John Schell's Tips For Coonabarabran (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:00PM COONABARABRAN BAKERY & PURSEHOUSE RURAL MAIDEN (1200M)

5. Order Of Glory has had three starts since joining a new stable from Victoria and has been place in all three. She has finished third twice at Gunnedah and Armidale, and second at Inverell. If she runs up to those efforts in this then she can figure prominently.

Dangers: 2. Sports Page was on debut when fifth at Coonamble in what was a solid effort. She’s drawn wide here but could show up. 1. A Tent Hut is having his first start and comes into this on the back of an Armidale trial. 9. Break Over has been placed in five of 15 starts and has drawn well here.

How to play it: Order Of Glory EACH WAY.

Race 2 - 1:35PM IMPERIAL HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE (900 METRES)

1. Deion is on debut here for the Brett Robb stable and has had one trial at Narromine in which he finished second. He has the advantage of barrier one in this event.

Dangers: 14. Tabata Set is having her first start for the Luke Pepper stable having formerly been in the Maher and Eustace camp. She is a sharp improver in this grade. 5. Rockin’ Edition debuted with a sound second at Dubbo and that form should hold up here, while 10. Samita is first-up from a spell and can sprint well fresh.

How to play it: Deion WIN.

Race 3 - 2:10PM NORTH WEST EQUESTRIAN EXPO CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Titled Tycoon is an ultra-consistent performer which has been placed in each of his latest four starts, the latest at Coonamble. He has drawn ideally here in gate three and apprentice Chelsea Hillier’s two-kilogram allowance will help.

Dangers: 2. Fact Finder raced on the speed and dropped out when resuming at Scone but his form before being spelled was good enough for him to be considered a chance here. 3. Skyforger beat Titled Tycoon home last time out but has a wide draw here. 4. Bill Peyto comes out of the same race as Titled Tycoon and Skyforger and has the benefit of gate one.

How to play it: Titled Tycoon WIN.

Race 4 - 2:45PM M. HAWKINS ELECT. & EVANS EQUEST. MAX HAWKINS MEM. C1 (1400M)

12. Antarctic Pride was back from a short let-up when racing on the speed to score at Gunnedah last time out. She has drawn barrier one in this and should be prominent throughout again.

Dangers: 2. Shubick has solid form with a second at Dubbo being followed by fourth placings at Dubbo and Orange. He should get a good run here from the gate. 4. Chookster wasn’t far away at Coonamble last time out and was placed at Dubbo before that. 3. Foxy Baroness is a stablemate of Chookster that wasn’t far away when midfield at Dubbo last time and can be placed here without surprising.

How to play it: Antarctic Pride EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:25PM BARRONS TYRE & MECHANICAL CUP DAY SPRINT (1100 METRES)

1. Ezekeil is a classy performer on his day which resumed from a spell with a far from disgraced effort in city grade at Rosehill. Prior to the break Ezekeil had won two in a row including the Magic Millions Country Cup, before finishing fourth in the Hunter & North West Country Championships at Tamworth.

Dangers: 4. Morgenstern is resuming from a spell here and while he hasn’t won for a while, his form hasn’t been too bad. He could show up here without surprising. 2. Moetta is first-up in this and has a solid fresh record. 5. Beauchamp ran well when placed at Coonamble last time out and can figure again in this.

How to play it: Ezekeil WIN.

Race 6 - 4:00PM FUTURITY PASTORAL BARADINE CUP - BM66 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. Simply Xtravagant is racing in career best form having won her past three starts in succession. She was strong on the line to score at Coonamble last time out, and is an on-pace runner that has drawn well here and will take plenty of running down again.

Dangers: 1. Amicis Curiae has had three starts back from a spell and has been placed at Scone and Hawkesbury either side of a midfield effort at Bathurst in strong grade. He looms as the hardest to beat here. 7. Calgary King won a couple on end at Moree and Armidale before finishing third at Toowoomba. He has the talent to show up here. 9. Obey ran home well at Dubbo last time out and a bold showing is on the cards here.

How to play it: Simply Xtravagant WIN.

Race 7 - 4:39PM COONABARABRAN BOWLING CLUB COONABARABRAN CUP (1600 METRES)

1. Knife’s Edge is out to make it successive wins in the Coonabarabran Cup having won it last year with 54 kilograms. While he is up to 61 kgs in this, Knife’s Edge has solid form including placings at Rosehill and Dubbo at his latest two starts, and Aaron Bullock being aboard is a positive.

Dangers: Parkes Cup winner 2. Osman was never in the hunt when resuming at Bathurst then showed sharp improvement when second at Hawkesbury last time out. He can race in a prominent position from gate two here over the 1600m and is worth plenty of thought. 3. Scorched Land has been thereabouts of late without winning and should give some cheek here. 8. Watch Me Rumble ran a creditable fourth in the Coonamble Cup and a repeat of that would have in the finish of this.

How to play it: Knife’s Edge WIN.

Race 8 - 5:14PM BRAD EDWARDS AIR CONDITIONING C2 PLATE (1200 METRES)

10. Smart And Dapper ran a great race at Coonamble last time out when only claimed in the last couple of strides when finishing second. He has drawn to get the run of the race.

Dangers: 1. Dirty Merchant has a good overall record and was resuming from a spell when third behind Pyramid Of Fire at Tamworth. He will strip fitter for that run and should figure in the finish again here. 2. Exonumia also has form around Pyramid Of Fire and can be expected to run well in this.

How to play it: Smart And Dapper EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (1) Titled Tycoon.
Race 5 (1) Ezekeil.

Best Value:
Race 4 (12) Antarctic Pride.
