Wauchope Jockey Club is poised to hold its best home meeting to celebrate more than 50 years of the running of its iconic $11,000 Hasting Co-Op Woop Woop Cup at its Beechwood Road course, Wauchope, on Boxing Day (26th December).
The finishing touches to the track and environs have been completed to enable comfortable racing for the expected big crowd.

Club president, Greg Partridge, said the fascination luring patrons to the Wauchope track was not only the running of the long-standing Woop Woop Cup over 1800m but the social occasion in a true country setting.
“Many people come home to Wauchope and other places for Christmas and they like to catch up with friends, relatives and mates in a social environment at the track,” he said.
“It is a good day to relax, have a punt, and enjoy the day.”
Partridge said the club for the first time is staging a V.I.P lounge where patrons for a $100 package had entry to the track, a racebook, free drinks, food and reserved seating [all inquiries to Greg on 0447 227024], the new venture receiving a good response so far.
There will be a couple of marquees and seating under cover in the betting ring section.
“The Fashions On The Field for female and male patrons was so popular last year that it is on again. The track is in terrific order thanks to irrigation from our dam and due to tireless work done by Grant Prosser.”
Not only is the cup a prized possession for the winning owner, but trophies are also awarded to the trainer, jockey and a rug for the triumphant galloper.
Club secretary, Debbie Prosser, said the club had excellent backing from local businesses such as Hastings Co-Op, Wauchope Stock & Estate Agent, M & S Print, Elders Wauchope, Bing Maxwell Inland 4 WD, Wauchope Colonial Florist, Aromatics and the Co-Op Department Store.
She said a bus will deliver patrons to and from the course starting at the bus terminal in Port Macquarie at 11am and the Wauchope RSL Club at 11.30am.
Nominations for the five-race card close on Thursday and acceptances will be known next Monday (23rd December).
