John Schell's Tips For Dubbo (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:56PM DUBBO RHINO LODGE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. Poisen Point hit the line hard at this track last time out when a close second behind Singing Star. That was her third start in a race and she wasn’t disgraced when fifth in each of her other two starts, also at this track. She looks ready to win.

Dangers: 1. Star Intrigue has only had two starts and hasn’t been disgraced in either of them. He should be ready to peak now and is worth plenty of thought. 3. Jeffo has been placed in his latest two starts and is worth including among the main chances with a repeat of those efforts. 10. High Charge has been racing well of late and looms as a place chance in this.

How to play it: Poisen Point WIN.

Race 2 - 1:36PM DUBBO RSL 178 RESTAURANT BM58 HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

5. Rubiland bounced back to winning form when scoring over 2150m at Gunnedah last time out. His form in his latest three starts before that win were solid. And he gets his chance to go on with the job.

Dangers: 4. Shamister is rising in distance for this but was a strong last start winner and is worth plenty of thought again. 1. Weave That Web had been racing consistently before scoring at Gulgong last time out. She can be thereabouts again with a repeat of that. 3. Rufus Winright was placed at this track last time out and can figure again.

How to play it: Rubiland WIN.

Race 3 - 2:16PM DUBBO RSL HEALTH & FITNESS MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

11. Nomorenightshift is a two-year-old gelding on debut here. He had a trial when in the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable last December, and since being moved to trainer Mack Griffith he’s had another trial at Scone in which he was a close-up second. He’s drawn wide in this but looks to have the ability to be able to overcome that.

Dangers: 4. Global Deel is resuming from a long spell and is a recent trial winner at this track. He is primed to run well fresh. 1. A Merry Monarch is on debut and performed well enough in a trial to be rated a place chance here. 2. Air Combat was placed at Kembla Grange last time out and is worth including among the chances again.

How to play it: Nomorenightshift WIN.

Race 4 - 2:51PM DUBBO RSL MOTEL BM82 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Casino Kid was midfield in the Coonamble Cup last September and was spelled following that effort. He had two trials before resuming in the Gunnedah Cup in which he was doing his best work late when finishing fifth. He followed that up with a fifth in the Wingham Cup at Taree and looks ready to peak third-up in this.

Dangers: 2. Sizzle Minizzle is a quality galloper at his best and he can improve sharply on a last start failure at this track. 3. Macchina Volante was a solid winner in easier company last time out and could show up again here if anywhere near his best. 4. Aimpoint was a winner at Tamworth in April and comes into this on the back of a last start seventh at Newcastle. He can improve here.

How to play it: Casino Kid EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:26PM DUBBO RSL CLUB WINTER COUNTRY CLASSIC FINAL BM58 (1300M)

1. Hit The Rim has been racing well of late having finished in the placings at this track when third two starts ago. He followed that up with a second in the Gulgong Cup and apprentice Zoe Hunt sticks with the galloper here having been aboard last start.

Dangers: 8. Zounile was a solid fifth last time out and has the talent to figure in the placings, while 9. Sports Page won well here last time out and can show up again with a repeat of that performance. 6. Allay is a last start winner at this track and should run well again in this.

How to play it: Hit The Rim EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 4:01PM NORTH DUBBO RSL SPORTIES BM66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

5. Aquarter was a winner at Muswellbrook when resuming from a spell, then followed that up with a solid third at Scone last weekend when hitting the line well. All four of his wins have been over 1000m and he should take plenty of holding out.

Dangers: 1. Castlebar Road has won two on end at Wellington and Narromine of late and he has a good overall record. This looks well within his reach again. 3. Crop Duster hit the line well to score at Newcastle two starts ago, and followed that up with a midfield Wyong effort when beaten less than a length. 2. Destiny’s Bounty was in form winning a couple on end at Cowra and Orange before battling on well when third at Mudgee last time out. He warrants thought again.

How to play it: Aquarter WIN.

Race 7 - 4:36PM ELITE SAND & SOIL/EVERGREEN TURF C1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

2. Chico Casino won on debut at Bathurst and has since run well when finishing in the placings at Bathurst and Mudgee. He resumes from a spell here and is poised to make an impact on the strength of that form.

Dangers: 1. Charge Away was a winner at this track last time out and she was placed in three on end before that. She can show up again in this. 8. Ishamashi was a winner at Bathurst on debut and only needs to run up to that to be considered a chance again in this. 4. Always A Saint was a winner here four starts ago and has since finished second at Bathurst and sixth here when favourite each time. This looks within his reach.

How to play it: Chico Casino WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (4) Poisen Point.
Race 3 (11) Nomorenightshift.

Best Value:
Race 5 (1) Hit The Rim.
