John Schell's Tips For Dubbo Cup Day (Sunday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a good track)

Race 1 - 1:17PM CASTLEREAGH HOTEL COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

13. Oneofthesenights was just behind the placings when on debut at Tamworth, then ran well enough again when finishing third at this track at her only other start. Oneofthesenights should push forward from a wide barrier in this.

Dangers: 4. Giving Delight wasn’t disgraced when midfield on debut at Scone and is capable of showing up against these. 8. Sardonyx is on debut and has performed well enough in a barrier trial to warrant consideration, while 5. I’m Too Sexy should not be underestimated.

How to play it: Oneofthesenights WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM OH WHAT A FEELING COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 3 (1600 METRES)

1. Titled Tycoon had been placed in a couple of Muswellbrook runs before stepping up to TAB Highway grade at Rosehill when disappointing after racing on the speed. He since returned to Scone where he hit the line well for a second behind Angelical.

Dangers: 3. Raiding has been racing in career best form with three wins from her last five starts and looked good scoring here last time out. 2. Life Well Lived has won a Bathurst trial since finishing fourth at this track last time out, while 4. Turgenev is far from the worst.

How to play it: Titled Tycoon WIN.

Race 3 - 2:25PM UNBREAKABLE HI-LUX SHOWCASE SUPER MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

1. Joshua is only lightly raced with just the three starts to his name and they have been in city and provincial grade. Joshua finished second at Kembla Grange at his latest start and since then he has been transferred from the Les Bridge stable to Clint Lundholm. Joshua led at Kembla Grange when running his best race.

Dangers: 6. All I Have resumes from a spell in this and his form before the break was solid enough for him to be rated a chance against these. 8. Tayla The Sailor resumed from a spell with a second at Quirindi and warrants respect again here. 2. Infinite Prince has been placed at both runs back from a spell and can figure again here.

How to play it: Joshua WIN.

Race 4 - 3:00PM EVERGREEN TURF VINCENT GORDON FLYING HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

1. Fangela is a winner of six from 15 and will find this easier than his latest effort in city grade. Tyler Schiller takes the ride from barrier two and a bold showing is on the cards.

Dangers: 4. Rylan’s Pick is a last start winner at this track and could be placed with a repeat performance, while 6. Beauchamp has drawn well and should get a nice run in transit. 7. Praline is a knockout chance.

How to play it: Fangela WIN.

Race 5 - 3:30PM LANDCRUISER POWERHOUSE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

7. All Too Sneaky was resuming from a spell at this track two starts ago when she hit the line well to score a dominant victory. She since finished third at Taree when beaten just over half a length. All Too Sneaky again has the advantage of apprentice Anna Roper’s claim.

Dangers: 3. Zap Yah looked good when scoring at Narromine on debut and has drawn to get a good run here. 1. Ammahell is a former Victorian that has been midfield in recent runs and is capable of showing up. 2. Rolled Gold debuted for a new stable with a fifth at Narromine and can figure here with the benefit of improvement.

How to play it: All Too Sneaky WIN.

Race 6 - 4:10PM XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

The Clint Lundholm prepared 1. Skyforger has looked good winning at Warran and Narromine either side of a midfield Moree effort. He has been hitting the line well and will take plenty of holding out again.

Dangers: 4. Pyramid Of Fire was solid when scoring at Mudgee at his latest effort and a repeat of that would have him right in the thick of things here. 5. Sin City Belle was a winner at this track three starts ago and can figure here at her best. 6. Ohwhata Crumpet comes into this on the back of a Narromine placing.

How to play it: Skyforger WIN.

Race 7 - 4:45PM DUBBO CITY TOYOTA & GILGANDRA TOYOTA DUBBO GOLD CUP (1600M)

*BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY*

13. Tags had been racing well in city grade when finishing just behind the placings in a string of runs. He appreciated a drop back to provincial company when charging home to score at Kembla Grange last time out. A solid tempo will suit him in this.

Dangers: Bjorn Baker is sure to play a strong hand here with 4. Amor Victorious coming into this on the back of two city wins. He’ll be hard to run down again. 5. Iknowastar is another Baker runner and he won well at Mudgee last week. 11. Cinque Torri, also in the Baker stable, will get every chance from gate one.

How to play it: Tags EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 5:20PM ARROWFIELD COUNTRY MAGIC CLASS 2 (1100 METRES)

8. Retrieval has had two runs back from a lengthy spell for new trainer Cody Morgan. He will strip fitter for those efforts and should be ready to show his best now.

Dangers: 12. Pliskova has been just behind the placings in two runs since scoring at this track as favourite. She can be in the finish from a good barrier. 5. Ostracised was a good fourth at Randwick in TAB Highway grade behind Derry Grove last time out and is suited here. 3. Midnight Dream was placed as favourite at his latest start and has place claims again.

How to play it: Retrieval EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (1) Fangela.
Race 5 (7) All Too Sneaky.

Best Value:
Race 7 (13) Tags.
