John Schell's Tips For Cowra Cup Day (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:20PM COWRA MOTORS COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Hellinda has only had 9 starts and he has a solid record with three placings to his name. He ran second at Wagga when last produced and looks to have the talent to break through with a win. 3. O’Hellyeah debuted with a second at Albury and then ran fifth at Canberra on the Acton track following that. This looks a nice race. 4. Stromness has been placed in three of five starts and is worth plenty of thought again. 6. Bubble Tea has been placed in four of six starts and can show up again without surprising.

How to play it: Hellinda WIN.

Race 2 - 1:55PM AUSSIE HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE (950 METRES)

5. Ghielmi is gelding on debut that has had two trials and performed well in each of them, winning the first of them at Nowra before a third t Kembla Grange. He’s in a good stable and Nick Heywood takes the ride. 9. Initiate resumes here having debuted with an eighth at Kembla Grange. A recent trial has her primed for this. 10. Sabatina debuted with a midfield Narromine effort and is worth thought here, while 1. Erion hasn’t been far away of late and warrants respect on the back of a last start fourth at Orange.

How to play it: Ghielmi WIN.

Race 3 - 2:30PM BREAKOUT RIVER MEATS COWRA CUP (1700 METRES)

1. Sea Of Flames is a talented performer at best and comes into this on the back of a last start placing in the Gilgandra Cup. He was just behind the placings in a couple of Orange runs before that. This looks a nice race for him to bounce back to winning form. 3. Victory Roll won a couple of city races on end midway through last year and should run well, while 4. Astunner is rarely far away and warrants plenty of thought if he can run up to his best form. 6. Mathrin is talented at best and has a solid record. She can improve on her latest run in this.

How to play it: Sea Of Flames WIN.

Race 4 - 3:05PM WINKLE DRAPER & O.T. MURRAY MEMORIAL SUPER MAIDEN (1375M)

9. Impending Harmony has had plenty of chances but has shown her share of talent in her career. If she can run up to her best she can make an impact here at a good price. 5. Tomcat Flowers has been placed in one of his four starts and has more upside than most of his rivals. 1. Beograd Boy has a lot of placings to his name and can show up in the minor money without surprising, while 3. Goodbye Stranger is consistent and should be prominent.

How to play it: Impending Harmony EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:40PM COWRA BOWLING CLUB BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (950 METRES)

1. Camerlengo won well at the Sapphire Coast when last produced and that followed a string of placings. The apprentice claim will help and he looks the one to beat. 2. Brief Statement has been racing well and is a consistent performer. She looks set to run well again. 6. Ditterich won at Albury two starts ago then was close-up at Orange. 9. Helluva Teen broke through with a last start maiden win at Orange and can show up again here with a repeat.

How to play it: Camerlengo WIN.

Race 6 - 4:20PM LUCKY 88 RACING CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1375 METRES)

1. Your Not The Boss has shown plenty of talent in his career and has ran well when placed in his latest two starts. He has three wins and a further seven minor placings from 21 starts and this race looks suitable for him. 2. Zipitalist is a stablemate of Your Not The Boss and comes into this after a solid resuming run at Goulburn when finishing fifth. 4. Rangatira is a winner at his only start at this track and has been racing well of late with a last start fourth at Nowra when last produced. 5. Grins is an on-speed mare that should have push forward from an awkward alley and she should be in the thick of things.

How to play it: Your Not The Boss WIN.

Race 7 - 5:00PM COWRA LAMB COWRA JAPAN CUP (1200 METRES)

7. Merc is a talented sprinter that can show up again here on his best form. He’s finished fourth and fifth at Moruya in two starts back from a spell and did manage to win this race last year. 10. Letme Entertainyou won well at Wagga last time out and she had been racing well before that with a couple of minor placings to her name. 6. Lang Park was placed at Moruya at his latest start and is not out of this with a repeat. 1. Major Time is a good sprinter when at the top of his game and he can improve on his recent form without surprising.

How to play it: Merc EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 5:40PM MAC PROPERTY COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

9. Pushalot led them up at Wagga last time out and held on well to finish third. She had been racing well before that and looks well placed to run well again in this. 5. Can Do It has been racing well at Orange of late with a couple of recent wins. 6. Hot Extraction resumed with a Wellington victory and can figure again with a repeat of that. 1. Starane was a winner at Orange two starts ago and wasn’t beaten too far there last time out when finishing eighth. He can show up here.

How to play it: Pushalot WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 6 (1) Your Not The Boss.
Race 8 (9) Pushalot.

Best Value:
Race 4 (9) Impending Harmony.
