John Schell's Tips For Goulburn (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a Soft 5 rated track.

Race 1 - 2:00PM GOULBURN AUSTRALIA COUNTRY CHAMP. PREVIEW C4 (1300 METRES)

2. Cable Express ($3.10 favourite on TAB) is a handy performer that has three wins and as many placings from just the eight starts. He was a winner in Highway company at Randwick two starts ago and then ran second in another Highway at Newcastle in November. He’s been freshened for this and finished second in a recent Hawkesbury trial in preparation. He should be primed to make a winning return to racing. 1. Lang Park ($7) has been racing well and finished second at Cowra at his latest start. He should be in the thick of things again here if anywhere near his best. 3. Future Fund ($4.80) is a handy performer that has three wins and two seconds to his name from 10 starts and is a winner of his latest two starts at Albury. He’s fresh for this and looked good in a recent trial. 5. Tokyo Ice ($6.50) won last time out at Moruya and only needs to run up to that effort in order to be a leading contender again here.

How to play it: Cable Express WIN.

Race 2 - 2:35PM WEDDINGS @ GDRC MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Ischyros ($6) has shown talent with four placings from just the five starts. He was placed at Moruya last time out and only needs to maintain that form to be hard to hold out here. 5. Yeah Mate ($5) was well in the market on debut at Corowa when on debut and is fresh for this; expect an improvement. 4. Manwari ($3.30) beat home Ischyros last time out and must be respected here. 2. Aegipan ($3 fav) has been paced in each of his latest two starts either side of a spell and can figure again with a repeat of those efforts.

How to play it: Ischyros WIN.

Race 3 - 3:10PM SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS FOODS BM58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

9. Atelier ($2.10 fav) was on debut at Orange and started at big odds when scoring a win in good fashion. This is tougher but she shows the talent to go on with the job. 3. Miss Ghent ($3.10) has been racing well of late with a fourth and a third in her two most recent starts in Highway grade at Randwick. She has the benefit of an apprentice claim here which should assist her chances. 2. Shadow Express ($10) wasn’t beaten far at Nowra last time out and has claims on his best form, while 1. More Mischief ($11) has been thereabouts of late.

How to play it: Atelier WIN.

Race 4 - 3:45PM COUNTRY CHAMPS @ GOULBURN 23/03 MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

3. Darken ($3.80) is on debut after a number of trials and can make an impact here. 9. Aweigh ($3 fav) can improve on her debut effort from the inside gate in this, while 12. Safrano ($4.80) is lightly raced and has the potential to make an improvement in this. 11. Bedda Mia ($5) was safely held when finishing second at Moruya at just her second start but she could figure in this now it is depleted with scratchings.

How to play it: Darken WIN.

Race 5 - 4:20PM GOULBURN MAZDA & ISUZU UTE MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES)

6. School Fees ($4.80) wasn’t disgraced on debut at Kembla Grange when midfield at big odds. The step up in distance here should suit and he can figure here without surprising. 5 Lots To Love ($7) is on debut but has had a solid grounding with four trials to prepare so expect a forward showing. 1. Aranese ($8) ran well when fourth at Orange at his latest start and has place claims. 14. Nambi Ghima ($5) did a good job to finish fourth at Nowra when last produced and she has place claims.

How to play it: School Fees WIN

Race 6 - 4:55PM ICU SECURITY CAMERAS BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Take The Rap ($4.80) looked the goods winning three of his first four starts at Wagga in good style. He contested Highway company at Randwick when last produced and did well to finish fifth. He looks suited here and can bounce back to winning form. 8. She Within ($2.25 fav) has a good record with a win and two minor placings from four starts. She broke her maiden in great style at Moruya last time out and should be in the thick of things again. 1. Camerlengo ($14) was midfield at Cowra last week and was a Sapphire Coast winner before that. 9. Bode Akuna ($5) was a winner at this track three starts ago and ran well when second at Nowra when last produced.

How to play it: Take The Rap WIN.

Race 7 - 5:30PM GOULBURN SOLDIERS CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

9. Jackpot Star ($7.50) debuted with an impressive win at Wagga as favourite and that came on the back of a solid trial. He led throughout in the first start win and has the advantage of gate one in this. Expect him to take up a prominent position and take a power of beating again. 10. Xcessive Force ($2.80 fav) looked good winning on debut at this track in December and she’s had a tick over trial leading into this second start. Has drawn awkwardly here but has the talent to overcome that. 4. Pins And Needles ($18) resumed at Kembla Grange earlier in the month and she should be improved by that hitout. She has a solid record and can get into the placings. 1. Luconi ($4.40) was a Scone winner on debut then ran well in three subsequent starts before being spelled. He resumes here after two good trials and bears close watching.

How to play it: Jackpot Star EACH-WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (2) Cable Express ($3.10 fav)
Race 6 (3) Take The Rap ($4.80)

Best Value:
Race 7 (9) Jackpot Star ($7.50)
