John Schell's Tips For Bathurst (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 1:00PM MBA WEALTH SOLUTIONS TULLOCH CUP C1 HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

2. Noble Tess contested much tougher grade races as a three-year-old filly and has had two runs since resuming from a spell. She’s been behind the placings in each of them at Kembla Grange and should be ready to hit peak form now.

Dangers: 1. No Second Thoughts battled on well when finishing fourth at Mudgee last weekend. She has a great record with a win and five more placings to her name and warrants respect. 3. Spanish Fighter finished third at Newcastle last time out and has shown enough talent to make an impact here. 8. Pretty Please has been placed in two of five starts and should give plenty of cheek here.

How to play it: Noble Tess WIN.

Race 2 - 1:35PM PRESS POWER RISING PRINCE CUP MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

7. Broadway Follies is a filly on debut, and she’s had two trials in preparation. She finished second in the first of them at Hawkesbury, then ran third in a Rosehill heat. That form looks solid.

Dangers: 1. Phobos debuted earlier in the year with a midfield effort at Gosford, then resumed from a spell with a fourth on the Acton track at Canberra. That form looks good for this event. 6. Washik ran home well when just behind the placings last time out and looms as a chance again here. 10. Tiffy performed well in a trial leading into this and warrants respect.

How to play it: Broadway Follies WIN.

Race 3 - 2:10PM ELDERS LIVESTOCK BATHURST HUGH BOWMAN MAIDEN (1400 METRES)

3. Let’s Go Leo has been racing well with a string of five minor placings from his latest five starts. He’s finished fourth in the latest four runs and hit the line well at Tamworth last time out. He’s drawn wide here but should be hitting the line hard again.

Dangers: 4. Railway Avenue has been placed in three of his six starts. He wasn’t beaten far at Wellington last time out and has the talent to be a factor. 2. Lanwar has been midfield in his latest two runs and that form looks solid for a race like this. 1. A Merry Monarch ran second at this track two starts ago. He failed at Dubbo last time out but can improve here.

How to play it: Let’s Go Leo WIN.

Race 4 - 2:50PM GRAINFORCE "THE BARB" IDA TRAILL CUP SUPER MAIDEN (1100M)

5. Ellipsis is making her debut here and has performed well in each of her trials. She wasn’t beaten far when midfield in the latest of them and should show up here.

Dangers: 2. Check Your Six has been placed in four of nine starts and this looks well within his reach. 3. Damascus Calling is on debut and could show up without surprising. 6. Itszarbaby resumed from a spell with a solid fourth at Hawkesbury and can figure here with a repeat of that effort.

How to play it: Ellipsis WIN.

Race 5 - 3:25PM AGRIWEST GOLD CIRCLE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

2. News Bound created a big impression when scoring a runaway win at Tamworth on debut in January. She resumes here on the back of a good trial and is drawn to get a good run.

Dangers: 3. Green Pineapple was a winner at this track when resuming from a spell and has since finished midfield at Wellington. He has the talent to give this a shake. 9. Always A Saint has a win and two placings to his name from 10 starts. He could sneak into the placings here without surprising. 7. Mrs Bull is resuming from a spell and is drawn wide but could run home into the placings.

How to play it: News Bound WIN.

Race 6 - 4:00PM JEREMY BOOTH CONSTRUCTIONS BILL ASPROS CUP BM58 (1200 METRES)

11. Exotic Dancer was a winner on debut on the Acton track at Canberra, then followed that up with a fourth at Kembla Grange. She has talent and is drawn to get the run of the race here.

Dangers: 5. Bianco Nero was midfield at Kembla Grange at her latest start. She has had plenty of chances but this looks to be well within her reach. 1. Bottom Bar is a three-time winner from 25 starts and comes into this on the back of a last start third at Tamworth. 2. Laffing Waters has a good record and was midfield at Wellington last time out. She should run well again here.

How to play it: Exotic Dancer WIN.

Race 7 - 4:34PM ELDERS EMMS MOONEY BATHURST CUP (1800 METRES)

* BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY*

4. Belleistic Kids fought hard to the line to finish second behind Jamberoo on the Kensington track three starts ago, then was midfield in the Goulburn Cup before hitting the line well to score a last start Canberra win. The step up in distance should suit and Jean Van Overmeire sticks with him.

Dangers: 2. Jamberoo showed improvement when going to the front and fighting on too well to score a win on the Kensington track last time out. That form looks solid for a race like this. 1. Too Much Caviar ran well to score at Rosehill at his latest start and should run well again here with a repeat of that. 3. Money From The Sky was just behind the placings at his latest start, and is not out of this.

How to play it: Belleistic Kids EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 5:15PM PANORAMA MOTEL THE PANORAMA (1300 METRES)

1. Compelling Truth is a bold front runner when at his best and is drawn well enough here in gate four. He has a big weight but that is offset by an apprentice allowance. Expect him to go forward and take a power of beating as he heads towards The Kosciuszko.

Dangers: 3. Zouatica hasn’t raced since the Wagga Cup earlier in the year. He’s got a great record and can sprint well fresh. 2. Peyton Place has a good record and should be primed to run well her fresh from a spell. 5. Smooth Esprit resumes from a spell here having been midfield at Scone and Dubbo at his latest two starts before being the break.

How to play it: Compelling Truth WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (2) Noble Tess.
Race 5 (2) News Bound.

Best Value:
Race 7 (4) Belleistic Kids.
