John Schell's Tips For Grafton (Wednesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 2:05PM REMEMBERING GEOFFREY GILLETT JACARANDA MAIDEN (1700 METRES)

6. Keyless Go is only lightly raced for a six-year-old having had just the 12 starts. He’s had three starts for a new stable since relocating from Victoria and has been placed a couple of times on wet ground.

Dangers: 9. Sunyani had been racing well in a couple runs this preparation before finishing third here last time out. She should run well again with a repeat. 4. Tootsie has been thereabouts in all of he recent runs and she can be in the thick of things again. 1. Ottoman Empire was midfield here last time out but had finished second in his two previous runs. He warrants respect.

How to play it: Keyless Go EACH WAY.

Race 2 - 2:40PM REMEMBERING DARCY MCDONALD C1 & MAIDEN (2200 METRES)

5. Kristithegreat was having her third race start when she scored a strong win at this track last week over 1725m. She steps up to 2200m in this but isn’t opposed to an overly strong field. Kristithegreat has more upside than most of her rivals here and can go on with the job.

Dangers: 9. Chassagne was sound at the Sunshine Coast last time out and can figure again here without surprising. 2. Iberian Ruler is a last start Lismore winner with claims again. 4. Exhibitor has been racing well enough to be rated a place chance here.

How to play it: Kristithegreat WIN.

Race 3 - 3:15PM CRJC LIFE MEMBERS B66 - HEAT OF RISING STAR (1400M)

5. Velvet Haze has had four wins back from a spell and has a win and a couple of third placings to her name from those efforts. She was dominant on the Beaumont track at Newcastle two starts ago and a repeat of that would have her hard to hold out.

Dangers: 1. Kibosh was down the track at this track last time out but her form in city grade before that had been good enough to be a chance here. 4. Franklin Corners has been racing well and has place claims, while 7. Imprinted resumed with a Coffs Harbour victory and warrants thought again.

How to play it: Velvet Haze EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 3:55PM REMEMBERING MARIE CONNELLY SUPER MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

3. Another Pedrille showed some ability in a couple of trials and a debut fifth at Kembla Grange this time last year when in the care of Ron Quinton. She has since changed stables and comes into this on the back of a close-up second in a Sunshine Coast trial.

Dangers: 1. Back On De Quo has had two trials in preparation for this debut and he is primed to run well. 8. Geoff And Jenny has had one trial leading into this debut and she was close-up in her only trial. 9. Revealer is never far away and must be considered again here.

How to play it: Another Pedrille WIN.

Race 5 - 4:35PM REMEMBERING DARCY EVERINGHAM MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

13. The Young Years has performed well in three of her four starts with three seconds. This race looks well within her reach.

Dangers: 12. Saskatoon Berry is having her first start in this area and can show up without surprising, while 10. Own Tomorrow can improve on her first-up showing. 4. Three Gongs is a first starter for Annabel Neasham and has had a trial to prepare for this debut.

How to play it: The Young Years WIN.

Race 6 - 5:10PM JACARANDA CUP (1100 METRES)

2. Sir Ravanelli looked good when he resumed from a spell with an all the way victory at this track two weeks ago. He has a good overall record and his wet track form is very good. He is the one to beat again here with any luck from the awkward draw.

Dangers: 4. Fortyfive Parklane is coming out of the same race as Sir Ravanelli and he ran well that day. He will find it hard to turn the tables but can be placed. 3. Boncassie has taken on better races than this of late and can show up. 6. Swamp Nation has been racing well and has claims.

How to pay it: Sir Ravanelli WIN.

Race 7 - 5:45PM REMEMBERING KEITH ELLEM BM58 HANDICAP (1175 METRES)

1. Babayka has solid form with three wins and a further six second placings from his 19 starts. He was a winner at Lismore three starts ago and comes into this off a last start second at that track after leading.

Dangers: 9. Playgirl is from a good stable and wasn’t beaten far last time out when midfield at Coffs Harbour. She’s drawn to get a good run here. 5. Moyassar is first-up from a spell here after failing to beat a runner home at this track in July. He can sprint well fresh here. 6. Tread Softly was midfield at Murwillumbah last time out and she is far from the worst here.

How to play it: Babayka WIN.

Race 8 - 6:20PM JACARANDA CROWN - F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

4. Wonderland Star has hit form at her latest two starts with a win at a big price at Ballina being followed by a last start second behind Tauty. She’s drawn to get the run of the race here.

Dangers: 1. Press Lightly has performed well in her four runs back from a spell and she wasn’t beaten far at this track last time out when just behind the placings. 7. Showdra is a last start Eagle Farm placegetter that is worthy of plenty of thought here, while 2. Tauty scored an overdue win at Lismore last time out and is worth considering again.

How to play it: Wonderland Star EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (3) Another Pedrille.
Race 6 (2) Sir Ravanelli.

Best Value:
Race 1 (6) Keyless Go.
