John Schell's Tips For Coonamble (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 12:55PM GILGANDRA TOYOTA/INLAND PETROLEUM MAIDEN (1400M)

5. Wolf Club was resuming from a spell when starting favourite at Mudgee and finishing fourth when not beaten too far last month. He is lightly raced and has been placed in two of his six starts. He only needs to overcome an awkward alley in order to break through here. 7. Tainui has only had two starts and has finished second in each of them, the latest at Quirindi when leading. He’s on the up and this looks a suitable race. 10. Lagoon is having he first run for the new stable and she’s drawn well with Zac Lloyd taking the ride. 11. Miss Adamas has had plenty of chances but has a good place record and can get into the minor money with surprising.

How to play it: Wolf Club WIN.

Race 2 - 1:35PM WRA RURAL ROUNDUP CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

3. Trumpty Dumpty ran a good race when finishing third at Dubbo two starts ago, then was down the track at Warren. He has shown some talent in his career and can bounce back here. 14. Miss Clamorosa debuted for the new stable with a strong win at Dubbo and can go on with the job from the good gate. 13. Casino Diva has been racing well and comes into this after a last start Orange win. 10. Wotastatement has been racing well of late and has place claims.

How to play it: Trumpty Dumpty EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 2:10PM GERONIMO/REGIONAL/AGSPRAY/PARAGON/WOODHAMS BM66 (1600M)

7. Mrs Bull has been racing well and followed a string of placings with a victory at Dubbo two starts ago. She was midfield at Dubbo when last produced and should be prominent again. 3. Mazita was back in winning form when scoring at Armidale at his latest outing and he’s shown enough ability in his career to be rated a chance in this. 4. To Be Frank justified favouritism to score at Quirindi last time out and should be in the finish again. 6. Waitapu should be ready to peak here third-up from a break.

How to play it: Mrs Bull EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 2:45PM DAD&DAVE/ELITE/SOUTHERNX/EVERGREEN SUPER MAIDEN (1100M)

5. Rail Trail was resuming from a spell for a new stable when a close-up second at Scone earlier this month. There was a lot to like about that performance and with the benefit of improvement he looks the one to beat. 6. Stern Reminder is on debut and has looked good enough in a couple of recent trials to be rated a winning chance. 12. Tiye is having her first run for Clint Lundholm and her Brisbane form was solid enough. 10. Silver Chair has been placed in both starts and has the talent to figure again.

How to play it: Rail Trail WIN.

Race 5 - 3:25PM CONSETH/TERMINUS/BATTERLINE/SWANNY'S BM58 HANDICAP (1400M)

3. Red Cobra is resuming from a spell and wasn’t disgraced when fifth his latest two starts at Wyong before the break. He’s drawn wide but should be hitting the line well and is well worth including among the main chances. 5. Nipper Bee scored at Gunnedah two starts ago then wasn’t beaten too far at Walcha when last produced. 6. Prince Of Sepang has been thereabouts of late and could get into the placings. 10. Stillwell scored an upset win at Inverell two runs back and isn’t the worst.

How to play it: Red Cobra EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:45PM EVERGREEN TURF WRA COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS (1400 METRES)

1. Gallant Star is resuming from a spell here and has a distinct class advantage on his rivals. He ran second in this race last year before finishing second in the $1 million final at Randwick. He then won at Dubbo in the spring before following a sixth in The Kosciuszko with a runaway victory in the Barn Dance at Randwick. He has had two trials in preparation for this and has won each of them. 13. Poisen Point is a stablemate of Gallant Star and is building a handy record having won two of her last three starts. 2. Stockholm is talented on his day and is capable of improving on his last start effort, while 3. Pants On Fire hasn’t raced since tackling this event last year and has had two recent trials.

How to play it: Gallant Star & Poisen Point QUINELLA.

Race 8 - 5:25PM NUTRIEN AG SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Outta De Lady resumed from a spell and did the job well to score when leading at Warren. He’s drawn well here and should take plenty of running down again. 7. Pyromania also won at Warren when last produced and can be in the finish again, while 11. Scorpius ran second to Pyromania in that event and can be placed again.

How to play it: Outta De Lady WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (5) Rail Trail.
Race 8 (3) Outta De Lady.

Race 6 (3) Red Cobra.
