John Schell's Tips For Cootamundra (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:00PM SOUTH WEST SLOPES CREDIT UNION MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

7. Miss Hades was making her debut at Nowra when she sat on the speed and fought on well to finish fourth behind Panic. She had won a trial in good style before that and she only needs to have maintained that form to be rated the one to beat here.

Dangers: 6. Trifecta Ruby has been placed in her latest two starts, the latest at Corowa, and she can be thereabouts again with a repeat of that performance. 2. Artist is on debut here but looked good in a Canberra trial. 3. Missile Maiden was a beaten favourite on debut at Canberra and while he missed a place, he still ran well enough to be rated a chance here.

How to play it: Miss Hades WIN.

Race 2 - 1:35PM HERITAGE HOTEL COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

3. Craft had two trials this preparation leading into his debut performance and he ran well with a second at Wagga at his only start. Craft hit the line well in that run when coming from midfield and he will be improved by the hitout.

Dangers: 9. Dhyani led them up at Nowra last time out and battled on well enough to finish fourth. She can give them plenty to chase in this. 1. Beograd Boy comes out of the same race as Dhyani when finishing second and has claims again, while 2. Cellar Champ has a few placings to his name and could figure in the minor money without susprising.

How to play it: Craft WIN.

Race 3 - 2:10PM COOTAMUNDRA EX-SERVICES C1 & MAIDEN (1600 METRES)

1: Deep Fury has been placed at his latest three starts at Kembla Grange, Nowra and Goulburn. He will appreciate the step up to 1600m here and a bold showing is expected.

Dangers: 13. Moonrider won well at Moruya last time out and can show up again without surprising. 5. Peak Contributer disappointed last time out but can bounce back to his best in this. 2. Fil has been thereabouts of late and is not out of this.

How to play it: Deep Fury WIN.

Race 4 - 2:45PM AUSTRALIAN MEAT GROUP CLASS 1 (1200 METRES)

5. Ferrari Girl is resuming from a spell here and she finished off her last campaign in winning form when breaking her maiden at Goulburn. She has a wide alley to contend with but should go forward. She will be primed to run a bold race.

Dangers: 3. Gold Tracker has had two runs back from a spell and has finished in the placings in each of them at Wagga. He’s drawn well here and Danny Beasley takes the ride. 2. Asgarda ran well when resuming with a second at Wagga and a repeat of that would give her a chance here. 1. Ferrari Man has disappointed in his latest two starts but is capable of improvement.

How to play it: Ferrari Girl EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:25PM COOTA PRODUCERS BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Saiko was solid when second on the Acton track at Canberra two starts ago, then finished midfield at Moruya as favourite. He can bounce back to form here.

Dangers: 4. Add Milk scored a solid last start win at Corowa when she raced on the speed. 1. Nats Enough was midfield at Wagga last time out and can show enough improvement to be rated a chance here. 6. Mrs Ed is a last start winner that warrants respect again here.

How to play it: Saiko WIN.

Race 6 - 4:00PM CENTRAL HOTEL ANDERSON MEMORIAL BM66 (1100 METRES)

4. Amazing Nicci hit the line well at Goulburn last time out when finishing a close-up third behind Master Joe. She wasn’t too far away in her two runs prior to that and this looks a suitable assignment for her from the good draw.

Dangers: 2. Mathrin looked good winning two on end at Wagga before disappointing at that track last time out. She can show improvement here and warrants consideration. 10. Mosgold was in good form before being spelled, having scored wins at Goulburn and Bathurst. She can sprint well fresh. 3. Zelago is a handy performer on his day and comes into this after a last start Canberra placing.

How to play it: Amazing Nicci WIN.

Race 7 - 4:39PM TWIN HILLS COOTAMUNDRA CUP (1600 METRES)

3. Napoleon Solo is a handy performer on his day and his latest run at Kembla Grange was sound when not beaten far despite finishing seventh. He was a winner at Kembla Grange five starts ago and he has also had a couple of recent placings.

Dangers: 8. Upper House showed a return to form when finishing second to Spitfire at Canberra last time out. He can figure prominently here. 1. Invincible Dash finished sixth at Canterbury last time out and he will find this more suitable. 9. Thistledo was midfield at big odds at Canberra at his latest outing and could show up here without susprising.

How to play it: Napoleon Solo EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 5:14PM THE MICK DONOGHUE MEMORIAL BM58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Magical Slipper has looked good in her latest two starts with a second at Gundagai being followed by a strong win at Corowa. She led throughout last time out and from the good draw here she can repeat the dose.

Dangers: 1. Shame For Fame has been just behind the placings in her last two starts at Wodonga and Leeton. She has a wide alley here, but can be thereabouts with any luck. 3. Tornac is first-up from a spell here and is a two-time winner when fresh. 4. Far Too Hot wasn’t beaten far when midfield at Moruya when resuming. He will be better for that run and is worth some thought here.

How to play it: Magical Slipper WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 6 (4) Amazing Nicci.
Race 8 (2) Magical Slipper.

Best Value:
Race 4 (5) Ferrari Girl.
