John Schell's Tips For Grafton (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:50PM CRJC AGM 15 NOVEMBER COUNTRY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1120 METRES):

9. Eloheh has only had five starts but has shown some talent with placings in three of them. He was resuming from a spell when finishing third at Ballina last time out when she raced on the speed and held on well.

Dangers: 11. Rinnero is a 20-start maiden but has performed well at his latest couple of starts with placings here and at Armidale. He was costly last time out but must be considered. 7. Talma I Love Her was placed at Coffs Harbour two starts ago then was midfield at the same track last time out. He’s fresh for this and can sprint well. 8. Dizzy Dee is a filly on debut but has looked good in two trials and is not out of this.

How to play it: Eloheh WIN.

Race 2 - 2:25PM JACARANDA PRELUDE (1120 METRES):

3. Sir Ravanelli is a classy performer on his day and won the Mid North Coast Country Championship earlier this year before finishing down the track in the Country Championships at Randwick when he had a few things go wrong. He was a trial winner this campaign before resuming with an acceptable effort at Warwick Farm when midfield. He is unbeaten second-up.

Dangers: 9. Impact Star was placed at Coonamble last time out in a solid effort. 2. Fortyfive Parklane was a strong winner at Lismore at his latest start and a repeat of that would have him in the mix in this. 5. Kibosh has been contesting city grade races of late and will find this an easier assignment.

How to play it: Sir Ravanelli WIN.

Race 3 - 3:05PM VILIFIED NOW AT STUD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (2235 METRES):

7. Seething Chuck has had three runs back from a spell since finishing midfield in a Tuncurry trial behind Sir Ravanelli. He scored a win at Wauchope last time out over 1800m and the step up in distance here looks like it should suit. Seething Chuck should get the run of the race from gate one.

Dangers: 1. Nature Boy has struck winning form of late, having won his last two starts at Armidale when racing on the speed and battling on well. He can be prominent again with a similar performance. 2. Gold Merchant improved sharply when up in distance last time out and should maintain that form over this trip. 8. The Polenitsa has been racing consistently and she can figure in the placings here on her best form.

How to play it: Seething Chuck EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 3:40PM GRAFTONTICKETS.COM.AU MAIDEN HANDICAP (1725 METRES):

2. Red Cobra has been placed in five of his 12 starts and hasn’t been beaten far in his last two starts when finishing second at Wyong and Newcastle. He steps up in distance for this but should get a good run from the inside barrier.

Dangers: 1. Kristithegreat has only had the two starts and followed a debut third at Armidale with a midfield effort here from a wide gate. She’s drawn to get a much better run in this. 4. Tootsie was placed at the Gold Coast when last produced and has place claims again. 8. Game Star has been improving with each run this campaign and can sneak into the money.

How to play it: Red Cobra WIN.

Race 5 - 4:15PM BOOK A CHRISTMAS PARTY MARQUEE MAIDEN PLATE (1425 METRES):

6. The Young Years performed well when finishing second in each of her first two race starts. She then ran a creditable race again last time out when beaten less than 2.5 lengths when seventh of 14 at Taree. She only needs to run up to those efforts to be hard to beat in this.

Dangers: 7. More Elements has been placed in two of his four starts and is resuming from a spell in this. He’s had two trials to prepare for this return and is deserving of plenty of respect. 9. Angry Bet is on debut here and has had two quiet trials to prepare. 5. Temple Of Gold was having her first start for a new stable when fourth at Murwillumbah and is bound to have derived benefit from that.

How to play it: The Young Years WIN.

R6 - 4:50PM LAWRENCE TAVERN CHRISTMAS CUP DAY 26 NOVEMBER C2 HCP (1425 M):

9. Discreet Lady ran fourth at Tuncurry three starts ago and since then she has had two runs in TAB Highway grade at Rosehill and performed well in each of them. Discreet Lady finished seventh and sixth respectively in each of them when not beaten far, and a repeat of them will have her in the thick of things here.

Dangers: 1. Enterprise Lassie was a winner at this track four starts back and then was placed at Coffs Harbour and Ballina before failing to fire last time out. She can be forgiven that effort and given another chance in this. 5. Much More Torque looked good when winning at Taree when last produced and shouldn’t be underestimated. 8. Sparkle Motion hasn’t managed a place in three runs back from a spell but can improve.

How to play it: Discreet Lady WIN.

Race 7 - 5:30PM BEYOND THE VALLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL 16 DECEMBER C1 HCP (1120 M):

8. Adelaide Fever has been placed in each of her three starts since resuming from a spell, being a beaten favourite in the latest two. She has good claims again here with a number of key contenders being scratched.

Dangers: 3. The Rockwell Scale is a handy performer on his day and is sure to improve on his first-up effort at Ipswich. 5. Sir Boo is lightly raced but is a winner at this track and shouldn’t be taken lightly here. 11. Hot Sundae has had one run since joining a new stable and will have derived benefit from that run at the Gold Coast.

How to play it: Adelaide Fever WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (3) Sir Ravanelli.
Race 6 (9) Discreet Lady.

Best Value:
Race 3 (7) Seething Chuck.
