John Schell's Tips For Bathurst Cup Day (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 1:15PM JB CONSTRUCTIONS HUGH BOWMAN MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

9. Pozesana has had eight starts in her career but she seems to be hitting her straps recently, with her only two placings coming at her past two starts. She finished second at Forbes before running third at this track last time out. She’s been racing on the speed of late, but will need to overcome a wide gate here.

Dangers: 5. Casual Mood has performed well in both runs and can be prominent again, while 4. Sensei Jackie has speed and can be prominent. 6. Kirameki can also show up in the placings.

How to play it: Pozesana WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM ELDERS INSURANCE GOLD CIRCLE CUP CLASS 1 (1100 METRES)

1. Bellucci Bella is resuming from a spell here but showed ability in her initial campaign with a win and a second from just three starts. She was a winner on a heavy track at Wellington before heading for a break.

Dangers: 2. Timmy has raced well in his career too date and should run well again here on his best form. 3. Xeiby is an improver and should run well here while 5. Illusive Star has talent and can be thereabouts.

How to play it: Bellucci Bella WIN.

Race 3 - 2:25PM MBA WEALTH SOLUTIONS "THE BARB" IDA TRAILL CUP (1100M)

6. Shalmum had two trials before debuting at Mudgee and giving a good sight when second behind Dylan’s Lad. Shalmum showed speed to lead the Mudgee event and from an ideal gate in this she should adopt similar tactics.

Dangers: 2. Firealarm is on debut for the Gary Portelli stable and he has looked good in a trial. 1. Flying Molly has also performed well in a trial and should go well here. 8. Just Joan is on the up and can show up here without surprising.

How to play it: Shalmum WIN.

Race 4 - 3:00PM AGRIWEST TULLOCH CUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

4. Threw was a solid winner two starts ago at Queanbeyan when battling on well after making a long run. He hit the line well again last time out at Nowra and can be prominent again with a repeat performance.

Dangers: 5. Interventionist was a good winner at Dubbo last time out and warrants respect again while 6. Tokyo Run is also worth though, having been placed at his last two starts. 2. Bonus Tempus was a winner at Wyong two starts ago and can figure if he runs up to that again.

How to play it: Threw EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:40PM GRAINFORCE BILL ASPROS CUP BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Feirme Prince won as favourite at Dubbo three starts back before following a fourth at that track with a last start second there. He hit the line powerfully at his latest run and wasn’t beaten far. There should be a solid speed here which will assist his claims.

Dangers: 8. Time Bandit has performed well in both runs to date with a debut win and a second last lime out. Another forward showing is on the cards. 1. Bowie Of Dubai is racing well enough to be rated a chance here while 5. Pyromania is consistent and should be respected again.

How to play it: Feirme Prince EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 4:15PM METALAND RISING PRINCE CUP MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

13. Starboard looked good in two trials before debuting with a second at Kembla Grange in what was a promising performance. He hit the line well to be second to Rhythm Of Love, and will be better for the run.

Dangers: 11. Hard Pick has drawn wide but can run well with any luck at all while 7. Burgundy Bubbles is resuming from a spell and has good claims. 8. Flying Bat is capable of showing up at best.

How to play it: Starboard WIN.

Race 7 - 4:50PM ELDERS EMMS MOONEY DAFFODIL COTTAGE BATHURST CUP (1800M)

*BIG DANCE ELIGIBILITY *

7. Hollywood Hero has been racing in good form with a couple of city placings being followed by a fast finishing fourth in the Dubbo Cup last time out when coming from a long way back in the field from a wide gate. He’s drawn much better this time and will race closer.

Dangers: 1. Super Pursuit is a member of the Richard Collett stable and has been racing well of late. Jason Collett takes the ride here and despite the big weight he can figure prominently. 4. Elettrica is a consistent performer and must be respected again here.

How to play it: Hollywood Hero WIN.

Race 8 - 5:25PM PANORAMA HOTEL THE PANORAMA (1300 METRES)

8. Cliff House is a consistent performer with four wins and as many placings from his eight starts. He’s resuming from a spell here and is a recent trial winner. Expect a bold showing fresh.

Dangers: 5. Molly Nails has run well in better races than this in her career and she can show up here without surprising. 10. Sister Moon has drawn is the inside gate and should give plenty of cheek if she runs up to her best form. 6. Wizard Of Oz has been racing well and has claims.

How to play it: Cliff House WIN.

Best bets:
Race 6 (13) Starboard.
Race 8 (8) Cliff House.

Best Value:
Race 5 (3) Feirme Prince.
