John Schell's Tips For Armidale (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:41PM BUNDARRA CUP NOW AT ARMIDALE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. Reasonable Doubt was down the track at Tamworth on debut but then showed improvement when running home well to finish a close-up third at Tamworth. She since settled back in the field and didn’t run on in another Tamworth start, but this looks to be an easier assignment. She can show a sharp improvement.

Dangers: 2. Libby is on debut here and despite failing to beat a runner home in her only trial, she could show the improvement necessary to make an impact. 7. Sellinya was placed at Coffs Harbour last time out and has the ability to make an impact again. 4. Dipierdomenico has been placed in two of eight starts and another forward showing here would not surprise.

How to play it: Reasonable Doubt WIN.

Race 2 - 2:16PM BUNDARRA CUP 5TH OCTOBER SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

10. Point Loma debuted with a last placing at Kembla Grange when down the track and was spelled following that. He had two trials leading into his resuming run and that resulted in a fourth placing at Mudgee when he ran home solidly enough. He’s drawn to advantage in this event.

Dangers: 1. Charlie Bali has two placings to his name from 10 starts and comes into this on the back of a last start third at Tamworth. He wasn’t beaten far in that event and warrants respect here. 2. Holy Song was midfield at Moree when last produced and can figure in the placings with a repeat of that. 7. Meddlesome has been placed in each of her two starts and is not out of this. She should give cheek from on pace.

How to play it: Point Loma WIN.

Race 3 - 2:51PM WHITEBULL HOTEL CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1900 METRES)

9. Fantastic Beast failed to figure in the placings in the first five starts of his career but wasn’t disgraced in any of them. He managed to make his way into the placings for the first time when finishing third at Moree when last produced when running home well. The step up in distance suits.

Dangers: 3. Mimessi won a maiden at Moree in June. He’s since been just behind the placings and hasn’t been disgraced in any of those runs. He should be primed to run well here. 1. Eastowin was placed at Graftron last time out. He’s had plenty of chances but is not out of this. 5. Deshorente has the talent to figure in the placings here if she runs up to her best form.

How to play it: Fantastic Beast WIN.

Race 4 - 3:30PM ARMIDALEJOCKEY.CLUB COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

1. Carbrook has been placed in five of his eight starts and ran well when a last start third at Muswellbrook. He’s drawn awkwardly but has a bit of upside and should figure prominently.

Dangers: 11. Isadami wasn’t beaten too far last time out and isn’t out of this. 2. Rembroy wasn’t beaten far at Tamworth last time out despite being out of the placings. He could show up here without surprising. 3. Yanabah had shown talent in trials before failing on debut. An improvement is expected despite the wide barrier.

How to play it: Carbrook WIN.

Race 5 - 4:09PM ANAIWAN BROTHERS CIVIL TRAINING CLASS 2 (1400 METRES)

4. Suit Day is a locally trained galloper that was placed in each of his latest two starts before being spelled. He resumed from the spell at Moree earlier in the month and broke his maiden at his fifth race start. He should take beating again.

Dangers: 2. Arrabbiata had been racing well before being spelled and won a race at this track. She’s been placed in 50 per cent of her starts and warrants respect again here. 1. Lease has found a new vein of form of late. He won at Newcastle three starts ago and wasn’t disgraced at Wyong last time out. 5. Chesteray has a solid record and if he runs up to his best he should take a power of beating here.

How to play it: Suit Day EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 4:47PM LDO GROUP TRAINING CUP BM58 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

14. Lockdown Lad has shown plenty of talent in his career and has finished in the placings seven times before breaking his maiden with a victory at Tamworth back in May and then being spelled. He led and proved far too good in that evet, and while this is obviously tougher, he comes into it on the back of a close-up second in a Scone trial.

Dangers: 8. Flying Miracle was a winner at Gunnedah in January He resumed with a down the track effort at Tamworth but should strip fitter for this. 3. Dis Is Heaven has a solid record and only needs to run up to his best to be a top chance here. 2. Zoom Outcome has a good winning record and is not out of this.

How to play it: Lockdown Lad WIN.

Race 7 - 5:21PM ETB INDUSTRIES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. Magic Flyer was in form when winning a couple on end at Dubbo and Tamworth in September of last year and January. His form since resuming from a spell has been sound with a third and a fourth at Tamworth being followed by a last start second at Moree. He’s drawn well and the apprentice claim should assist his cause.

Dangers: 7. Hit Song has won two of his latest four starts and looks to have the ability to be able to give this a shake. 5. Calamity Fox won at Moree two starts ago. He was down the track last time out but can improve here. 3. Waitapu was safely held at Scone when last produced. She is against easier opposition here and is worth including among the main chances.

How to play: Magic Flyer WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (9) Fantastic Beast.
Race 6 (14) Lockdown Lad.

Best Value:
Race 5 (4) Suit Day.
