John Schell's Tips For Coffs Harbour (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:30PM INSURANCE ADVISERNET 2&3YO MAIDEN PLATE (800 METRES)

3. Wolf Dancer had two starts back in September and performed well enough in each of them when finishing a debut fifth before a third, with both being at this track. Wolf Dancer resumes here and although drawn awkwardly he has the talent to overcome that.

Dangers: 2. Tsunoda missed a place as an odds-on favourite at Kilcoy on debut before finishing third at this track last time out. He was safely held in that event but could run into the money again here. 13. Boambee Beach is resuming from a spell but was placed on debut earlier in the year and is set to run well fresh. 1. Extra Manners has won a trial leading into this debut and warrants some thought.

How to play it: Wolf Dancer WIN.

Race 2 - 2:05PM THE GLENN FAMILY 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

10. Give It A Nudge is having her first run for a new stable here and while she is yet to figure in the placings from five starts, she has shown enough against better opposition than she meets in this. Give It A Nudge has drawn well enough in this and is suited by the apprentice allowance.

Dangers: 2. La Cache A Vin finished second in a couple of runs at Taree and this track midway through the year then was spelled after finishing fourth here. He resumes in this and can make an impact. 5. Golden Dubai was placed here on debut then was midfield at the Sunshine Coast before finishing fourth here last time out. He’s drawn well in this and is worth thought. 8. Fighting Daughter resumes here for a new stable and bears close watching.

How to play it: Give It A Nudge EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 2:40PM O'BRIEN PLUMBING & RELINING COFFS HARBOUR NORTH MDN (1300M)

4. Daimyo has finished in the placings in three of his 12 starts and they have been in three of his most recent four starts. Daimyo has been beaten less than a length when finishing second at Grafton, Ballina and Murwillumbah, and this race looks suitable.

Dangers: 13. Oojah Capow hit the line well to finish third at this track at his latest start and his previous form was also solid without winning. He gets another chance to run well here. 2. Great Southernland has finished second in each of his two starts at this track since resuming from a spell. He is knocking on the door for a win and warrants respect. 3. Rox’N’Rol has been placed in five of six starts and should be thereabouts again.

How to play it: Daimyo WIN.

Race 4 - 3:15PM J&K JARVIS RACING PINK SILKS - F&M BM58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

5. La Quinta Bella has figured in the placings in six of her nine starts with a win and five minor placings to her name. She’s had three runs back from a long spell and finished in the placings in each of them. La Quinta Donna has drawn gate one in this and has the benefit of a two-kilogram apprentice claim.

Dangers: 1. Kalahari Heart is a four-time winner from 19 starts and her best recent run was a second at Gunnedah two starts ago. She’s drawn well in this and looks a major player. 3. The Coast Hanger was a winner at this track back in September then went to Rosehill and finished second in a Highway. She’s fresh for this and should run well. 10. Serenata has won two of her last three starts at Bowraville and is worth plenty of thought again here.

How to play it: La Quinta Bella WIN.

Race 5 - 3:50PM KEY COMMUNITY GROUP CG&E BM58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

8. Showman has shown plenty of talent in his career having won twice from nine starts. He won at Murwillumbah and Lismore earlier this year and is returning from a spell here. Showman has had two trials at Ballina in preparation for this and improved on the initial trial when scoring a win in the latest of them.

Dangers: 2. Mr Tabasco ran well at this track two starts ago when finishing second at this track then had a trial before finishing just under half a length from the winner when midfield at this track. 5. Narnia has been placed in three of his past four starts and went down in a close finish last time out. 9. Boulanger comes into this on the back of a last start win at Murwillumbah when resuming and he can go on with the job here.

How to play it: Showman EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 4:30PM THE BAYRANGE GROUP WAYNE GLENN PINK SILKS CUP (1200 METRES)

3. Boncassie has finished midfield in each of her latest two starts at Taree and Grafton and she has a good overall record. She should figure prominently against these.

Dangers: 4. Ljungberg was a winner at Taree before failing in the Port Macquarie Cup. He resumes from a spell here and can run well fresh. 12. October Revolution broke through again to score at Taree at his latest start and is worth plenty of thought again. 11. Auzstar finished fourth at Taree when resuming from a spell and strips fitter for that assignment.

How to play it: Boncassie WIN.

Race 7 - 5:10PM KOMATSU COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Ausbred Cooee had his first three runs back from a spell and this track and finished third in the latest of them. He then took on Highway company at Randwick when finishing just over five lengths from the winner when finishing 13th. This race looks more suitable.

Dangers: 1. Ashim did the job well to score at this track two starts ago then was close-up when fourth here at his latest outing. He is racing well enough to give this a shake. 5. Yukanuma failed to beat a runner home at Doomben at his latest start but will find this easier. 9. Ponte Vecchio led throughout to score at this track when last produced. Both his career wins have been at this track and he is deserving of respect again.

How to play it: Ausbred Cooee EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (4) Daimyo.
Race 5 (8) Showman.

Best Value:
Race 7 (3) Ausbred Cooee.
