLOR JACARANDA CROWN - F&M B58 (1600M)

5. Khamis created a big impression when scoring on debut at this track by a big margin. She backed that up with a solid enough second here two weeks ago as a short-priced favourite when she had her chance. She is talented and can bounce back in this.

Dangers: 1. Miss Shu has a handy record with two wins and four placings to her name. She’s drawn well here and is poised to run well. 2. Spiele was a Ballina winner two starts ago and wasn’t beaten far when midfield here last time out. 3. Maurizma hasn’t been far away in her latest two starts.

How to play it: Khamis WIN.

Race 8 - 6:20PM CRJC LIFE MEMBERS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

5. Intoxel raced on the speed and bolted clear late to score a dominant last start win at this track two weeks ago. She’s drawn awkwardly here but looks to have the ability to overcome that.

Dangers: 9. I Am Convincing has only won one race but he’s had a number of placings and looks ready to show up again here. He’s been down the track of late but can improve in this. 3. Hardley Grey has solid form to his name of late and should show up again, while 1. Silver Canvas hasn’t been far away of late and is not out of this.

How to play it: Intoxel WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (4) Seymour Stars.
Race 5 (6) Groovy Day.

Best Value:
Race 4 (5) Single Touch.
