John Schell's Tips For Forbes (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:10PM CLUB SYDNEY COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

4. Maybe Maureen ran home well enough at Narrandera at her latest start when finishing second. She’s been placed in two of her four starts and looks to have enough upside to give this a shake.

Dangers: 12. Exit Fee is on debut here from a good stable and has finished second in a barrier trial leading into this. He should be primed to run well on debut and is worth plenty of thought. 1. Great Southernland has finished fourth in his latest two starts at Dubbo and Warren, and he has strong place claims based on those efforts. 11. Cougars looked good in a trial before debuting at Queanbeyan and losing its rider early in the event. He’s drawn to advantage here in gate one.

How to play it: Maybe Maureen WIN.

Race 2 - 12:50PM POLYAIRE / SEELEY INTERNATIONAL MAIDEN (1600 METRES)

3. Legris was placed at Kembla Grange four starts ago before failing on a wet track at Scone. He was since placed at Cowra and then ran well again at Hawkesbury when a last start fourth. This looks a nice race for him to make an impact in again.

Dangers: 9. Amantaka has finished third in two of her latest three starts including a last start third at Dubbo. She’s drawn well here and can make an impact. 11. Deebuz hasn’t been too far away in her most recent two runs at Dubbo and Warren, and she gets her chance to run into the money against these. 14. Tantalum has been thereabouts of late without figuring in the placings, but she looks to be going well enough to sneak into the minor money.

How to play it: Legris WIN.

Race 3 - 1:30PM MOLLY WALKER 10TH ANNIVERSARY MEMORIAL SUPER MAIDEN (1300M)

2. Listen To Win was on debut at Warren when he started favourite when fighting to the line well to finish fourth. He has a wide alley to contend with here but looks talented and can overcome that with the apprentice allowance.

Dangers: 10. Let’s Go Leo raced on the speed and battled on very strongly to finish a last start second at Warren. He should push forward from a wide gate here and take plenty of running down. 5. Jazz All Night has been placed in three of six starts and she comes into this on the back of a solid last start second at Queanbeyan. 1. Bamboula was close-up when finishing fourth at Dubbo on debut and that run was good enough for him to be rated a good chance of figuring in this.

How to play it: Listen To Win WIN.

Race 4 - 2:10PM FORBES SHIRE COUNCIL AMAZING BEN HALL BULLET BM82 (1200M)

3. Miss Jennifer was a Highway winner at Randwick back in May when she charged to the line. She has performed well in all three city runs since then and only needs to repeat those efforts to win this.

Dangers: 1. Miss Ostend was far from disgraced in city grade at Randwick two starts ago, then ran well when second on the Acton track at Canberra when last produced She is talented and is drawn well with an apprentice allowance to also help. 4. Merc bobs up every now and again and he ran a good race when fourth on the Acton track when last produced. He can give cheek here. 2. Blitzar was a winner three starts ago and has been safely held by a good sprinter in his latest two starts.

How to play it: Miss Jennifer WIN.

Race 5 - 2:50PM CLUB FORBES / CARTLON & UNITED BREWERIES C2 HANDICAP (1100M)

2. More Than A Star resumed from a spell with a strong second at Scone, and followed that up with a midfield effort at Grafton. She has the talent to run well here and should figure prominently again if she can run up to her recent efforts.

Dangers: 8. Hot Jive settled back in the field and hit the line well to score a last start Grafton victory. That was on the back of a Hawkesbury trial win and she looks to be going well enough to be prominent again here. 8. You’re On Mute has won two of her five starts and been placed in another two of them. She looks to have the potential to give this a shake. 4. Shaquila was a Dubbo winner two starts ago and then finished third at Warren at his latest start. He should be in the finish again.

How to play it: More Than A Star WIN.

Race 6 - 3:30PM ROYLANCES TRACTOR REPLACEMENTS BM58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

7. Toongi Bound was midfield in a couple of events at Gunnedah and Dubbo before racing on the speed and fighting on too well to score a last start win at Warren. He’s drawn the rails here and should give plenty of cheek again.

Dangers: 4. Stockholm won a couple on end at Cowra and Warren late last year, and resumed from a spell at Tamworth with a midfield effort. He should strip fitter for that and is set to give this a shake from the good barrier. 5. Charlotting was placed at Muswellbrook before a last start fourth behind Toongi Bound at Warren. She has solid place claims in this. 6. The Mediator did well to score a last start Cowra win and if he runs up to his best then he could figure.

How to play it: Toongi Bound EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:10PM BANKSTOWN SPORTS CLUB FORBES CUP (1600 METRES)

*BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY*

2. One Aye settled back in the field at Randwick last time out and powered home to finish over the top of her rivals to score a strong win. She won this race in 2022 on the way to running seventh in the Big Dance, and she is racing well enough to do the same in this event.

Dangers: 4. All In The Mind is a talented Bjorn Baker trained galloper which resumed from a long spell with a second at Canterbury before finishing down the track there. He since bounced back to form with a dominant Canterbury victory. 7. Don Pedro led them up on the Kensington track when last produced and dropped out late when sixth of seven. His form last campaign was solid enough for him to be rated a winning chance here. 13. Fletchlo hit the line well to score a Mudgee win two starts ago, and followed that up with a last start third at Hawkesbury. He shouldn’t be underestimated.

How to play it: One Aye EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:50PM SHEAD & NICHOLSON / DAIKIN CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Big Shot Legend kept attacking the line to score a strong finishing last start victory at Warren. His previous run at Mudgee was also solid and he can figure in the finish again here on his best form.

Dangers: 8. Tincity was a winner at Wagga on debut, and followed that up with a third at Mudgee at her only other start. She looks to have the ability to give cheek in this. 7. Ishamashi won on debut at Bathurst in February, and since resumed with a third at Dubbo before finishing second at that track when last produced. She should be in the finish of this. 4. Royale Veloute is a last start Hawkesbury winner that warrants plenty of though again in this if she can repeat the latest effort.

How to play it: Big Shot Legend WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (4) Maybe Maureen.
Race 4 (3) Miss Jennifer.

Best Value:
Race 7 (2) One Aye.
